Romney's stock rising as possible McCain VP
The Star ^ | Thursday July 15th | Jason Szep

Posted on 07/15/2008 7:34:11 AM PDT by ConservativeMan55

Political experts say the weakening U.S. economy, the No. 1 issue for voters, could sway McCain to pick Romney, whose experience as a successful former venture capitalist could compensate for McCain's weaknesses in economic matters.

They add that Romney, a multimillionaire former Massachusetts governor, would bring considerable strengths to the Arizona senator's bid for the White House -- from a proven ability to raise big money and connect with conservative Republicans to his telegenic good looks and executive style.

Yep!

Having Romney on the ticket would make a big difference for me.

If Mccain picks Romney I’ll donate and go out and actively campaign.

If Mccain picks somebody else I’ll hold my nose and vote for him.

McCain is too egotistical and out of touch to choose Romney. He’s not going to want to stand next to someone who makes him look short, old, creepy, and not very bright.

Palin IS my choice to be honest. An actual conservative with a record that tracks back, on all issues, further than this election cycle. I have good friends in Alaska, and she kicks serious ass.

I’m not really a fan of Romney at all, but generally speaking, I think he’s a good choice for McCain. Aside from the obvious strength he adds on economic issues, but from the polls I’ve seen, he would also add quite a bit to McCain’s candidacy in the upper Midwest, particularly Michigan.

I think he’ll be McCain’s pick.

I personally would find Romney’s addition a plus. I just don’t think McCain will do it. I think Captain Queeg is motivated by personal pettiness and revence. The whole McCain-Feingold thing was because McCain was pissed off at interest groups who attacked him.

As a man who married money, I think McCain is consumed with jealousy over Mitt, who is a genius at making money. As a man with a checkered moral and family history, I think McCain won’t want to be compared to Romney, who has an impeccable moral and family history. The viciousness and pettiness and jealousy aimed by other Republican candidates at Romney was strongest of all coming from McCain. I don’t think McCain gives up grudges. I think he nurses them.

I’ll be amazed if he picks Romney.

You gotta laugh at the MittNittWitts...they have to go to MALAYSIA to find an article pimping their boy, ROTFLMAO!The Star

About The Star and Sunday Star "The Star (daily) and Sunday Star, Malaysia's most widely-read English-language daily and Sunday newspapers, are published in four editions - two editions which cover the northern peninsular states of Penang, Kedah, Perlis and northern Perak while the other two editions cover the rest of the country."

I learned in the primary campaign to check out the source of the "Mitt is wonderful" threads...a lot of them were from obscure sources, but this one really takes the cake!

Is that desperation I smell on the air?

When people finally get serious about getting a Conservative in office, we may actually have serious choices as well.

Even though I’m a conservative Republican who is pro-gun,
Romney is one of the better names being circulated around.

He can bring a breath of relative youth, a knowledge of economics and an the ability to orate well to the ticket.
If McCain can;t finish his term, Romney has the executive experience to be President. I would also include Jindal and Sandford as well qualified and acceptable candidates.

People like Crist et al are defintely unacceptable.

I can live with Romney, but I think there are better, more consistent Conservatives out there. I would prefer not spending a couple of election cycles crossing my fingers hoping the man lives up to his website as opposed to his long term record.

Also after further reading on Cato's site on how rapidly Romneycare is falling apart (or is it "coming together) I am very gun shy on the man as a Conservative.

I'm not sure how Mitt got transformed into a conservative icon. In most election years he would be considered the RINO that needs a conservative with him to balance the ticket. Now he would supposedly be the conservative balance on the ticket.

Ah, well. I do think from a political standpoint he is a good choice. He is tested and vetted ... and that is huge.

You only have to sit through this uncomfortable video of one of my favorites, Gov. Mark Sanford, to realize how important it is.

On CNBC he seemed to be the ideal candidate.

Very articulate and relatively young, he would be a great counter to Obama’s youth and Obama’s oratory skills.

Plus he is very savvy economically and seemed very energetic and conservative.
Conservatives could get excited again.

That type could be my perfect candidate.

Mitt would make a great counter to Obama's supposed oratory skills.

Take away Obama's teleprompter and he's as blank as Hillary Clinton during cross examination.

That’s my problem with Romney. He hasn’t managed to convince me that his late-life changes on many social issues are genuine.

That said, I also tend to view a VP candidate more by their positives than their negatives. I do think he’s a good economic and foreign policy conservative. I can live with that, given the position he’d be tasked with. In fact, I think he’s a very good choice for that role.

I’d be less forgiving if he were running for president himself.

That is SCARY!

Yes, it is. And that's why McCain needs to pick someone who has been tested on the big stage.

Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal ... all good folks, but all would be a huge risk.

This is why it works so well to pick a strong rival from the primary season. Not only does it help unite the party, but you're also dealing with someone who has been through the wringer and has been pretty thoroughly vetted and tested.

So as much as it doesn't thrill me to admit it, Romney probably is the best choice politically.
