Hey buddy, can you spare a movie ticket?

Hundreds of Denver's homeless could be cooling their heels in a movie theater or museum while the Democratic National Convention is in town next month.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless plans to get 500 movie tickets as well as passes to the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature and Science and other cultural facilities for the people it helps.

Many day shelters will have expanded hours during the convention, and big screen TVs are being donated to some shelters so patrons can watch convention goings-on without being caught up in the mayhem.

A two-day voter registration drive is also planned at shelters and health clinics to ensure that metro area homeless people have access to the polls in November.

But not everyone buys it.

"It just sounds like another way to get rid of them," said Kayne Coy, 17, who volunteers feeding the homeless twice a week at Civic Center Park through the Food Not Bombs organization.

As for the convention, Coy said: "I've heard rumors that all the homeless people are going to be sent away to Aurora or somewhere else."

Tight security around the Pepsi Center means some homeless people will get booted out of their regular camps along the South Platte River. Then, there's the protests and parades.

"Our concern going forward is that the city doesn't control everything - the Secret Service plays a role," he said. "We don't know what will happen if protests get out of control and people get caught up in something they didn't intend to."

Ronnie Wand, who was panhandling across the street, said he will believe the free tickets when he sees them.

"I don't care," said the 62-year-old, who expects to land in jail for vagrancy during the DNC. Subscribe to the Rocky Mountain News

Will the DNC also pay for cleaning up the theatres afterwards?

Reminds me of how “socialist paradises” clean up areas of nonexistent homeless people and prostitutes before they let journalists in.

There is an irony here that obviously escapes the DIMs and their sycophants in the media.

Since when do they ever clean up a mess they've helped to cause? They will castigate the theater owners for objecting to the three day Hancock marathon

Been there. Done that.

This brings to my mind the SOS the democrats did in 1992. In NYC.

....... New York police officers under Democratic Mayor David Dinkins spent six weeks ushering the homeless out of midtown Manhattan—beautifying the area for Bill Clinton’s coronation at the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

Why don’t they just find a local Armory, get a big screen with a projecter and some movies, along with some cots. Then the kids from “Food Not Bombs” can come and...what? You say they won’t set foot inside the Armory??? Too many military types around? Yeah, but there are the homeless too. Wouldn’t it be a lesson in tolerance?

Bulk movie tickets are a real bargain at about $6.00 (Los Angeles) and are available to any group. Just contact your favorite chain.

They are swapping out the indigenous bums for imported bums?

Nice to know what a vote is worth these days. Most likely the Dems will swing by and pick up the homeless to take them to the polls before they get the Alzheimer patients (and I'm not kidding)

I never dreamed the libtards would be ashamed of the homeless, didn’t they unlock the institutions? Maybe the visiting eastern elitists and the Hollywood limos would be embarrassed.

Man, the homeless have already taken over the downtown, hugely expensive, public library. I don’t think they should be able to take over the zoo and the museums too.

I still say that the franchise should only be granted to those who are over the age of 18 and: paid income taxes for the previous year or are a dependant of someone who has. Also, anyone who is on welfare or food stamps, or has been within the past year, should not be granted the franchise. There is no sane or logical reason in the world why someone who is such a failure in their own life that they cannot even find a way to put a roof over their head, or even afford to buy food without a government handout, should have any say in how the country is run.

Downtown Denver is a homeless disgrace, and I won’t be spending vacation dollars in that dump of city anytime soon. Cater to the homeless, run off the tourism. Great strategy.

Wonder if they’ll be passing around xanex and other tranquilizers to the mob of agitators that are descending on their town. Maybe they’ll hire some hookers to keep them “busy” in the sheets rather than the streets.

And hey, it’s easier to arrest people on sex and drug offenses using the vice squad rather than locking them up for disturbing the peace and assault.

Looks like a good opportunity for communities across America to send their vagabonds, hoboes, bums, misfits, wobbly Willys, tramps, drunks, drug fiends, dumpster divers and the phrenologically challenged to Denver.

Line up the buses and advertise free food, free beer, free movies. All Aboard!

She doesn’t look very underfed, does she?

If I own a movie theater, the price of admission ($8.50-$12) pretty much guarantees me an orderly, nice clientele. So how am I to deal with a bunch of homeless people, many of whom are mentally ill (unfortunate, but true) and smell bad, invading my business and potentially running off “paying” customers?

I suppose I could post a sign, “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for anything.” But then would I get sued?

IMHO, the business owners that have to put up with this nonsense will most likely NOT vote RAT come November.

Well, that would leave alot of folks out unfairly. There are many who work, but don’t make enough to pay taxes. It isn’t that they are slackers, but that the job is entry level. Example, consider the person who is caring for a sick parent. Their income falls below the level. As for welfare and food stamps, same thing. Not everyone is a slacker. Sometimes folks have bad things happen to them and may need assistance for a period of time. My niece is a good example. Her husband was murdered, and then after that their baby died of SIDS. She already has a child (8 yo) to care for. Not to mention being harrassed by the sperm donor, who is a truly evil male. Thankfully, you’re not in charge.
