Srinagar, July 15 (KMS): A delegation of Russian army officers, as part of an extensive military cooperation program with India, is visiting occupied Kashmir to learn about mountain warfare.
Nearly a dozen of Russian military officers from the motorized infantry brigades highland training centre and the Far Eastern Military Command will get training in mountain-infantry units of Indian army in the occupied territory.
The Russian team, led by deputy commander Lt. Gen. Valery Yevnevich will see how the Indian troops train for mountainous operations, a Russian officer was quoted as saying. The visit, which runs until July 30, was agreed in Moscow on June 24 by India's Chief of Army Staff, General Deepak Kapoor, and Russia's Ground Forces commander, Gen. Alexei Maslov. Russia began deploying two mountain brigades in the North Caucasus last year, near the mountainous border with Georgia.
