Girl Missing 5 Weeks Never Reported Lost; Mother Says Doing Own Search

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A woman accused of not reporting her daughter missing for five weeks refused to answer a judge's question of where her daughter was in a bizarre missing person case that continues to frustrate investigators.

Casey Anthony, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday after her daughter's grandparents called Orange County sheriff's deputies over concerns about the well-being of Caylee Marie Anthony, 2.

Detectives said when they contacted Casey Anthony it was determined that she apparently never told anyone that Caylee has been missing for more than a month.

Thursday, Judge John Jordan asked Anthony where her daughter was.

"Mrs. Anthony, the court would say to you, 'Where is Caylee Anthony?' Jordan asked Thursday. "But I can't force you to answer that question but that is the question I leave with you. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir," Anthony said.

Anthony did not say anything else.

"It appears to the court that you care so little for your child that you did not even report her missing until five weeks later," Jordan also said.

Did she sell the little girl? Or kill her? Or allow a boyfriend to kill her?

If only the grandfather had thought to beat some answers out of her before she was safely in police custody.

Yes, indeed, very strange. I would think that any parent fearing the loss of a child would take the help of anybody and everybody who might even possibly be available.

“The woman also said she saw movies and reports that if people in similar situations went to police, they had gotten hurt.”

I watched the first video. Her demeanor as she testifies before the judge is what I would expect. However, when she is walking in custody with the police she actually looks quite happy to be in the spotlight. No shame. No embarrassment. No fear.

It is strange but I am wondering what the charges are? The grandparents say she is missing, what if she is not missing and the mother has her hidden with someone else for whatever reason. If so, Why is she required to devulge that information. Yess this looks fishy as hell but my question is what law was broken and what was she chrged with to be brought before a judge.

"...Why is she required to devulge that information...my question is what law was broken and what was she charged with to be brought before a judge..."

A lawyer would tell the woman to just tell the judge that she found the daughter not breathing and unresponsive and threw her in the ocean.

Case closed.

Justice done.

"You left your 2-year-old child with a person who does not exist at an apartment you cannot identify and you lied to your parents about your child's whereabouts," Judge John Jordan said during a hearing this morning, according to the Orlando Sentinel. "You cared so little about your child."

Friends described Casey Anthony to deputies as a "habitual liar" who once stole $700 and checks from a friend. She also told a former boyfriend on June 25 that she would be free to get together because her daughter was "with the nanny and that they had gone to the beach for the weekend."

Casey Anthony did not "show any obvious emotion as to the loss of her child….she continued to claim ignorance and at times, laughed about the situation," according to an arrest report.

Many of Casey Anthony’s friends and family maintain online pages and that includes Anthony’s own mother, Cynthia. On her MySpace page, she describes intense love for her daughter and the missing granddaughter, but there’s also evidence of the problems that crept into their relationship.

As news of Casey’s arrest broke, Eyewitness News did some digging and found a number of photos of her out on the town on social networking sites. Little Caylee never appears in any of them.

Friends told Eyewitness News that Casey used several nannies to care for her daughter, but they weren’t sure how she got the money to pay for them.

On the MySpace page set up by Cynthia Anthony, Casey’s mother and the grandmother of the missing child, she lists her mood as “distraught.” In one of her blog postings, she details the sometimes strained relationship she has with Casey.

“What does the mother get for giving her daughter all of these chances? A broken heart. The daughter who stole money, lots of money, leaves without warning and does not let her mother now speak to the baby that her mother raised, fed, clothed, sheltered, paid her medical bills,” her blog posting reads.

According to more from that posting, Casey Anthony had also apparently criticized her mother for being too controlling and not giving her enough space.

When my daughters were that age they loved playing with those temporary tattoos. They had animals, angels, hearts, smiley faces, etc. I can remember:”Hey dad,we're giving you a tattoo.”
