Schwarzenegger’s Daily Jet Commute Receiving Flak
ecorazzi ^ | March 10, 2008 | ecorazzi

Posted on 07/13/2008 3:09:19 PM PDT by Brilliant

Last March, we received word that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was offsetting his jet travel demands by purchasing green credits. The cost of Schwarzenegger’s travel was to be “annually invested” in sustainable forest management projects. At that time, it was reported that the Governor was flying twice-weekly from his office in Sacramento, CA to his mansion in Brentwood, CA. We firmly believed then that the offsetting was, at best, a band-aid for a habit that in one hour would do more damage to the environment than a small car could inflict over the course of one year.

Now, the LA Times is reporting that Schwarzenegger’s habit has increased to commuting nearly every day by private jet — a move that regardless of offsetting, is widely considered as damaging to a “champion of environmental issues” and cover-boy for various green magazine issues. From the article,

Administration officials say Schwarzenegger is well aware of this and makes amends by purchasing pollution credits for the carbon dioxide his jet releases. The credits fund efforts worldwide to reduce greenhouse gases, such as projects that harness energy from wind, landfill gas and farm waste, although they don’t eliminate the pollution from Schwarzenegger’s plane. Flying the Gulfstream and other jets the governor uses costs as much as $10,000 an hour. Some conservationists say Schwarzenegger is essentially attempting to buy a clean conscience with the carbon offsets, which cost about $43 an hour.

In defense, Schwarzenegger says his family needs him and such daily trips warrant the commute. While I can understand the personal importance of such an action, as a representative of the people — and a role-model for sustainable initiatives — Arnold should suck it up and simply crash in Sacramento for a bit. Commuting daily in a private jet erodes the pedestal of anyone championing green living and warning against the dangers of climate change. Offsetting is simply not enough. As we’ve said before, you have to “be the change” in this shift to make an impression.

It is if you're a hypocritical swine. Again I point out that the President's personal residence (his only one) in Crawford is completely off the grid, completely "sustainable." While the eco-warriors who attack him (Arnold and Al Gore) are enormous carbon hogs. It's a disgrace.

What’s absurd is the whack jobs that take this stuff seriously. There is no global warming, which is why the new orwellian phrase is “climate change”.

If he wants to commute in a 747 and can pay for it, good.

Ughh gee Ahhhrnold--- if we could drill for more oil off the Ca. coasts our fuel suppy could support your daily round trip flights to Sacto. Except the envirowackos wouldn't be happy unless you could clone Hillary's broomstick and fly carbon credit free!.

PS. BTW... all those forest fires going on in Ca. probably spew more smoke pollutants in the air per day than all the planes and autos in the USA combined!

Perhaps, if it wasn't for the fact that he wishes to impose an austere lifestyle on the rest of us, because he himself buys the into the hoax. On top of that, while consuming hundred and hundreds of gallons of jet fuel, he considers the coat line off his state to precious to get any oil for the rest of us.

There’s a reason for the 2nd Amendment.....

Sort of. The right kind of hypocrisy is celebrated. Lectures from Hillary about family values and marriage, for example. Or the celebrity jet-ins and their huge trains of stuff and flunkies on the way to environmental conferences.

But one indiscretion by a right wing Republican and it's the stocks and dipping chair, no delay at all.

Does he pay for it? Or is it picked up by the state (after all, he is the governor); or may be it is written off on his taxes as some sort of "business expense"?

Jets are a minor source of pollution. Their exhaust contains water vapor, unburned hydrocarbons, particulates, sulfates, nitrogen oxides (NOX), and carbon dioxide. The GW crowd has some concerns about the warming effects of the exhaust clouds. The exhaust clouds are mostly released at high altitudes so I do not think there is much of a pollution impact on the ground.

I am much more concerned about the hypocrisy pollution. The California governor is competing with the GW pope for the hot air prize. In times of insane gas prices, the California governor should just live as a commoner. If all of the other leftist hypocrits would stop their personal airplane trips, the reduction in oil demand may even have an impact on oil markets.

Food for thought. The next time some idiot liberal talks about carbon credits(which mean absolutely nothing to a person with a brain)ask them why only the rich are allowed to fly private jets and drive large vehicles. Why aren't they having to come down in the fuel restricted ether with the rest of us?

Don't they believe in sharing the wealth? Don't they believe Al Gore, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others like them should be sharing the wealth by giving their money to the government, selling their large houses and living in small 2 bedroom houses?

If Climate Change(AKA Global Warming)is so real then why are these people allowed to preach one thing to us and live a totally different life style than they preach?

Most libs I have tried it on can't come up with a good answer and when you ask them if there really is a tribe somewhere planting trees for carbon offsets, what tribe is it? Who gets the money? Do they know Al Gore buys carbon credits from his own company? How exactly does this help the environment?

Believe me you will never get a chance to finish your questions before the lib gets madder than he** and either walks off or tries to punch you!

“Very Nice plane, nice shack.”

I don't forsake him that, he earned it.
I don't care if he sails the Queen Elizabeth II to work
every morning. ( As long as HE is paying for it and not me.)

But what I have a serious problem with is piling debt
on the citizens of California like free health care for
illegal immigrants and then using globull warming as
a method of taxing the citizens to pay for his finical insanity.

The politicians that are responsible for this finical
irresponsibility expect the rest of us to live in caves
and ride bicycles to work while they spend us into oblivion
and continue living in extravagance themselves.

Make no mistake about it....
There is no Anthropogenic Global Warming. There is no energy / oil shortage.
Their just using these phony crisis as a tax to
pay the enormous debts they themselves created and
to redistribute Americas wealth.

Prove it, Ahnold. Who do you buy your credits from? How much do you pay for them?

Oh, and by the way, did you take your family with you whenever you had to go out of the country to film your movies?

I didn't think so.

What this article proves is that liberals/greenies really don't give a damn about (and don't believe in) the concept of so-called carbon credits. At heart they know it's a scam. The real reason they're angry at Schwarzenegger is that his flying is high-profile -- and thus stands to expose the scam to the masses. They just won't stand for that!

Notice how now it's morphing from "carbon credits" to "green credits"? Guess even the enviro-weenies are starting to realize that the too-much-carbon argument doesn't hold water.
