San Francisco voters will be asked to decide whether to name a city sewage plant in honor of President Bush, after a satiric measure qualified for the November ballot today.
Backers of the measure, who for several months circulated a petition to place the measure on the ballot, turned in more than 12,000 signatures on July 7, said organizer Brian McConnell. The Department of Elections today informed those supporters, the self-proclaimed Presidential Memorial Commission, that they had enough valid signatures - a minimum of 7,168 registered San Francisco voters - to qualify for the November ballot, he said.
McConnell, who came up with the idea over beers with friends, often donned an Uncle Sam outfit to drum up support for the petition. Other signature gatherers - all volunteers - often carried around an American flag and blasted patriotic music from a boom box to attract attention. He said today that the campaign to pass the measure will be an equally grassroots effort.
The measure, if passed by a majority of voters, would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.

Perhaps Nevada could name a brothel after Pres. Clinton?
To: SmithL
I propose they name the SFPD range after Dan White.

The USA is a single body of states. San Francisco is our self-proclaimed anus. If they want to dedicate a sewage treatment plant to our current leader, then so be it. We should expect short-sightedness, if not blindness, from the population in that region.

I think it’s up to us to find another location in the country to name/rename an effluent holding tank or basin to The “Best of San Francisco” - they certainly deserve it.

Since the most popular place for homosexual men to take or find a date is the public toilet, wouldn't it be more appropriate name it the San Francisco Bathhouse & Spa.

W should show up at the opening, take the micrphone, let out a huge fart, grin ear to ear, then ride off into the sunset, shooting the bird.

I stopped visiting San Francisco in the 80’s when it became apparent what an Aids infested hole it was, inhabited by a bunch of lefty maggots. Republicans get out of that hell hole one of these days the earth will open up and swallow that piece of earth along with the garbage living there.

Might be an honor in disguise...a sewage treatment plant makes useless water useful again. At least the presidents name is associated with a useful function. Now the libs there are just the utter and untreatable sewage upon the land so we bestow that dishonor to them! I’ll say a little prayer and flush twice next time I visit the crapper throne in SF to salute the libs!

Seems like the State of Calinfornia should be named for George Bush.

Might be an honor in disguise...a sewage treatment plant makes useless water useful again. I'd much rather have a sewage plant named after me than a government-subsidized housing project.

I think Bush should play this out with complete sincerity and humility. He should announce that he is privileged to have his name associated with an essential installation that maintains the good health of hundreds of thousands of people, and ask for the honor of being allowed to speak at its dedication. Then he should call out for recognition the under-appreciated workers and civil engineers who built and operate it. My speech would include the words "cleaning up after the dirty hippies", but W is more gracious than that. He would make these douchebags look like absolute monkeys in the eyes of everyone outside of San Francisco.
