Feckless To Reckless, Pelosi Should Resign
IBD Editorials ^ | July 14, 2008

Leadership: With oil hitting $147, Nancy Pelosi finally admits energy is a problem. But instead of drilling for it, she's cooked up a new drain-the-reserves scheme. It's pure politics at a time of crisis. She ought to resign.

Any leader with an energy record as derelict as Speaker Pelosi's ought to step down. Where she once was just incompetent and irresponsible, she has now — with her latest scheme to fix oil prices — become dangerous.

Despite polls showing Americans in favor of drilling more oil from America's huge untapped supplies, Pelosi won't allow it. She just wants to empty our Strategic Petroleum Reserve for a short-term fix to get through Election Day.

It's an irresponsible suggestion, signaling not only an ignorance of how the economy works but also a willingness to place the nation at risk in the case of emergency.

Last Tuesday, Pelosi sent a letter to President Bush urging him to release a "small portion" of the nation's 706 million barrels of strategic-reserve oil to bring down prices. Regardless of how one feels about whether reserves should be held at all, two big problems stand out with Pelosi's tiny demand.

Pelosi’s tethered rather tightly to the San Francisco Marin County Tree Huggers who hang out on Capital Hill, with plenty of $$$$ to fill the coffers of spineless politicians like herself and others on both sides of the aisle.

The dummocrats thrive on misery . . . therefore, if she allows for our own oil drilling, that might solve a problem near and dear to the fly-over people (the ones that Hussein Obama sneers at). Therefore, “Tough, America! Deal with it! It’s George Bush’s fault!”

That botoxed manikin has been in power for how many years . . . and done nothing about oil?????????

Pelosi is a political hack nothing more nothing less.

NO. Pelosi is extremely competent. She keeps her troops in line with an iron hand. She pushes the liberal agenda every day in every way. Her vision of America is very different from that of conservatives...and she will do anything in her power to make her vision reality.

America would be better off if Pelosi was incompetent.

I think Bush should give Pelosi exactly what she is asking for. He should include a statement which explains that the Democrat Party has created a fuel emergency in the U.S. with their unAmerican activities and the only short term solution for it is to respond as we would to any such national emergency. But he should also point out that the long term solution to preventing a recurrence of such an emergency is to "Drill Here, Drill Now".

If we can put a man on the moon we should be able to put gasoline in our tanks.

San Fran Nan is nothing short of dangerous to the future of this grand experiment. Her style can only be summed up as “ignorance in support of partisanship”. And, Harry Reid hasn’t had a clue since childhood.
I find it absolutely unbelievable that ANYONE can look at the current crude oil crisis and see it for anything other than a supply/demand problem, complicated by a falling dollar in the global markets.
The only solution is either a reduction in global demand or an increase in global supply. I vote for an increase in supply.

Drill Here, Drill Now... ANWR, OCS, Northern Plains... Hell, drill in my backyard if it will help.

Draining the strategic oil reserves (for what, 30 days) will buy some time to invent a magical flying carpet machine that will transport people from the fruits and nuts of Marin County to the mind-numbing idiocy of the Washington Beltway in just 90 minutes.
