Obama Remarks On Confronting Terrorist Threats (TRANSCRIPT -- "must read")
Washington Post ^ | July 16, 2008 | Barack Hussein Obama

Posted on 07/16/2008 12:36:37 PM PDT by FocusNexus

In a few moments, we'll open this up to a discussion, but first I'll make a few comments about some of the emerging threats that we face in the 21st century, and offer some ideas about how we can face those threats.

It's time to send a clear message to the world: America seeks a world with no nuclear weapons. As long as nuclear weapons exist, we'll retain a strong deterrent. But we'll make the goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons a central element in our nuclear policy. We'll negotiate with Russia to achieve deep reductions in both our nuclear arsenals and we'll work with other nuclear powers to reduce global stockpiles dramatically. We'll seek a verifiable global ban on the production of fissile material for weapons. And we'll work with the Senate to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and then seek its earliest possible entry into force.

I've proposed a Shared Security Partnership that invests $5 billion over 3 years to forge an international intelligence and law enforcement infrastructure to take down terrorist networks.

Read it and weep.

Hussein is delusional -- is he that stupid, or does he think we are? He think he can eliminate all nuclear weapons in the world. He would probably end up disarming us unilaterally, so we'll "lead by example".

And he still thinks terrorism is a "law enforcement issue".

I am not exaggerating, when I say, that his will most likely kill a lot of innocent people, mostly us.

Barack Hussein Obama is a clear and present danger to the US and the world.

"why we must develop the technology to detect attacks and to trace them to their origin, so that we can react in a timely fashion"

Nothing about PREEMPTING an attack by killing the terrorists BEFORE they can attack us. We'll "react" after they killed thousands or even millions of us. Really great policy. Vote for Obama! (Sarcasm, of course)

By keeping our commitment under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, we'll be in a better position to rally international support to bring pressure to bear on nations like North Korea and Iran that violate it.

That's EXACTLY what he would do. He already said he would eliminate all work on the missile intercept program — both missile and laser based. Also cut military modernization projects, etc. etc. I'm sure he'd cut the military budget -- as badly or worse than Clinton did.

He is not just stupid or a buffoon, but he is the most dangerous potential president — including economics, energy security, and tax policy — this country has EVER seen.

God save us!!!!

As I said, he’ll unilaterally disarm us and hope that N. Korea and Iran will “follow our example” — when, instead, they’ll nuke us instead, knowing that we can’t retaliate in kind.

If Obama would actually sit and look at things that we are doing in the middle east he would notice that by being in Iraq and Afganistan, we have Iran surrounded. May be the next conflict.

You are absolutely right.

That’s why we need to make sure to let as many people know, as possible, the real danger President Obama would be to the country and vote for McCain, like it not, because the alternative IS Obama. We have to remember that if a little over 500 people had stayed home or voted third party, instead of turning out to vote for Bush, we would have had President Gore.

The haloed one clearly has a plan for removing nuclear physics and related knowledge from the collective and individual memory of humanity.Sort of a Tower of Babel kind of event.Of course maybe he believes that removing knowledge is as easy as removing data from his website.

This is not the time to teach the Republican part and the RINOs a lesson.

The same narrow margin of votes not given in the 2006 race gave us a democrap Senate, and more D gains in the house than we should have had.

We're paying a desperate price for that hissy fit by “purists” now, if they sit back do it again, they are part the enemy of the US in my book. (see my tag line form 2006 election)

"It's time to update our national security strategy to stay one step ahead of the terrorists -- to see clearly the emerging threats of our young century, and to take action to make the American people more safe and secure."

No mention that that is exactly what we did in Afghanistan. We took out the Taliban as a government of state sponsored terror and Al Qaeda's biggest supporter. Hussein Osama doesn't even mention this.

Then we took on the terrorists in Iraq and invited all terrorist in the world to come there and fight. They did, we won.

I wonder how you say "We got us a live one here!" in Russian and Chinese? I remember when Klintoon went on TV and told us that the Chinese no longer have their missiles pointed at us. How the heck would he know, and even if they didn't, how long does it take to re-target, and how would he know? I felt like throwing a shoe at the screen.

This guy is far more arrogant and naive than Klintoon. He has no clue.

Now, we worry -- most of all -- about a rogue state or nuclear scientist transferring the world's deadliest weapons to the world's most dangerous people: terrorists who won't think twice about killing themselves and hundreds of thousands in Tel Aviv or Moscow, in London or New York.

We worry most of all about a rogue state the number one rogue state, Iraq, was in no way a threat?

By keeping our commitment under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, we'll be in a better position to rally international support to bring pressure to bear on nations like North Korea and Iran that violate it. Both of these nations have a history of support for terror. Both should face strong and increasing sanctions if they refuse to verifiably abandon their illicit nuclear programs. And both demand sustained, aggressive, and direct diplomatic attention from the United States, and that's what I'll provide as President.

While diplomacy is nice, without the threat of the use of a stick, like was done with Saddam after twelve years of failed diplomacy; rogue regimes are unlikely to suspend their nuclear ambitions.

As President, I'll make cyber security the top priority that it should be in the 21st century. I'll declare our cyber-infrastructure a strategic asset, and appoint a National Cyber Advisor who will report directly to me. We'll coordinate efforts across the federal government, implement a truly national cyber-security policy, and tighten standards to secure information -- from the networks that power the federal government, to the networks that you use in your personal lives.

Appoint another advisor as a substitute for action.

That is the task that lies before us. We must never let down our guard, nor suffer another failure of imagination. It's time for sustained and aggressive action -- to take the offense against new dangers abroad, while shoring up our defenses at home.

Diplomacy is not aggressive action and neither is mentioning the word in a speech. Taking out Saddam and rogue regimes is aggressive action, something that you repeatedly oppose.

I don’t know which is worse, that Obama may buy the drivel he puts forth; or that half the American people and all most all members of the media and academia do buy it.

Just whom is he going to declare as a terrorist? Maybe any US citizen that does not agree with him or his policies?” How many MORE police agencies do we need? Apparently, the CIA, FBI, Interpol, US Marshals, BATF, etc… isn’t enough.

This is not the time to teach the Republican part and the RINOs a lesson.

And when will be? What would be the most plausible scenario for the country to get back on track following the election of John McCain?

I'll tell you the scenario I see if Obama is elected. I'll readily admit it's a long shot, but it's frankly better than anything I can see for McCain. And that scenario would be that following the election of Obama the Democrats become sufficiently brazen in their efforts that they trigger a crisis of legitimacy, where many people realize that parts of the government are simply not legitimate. The more rapid and widespread the realization, the more likely those parts of the government can be replaced without excessive bloodshed.

A long shot, I'll agree. But if McCain's elected I see no plausible way this country will ever have a conservative party again without first having to elect someone as bad as Obama. Perhaps you can offer some plausible scenario I'm not seeing?
