A 21-year-old Staten Island man from a family of convicts was shot and killed Tuesday, apparently with his own gun while trying to rob someone, police sources said.
Grant Fleming was shot on the fifth floor of a building in the Richmond Terrace Houses on Jersey St. but was able to stumble to the lobby, where he collapsed about 2 a.m., cops said.
Fleming, whose brother Rudy Fleming, 23, is serving a life sentence for gunning down actress Nicole duFresne in 2005 on the lower East Side, was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he died from the gunshot to his chest.
Another brother, Royal Fleming, 29, is serving an eight-year sentence for beating a man with a baseball bat during a robbery last year, records show.
Police believe Grant Fleming was attempting to rob his killer at gunpoint when the tables turned. They struggled for the weapon and the man was able to wrest it away from Grant and shoot him, police sources said. Video surveillance shows the gunman running off, tucking Grant Fleming's weapon into his waistband, the source said.
"It looks like he was shot with his own gun," the police source said.
Grant Fleming, a father of two young children, was mourned by the mother of his kids and friends on his MySpace.com page, where he listed "Law & Order" as his favorite show.
Law enforcement sources said Grant Fleming had a criminal record - not unlike his brothers. Royal Fleming had been arrested 20 times since 1993.
Rudy Fleming shot duFresne to death while robbing the 28-year-old Minnesota native, her fiancé and another couple on Jan. 27, 2005.
"This family is very well known to us on Staten Island for their long and glorious history of criminal behavior," a police source said.
The recently departed's myspace page.
I remember Nicole duFresne's murder well. She was shot after challenging a robber by calling his bluff and died in her fiancé's arms. IIRC, there were several articles on Free Republic about it.
It’s sad to see a complete waste of an entire generation within a family.
The family that slays together, stays together (that is, until they’re blown to hell).
Tough hop, homie.....
(Baseball All-Star Game reference)
Too tempting. Besides, I'd have make a myspace account to leave my nasty comments, and then I'd get arrested by the thought police who often use the site to track down and arrest people for bad thoughts.
Speaking of getting blown to hell, not much about the guy who blew him to hell. Wonder if the cops are looking very hard for him?
What a doomed family.. prayers for those little kids.
“* I BE SO ICY L!KE MY !CED OUT $CULL HE@D Ya D!GG*”
Hahahhahah! I hope they understand Ebonics in hell.
Sad but at least these guys are where they belong, dead or in prison. Unfortunately, sibling "Royal" Fleming is serving a measly 9 years after 20+ convictions so it won't be long before he's back to business as usual.
I’m sure the NYPD would like to give him a medal. One does pity those poor children. No doubt we can fathom where they may be in another 15 years... (assuming they are male).
Bye Bye dickweed

Part of the Obama electorate.....for "Hope" and "Change"...
Too bad this entire family couldn't have been aborted before they became a pestilence on the planet..
Is that SOB crying?
Lol, you’ve got to wonder whether they were ultimately tripped up by a police helicopter flying overhead or by some random Google Earth user.
Sad?
Hell, in my view it's too bad the bastards couldn't have been aborted or killed decades ago - before they became feral animals stalking and killing innocent citizens.
Yep, he be crying...
Doncha know these boyz from the hood are are mean and kool until the ice water of reality get pumped up their ass....
Then, they have their “come to Jesus” moment - and realize they ain’t mean enough or kool enough....
Using the keyword dufresne pulls up many articles about her murder.
I wish I had included the words "brother of duFresne killer" in parenthesis in the subtitle. There were a lot of people here following that case.
Oh, I know.
I read these threads and wonder if there's ever enough Kleenex® in the world to soak up all my tears.
Notice these liberal a**hats call a citizen who defended himself against an armed attacker "a killer" and a "gunman", even though he didn't have a gun but used the perp's gun. Gotta love the anti-law abiding citizen bias of the MSM. I guess they think he should have stood there and let himself be killed.
If not, he will be soon. He'll cry really pretty when they punk him out for the first time and start selling his bitch ass for drugs/pr0nz/favors/whatever. Most gangbangers are latent homosexuals anyway so I'm sure he'll enjoy the whole prison experience.
The answer is more gun control!(/lib speak)
Holy cow, that’s a lot of bikes.
Yeah, I guess he became a "killer" and a "gunman" when he stuffed the newly retired robber's gun into his waistband and hightailed it outta there without calling the police.
Doing their bit to improve the gene pool.
All that practice and still no good at it.
He didn't want to bother the police, so he was taking the gun down to them, I'm sure. Why did it not get there? Well, he had to stop and save the orphans from the burning building, help old ladies across the street, etc. ;-)
Still, I don't like slamming people who use weapons in self defense, nor do I like Political Correctness.
...the latter of which is why I am not criticizing the writer for clearly explaining who did what in factually correct terms, rather than trying to make it P.C. and use euphemisms.
Calex...do you have a suggested replacement for the text?
“Mood: Crushed”
Well, looks like she made the right choice by staying away from this guy.
I don’t know why some posters on FR seem to think it’s a good idea that criminals will be raped in prison. I’d guess this one is more likely to be the rapist than the victim. The victims tend to be young, slightly built white men without a long criminal record or gang backup.
If you don’t care that someone might get a death sentence (AIDS) for a relatively minor crime or even an arrest without conviction, maybe you should care about the really bad guys getting their sick pleasure in prison and being allowed to persist in their brutality.
Fleming had a long history of run-ins with the law, and that he had been arrested at least ten times since 2003 on an array of charges involving weapons, drugs and robbery.
“He still was a kid, no matter what happened. He still was young,” said area resident Tommy Jones. “We’re losing a lot of our young people.”
“He was a pretty good guy,” said family friend Emmanuel Owusu. “A good father, good friend. We’re all going to miss him a lot.
Grant John Nolan Fleming of New Brighton, the 21-year-old known to friends as Gorilla.
“He was a funny guy,” said his mother, Rose Ellen Fleming. “He loved people and his family. His mommy and daddy are going to miss him dearly.”
In addition to his parents, surviving Mr. Fleming are his longtime girlfriend, Takia L. Cruz; his son, Grant John Nolan Fleming-Cruz; his daughter, Lorigai Moné Fleming-Cruz; three brothers, Royal and Pernell Fleming and Keenan Wiggins, and two sisters, Tomika Fleming-Campbell and Kerri Fleming.
I take a completely different view. To me, I hope that this particular pedagogic nightmare might be snuffed out.

Bloods member Grant Fleming, 21
A Staten Island ex-con whose thug brother blew away an aspiring actress in cold blood was killed yesterday by a man he was trying to rob, sources said.
Grant Fleming
It is an odd construction and there is no actual concrete reference for “gunman’s”. It just sort of hangs there and could even refer to a third party altogether. It only means “the possessor of the gun” without indicating which person is being referenced. You have to deduce that from the sequence.
You could always ping Admin Moderator and ask that he add it for you.
Grant Fleming had been arrested 10 separate times before the killing, and was at one point accused in connection with a February 2007 shooting on Jersey Street in which an unidentified bystander was grazed in a hail of bullets.
His father, Royal Wiggins, spewed invective at several reporters who tried to interview one of his neighbors in 131 Jersey St.
Royal Fleming, who police believe to be Grant’s brother, is serving an eight-year prison sentence for a September 2007 robbery in which he used a razor or a box cutter to hold up a Jersey Street store and steal several boxes of socks and pantyhose.

I went to alot of different websites trying to find info about what happened to Grant and all I see are bad comments about him. Yeah, what he did was definatly stupid, and in a strange way he did get what he deserved. But I have known Grant personally my whole life and he was not a bad person. He was very humble and never disrespectful to anyone. He made some stupid decissions, but I honestly believe that if they made it easier for felons who are actually willing to change, made it easier for them to get jobs and housing there would be less incidents like this. His back was against the wall...he has 2 kids to take care of and no stable source of income because it’s close to impossible for a felon to get a job. And all the ignorant comments about black & white have nothing to do with this. It’s about living in poverty and trying to cope with it. RIP Gorilla Grant! Big B’s.
NY Post
Bloods member Grant Fleming, 21, was shot in the chest three times after he sneaked up behind a man walking into his Jersey Street apartment with a bag of groceries.
The targeted victim grabbed Fleming’s gun and opened fire.
Police said Fleming had a lengthy criminal record, including criminal contempt, robbery, and illegal possession of guns
Its RIGHTEOUS to see a complete waste of an entire generation within THIS family.
“Its sad to see a complete waste of an entire generation within a family.”
No, it’s not. This family should have been exterminated a long time ago. Hopefully, these boys didn’t leave and heirs.
I suppose those bikes are stolen?
“I dont know why some posters on FR seem to think its a good idea that criminals will be raped in prison.”
Why not? Our justice system sure won’t deal with them.
Rehabilitation through reincarnation!
Well done!!
Gunman is a favorite term of the MSM. It is one of the terms used to make gun owners seem evil. In this particular case it is especially obnoxious since this guy was defending himself and did the country a favor by taking this a**hat out. The guy who was killed was the real “gunman” and they know it. They simply don’t like people defending themselves.
Parse the sentence there. Gunman does not directly refer to either person. The assumption should be that “gunman” refers to the robber because he is the one who was carrying the gun with intent to use. People reading quickly assume that “gunman” refers to the victim because normally a pronoun would be used in that position but “gunman” in this use does not refer back to the person who was robbed. There was surely no attempt to make the robbee the gunman, merely a determination to use the word “gunman” in the piece. It was used awkwardly because normally a pronoun would be appropriate in that position i.e. “he” instead of “the gunman.” The sentence is an assault on plain English, not on the successful self-defender.
