In yesterday's item on the New Yorker cover cartoon kerfuffle, we observed: "A cartoon of Obama inspires fury and outrage. A cartoon of McCain leads everyone to shrug. Obama is being treated like Muhammad, McCain like Jesus." It turns out there was another McCain cartoon with offensive elements that went completely unnoticed, lending further weight to our McCain-Jesus linkage.
This one depicts a crazed-looking McCain trapped in a bamboo cage, being tormented by his captors: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee (whoever he is), all of whom are drawn with exaggerated Oriental features: thin eyes, yellowish skin, coolie hats.
The cartoon accompanies an article by Matt Taibbi called "Full Metal McCain," with the subheadline "Haunted by the ghosts of Vietnam, the one-time maverick has transformed himself into just another liberal-bashing fearmonger." It appears in the June 26 issue of Rolling Stone.

This cartoon is evil and hateful!

This one is funny because it is true.
Huckabee? This looks more like a Chinese stepchild of Wolfowitz and Bush.
Absolutely. That’s Bush.
One might call the cartoon "reverse satire"....showing not the negatives of Obama...but the "Negative thinking of Republicans".
IMHO, this was a "Obama campaign plot".
The reactions reflect different levels of respect of the two candidates and different levels of their self respect. O’Bama is always afraid someone is going to see him in a believable bad light. McCain is not worried about that. Everyone knows who he is already and no cartoons or insults will change that perception. Cartoons and such probably won’t change perceptions of Hussein either but he fears that they will.
