Madrid, Spain (AHN) - The Spanish Supreme Court decided on Thursday to acquit five bombers in the 2004 Madrid commuter train blast which killed 191 people and injured 1,800.
An Egyptian, Rabei Osman, was acquitted due to double-jeopardy provisions, he has already been sentenced to an eight-year prison term in Italy. The court said there was insufficient evidence to charge him with mass murder.
The court likewise upheld the acquittal of Basel Ghalyoun, Muhammad Almallah Dabas, Abdelilah el Fadual el Akil and Raul Gonzalez, all of whom had convictions ranging from five to 12 year prison terms.
The sentence of several suspects were reduced, while Antonio Toro was convicted of swapping the explosives used in the attack for drugs and money and sentenced to four years. A second convicted mastermind, Othman el Gnaoui, was cleared of falsification, but was kept in prison for more serious charges.

This probably is a way to reward them for handing the government from Aznar to the socialists.

Lookie, he either did the dirty deed or he didn't, there is no "double-jeopardy" in the WOT. Eight years is not enough, this scum needs to meet 72 virgin fire-n-brimstone residents down south ....

Let’s see, Aznar was in a tight down to the wire election with a harccore leftist. A bomb explosion kills 191 Spaniards days before the election. Leftist gets on TV blames Aznar and his policies and his slow reaction and gets the essential bump needed to overcome Aznar. Terrorists that are caught are not convicted. I think the leftist planned this all along.

The Spanish people voted in the current government, not by much, in a backlash against the Madrid bombings. It was an emotional and irrational election mindset.
People do change their minds. It’s why we have had Pelosi as House Speaker for the past couple of years. Events can change voter thinking.

Not quite. Anzar’s government intially thought the bombing was the work of Basque separatists from ETA. When it became apparent that this was not true there was a tremendous backlash against his government.
Now to think that the attack might have been the work of a terrorist group that has been fighting Spanish Governments since anybody can remember is not an unreasonable position, or a theory to lightly dismiss. But he was wrong about the attack & that was all that was needed.
Politically-speaking what happened with the Madrid Bombing roughly parallels what our own Dems have done to GWB over the pre-War WMD claim.
The obscenity of it all is that the Socialist Spanish Government turns right around & releases the Islamic bombers. I guess we can look forward to the Democrats closing Gitmo & sending the inmates home with our sincere apologies.

If Obama gets elected he might have ex Gitmo detainees in his cabinet.
To: aft_lizard
You probably have the timeline nailed ~ Leftwingtards (aka Socialists in Spain) planned it. Islamofascists did the job.
Same thing with the Anthrax attack in the US. It's pretty cear that a fairly large segment of American Leftwingtard professionals planned it, got the stuff they needed, and then passed it along to the Islamofascists to make the hit.
They've probably done it this way in other situations as well.
Time to call Barbara Hatch Rosenberg in for a talk; maybe even Obama's little friends too.

I so agree....and in my humble opinion...we can look at Europe and see what's ahead for our dear country...all with the deliberate help of our own government. What a bunch of thieving, deceivers we have allowed to get into positions of power...in our Congress, courts...you name it...it's appalling.

After this second sentence on 3/11, only three people are convicted regarding the Madrid Train Bombinngs, Jamal Zougham and Otman El Ganoui, both Muslims; and the Christian miner Trashorras, for supplying the explosives. The rest were convicted for belonging to a terror organization or trafficking with explosives, but not for the attack itself.
Neither Zougham nor El Ganoui were Islamists.
Many Spaniards still don't swallow the official version on the attacks, full of contradictions, and have constituted themselves in an association whose members examine all the official and unofficial documents and information on the case, the Peones Negros. You can check a video on the issue
here.
Furthermore, you may check the contradictions on the case here:
Search @ Freerep or just clicking on my name.
Regarding Aznar's administration on ETA as perpetrators, you can check this:
The Chief of the Spanish Intelligence During 3/11, New Ambassador in the US
Finally, regarding the evidence against Rabei Osman, the Egyptian, you got this:
3/11: An Italian Job
We report, you decide.

3/11, an attack without suicide bombers, is based in a previous one: the
Bologna massacre.
They have used the same tactics, although the Italians were lucky for having a truly independent third branch.

Good question. The attack has no Islamic characteristics, as you can read here:
3/11: The Non-Existent Islamist Character of the Atrocity
ETA did participate in 3/11, although not as perpetrator, but in a previous disinformation campaign, as you can read here:
3/11: The Disinformation Campaign
I think it was an inside job, probably carried out by mercenaries under cover of officials of the Spanish security forces. Surprisingly, Frank Gaffney Jr. pointed out something very similar before we knew a lot of evidence suggesting this, as you can read here:
Spains Terrorgate?

No, because the Italian oligarchies behind the Bologna train station massacre are the same to whom Socialist Zapatero, the Spanish prime minister after 3/11, gave the control of the Spanish energy giant ENDESA breaking the Rule of Law, as you can read here:
