SAN DIEGO - The observation posts are vacant, the National Guard helicopters that flew along the U.S.-Mexican border silent, the hammers and welders that beefed up the international boundary fence still.

After two years of a historic mission to strengthen the country's southern frontier and boost U.S. homeland security, members of the California National Guard are going home.

The border deployment, dubbed "Operation Jump Start," officially ends Tuesday, although a handful of Guard troops will remain in San Diego until the end of August writing final "after-action" reports.

Ya know the military should do some of their training on BOTH borders!

And while they’re there...the Corps of Engineers could be building a WALL/FENCE complete with video and motion sensors on BOTH borders...but then all of this is just too practical so it’ll probably never happen.

According to the lame duck democrat congress that approved
NAFTA and was signed by Clinton, any border dispute has to
be argued in front of an impartial referee.
I think this is a part reason our military was not armed.

Like it did a lot of good to begin with. Putting unarmed people on the border whose job was to not get involved did nothing to help the situation. What an idiot move by W.
