Three paramedics at Newark's University Hospital were fired this week after grainy images taken by a cellphone camera surfaced showing two student interns garbed in white sheets to look like robes of the Ku Klux Klan. Officials at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which operates the hospital, and its emergency medical services unit, called the episode "ugly and abhorrent," and "not be tolerated at any level."
University president William F. Owen, who disclosed details of the incident on Friday, said one of the paramedics offered to resign, but was terminated instead on Monday. Two others were subsequently fired on Thursday. "You don't walk away from something like this," he said, clearly angry. UMDNJ officials are still trying to piece together what led to the photos, which they said were taken last Sunday and quickly passed to managers, who wasted little time in taking action.
In one of the photographs released by the university, the trainees - both students from Northeastern University in Boston - stand with white sheets draped over their heads; one carrying a wooden cross held together with surgical gauze and tape. An EMS paramedic in a University Hospital uniform can be seen adjusting the sheet of the other. The sheets, with holes cut out for the eyes, apparently came from an ambulance.
"You can't make this stuff up. It's like being in Tennessee in the 1950s," said Owen, a Memphis native. UMDNJ identified the three fired paramedics as Timothy Prahm, Henry Solares and Thomas Hart. None could be immediately reached for comment Friday night. Officials said none of those involved was a person of color, and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said it was unaware of the incident and was not currently investigating.

Well it was in bad taste, But I have seen almost as bad when I worked for a Volunteer service.
When are people going to learn: DONT TAKE FREAKIN PICTURES”?
“And now for my next impression....Jesse Owens!”

Well, so much for a picture. Now, what did they do that was illegal or wrong to get fired? This was done alone and by themselves, not in front of patients or on the street so I don’t see anything wrong other than being not PC....and how did they know who were the two under the sheets...?
Amatures,watches are a no no.
I think the right decision was made here. This kind of “professional” conduct is not acceptable.
Let’s see what Jesse Jackson does when these clowns find another workplace that will hire them.
What kind of conduct are do you think you are seeing? Those pictures do not look at all like any Klan photos I have ever seen. And to refuse to let someone resign but to fire them instead show real class on the part of the institution, doesn’t it?
White sheets, a wooden cross...yes, it was just all in good fun, and just the kind of EMTs the public wants.
Sorry but just because a PC administrator makes the leap to the Klan does not make it true. Sorry, but I might buy it if there were hoods involved and even then it was merely a prank not an oath of allegience.
They’re all Democrats, anyway.
There were hoods, made out of the sheets, just look at the picture posted in the OP. There were more pics on Fox as well.
In the picture I saw it seemed there were two guys with sheets thrown over their heads? Where is a hood in that?
