Add another quote to the litany of idiocy issued by Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn., over the years. "To suggest somehow that (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) are in trouble is simply not accurate," Sen. Dodd said during CNN's "Late Edition" Sunday. "The facts are that Fannie and Freddie are in sound situations. They have more that adequate capital, in fact more than the law requires."
Recall the scene in the film "Animal House," in which the character played by Kevin Bacon attempts to block a stampede of panicked citizens by crying, "All is well!" Sen. Dodd performs a credible re-enactment.
In fact, Fannie and Freddie, which buy or finance nearly half the mortgage debt in the nation, are in deep trouble. Even The New York Times' liberal economist, Paul Krugman, who downplays the magnitude of the crisis, acknowledged in his column Monday that "Fannie and Freddie probably will need a government rescue."
The very day Dr. Dodd pronounced the companies the picture of health, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson asked Congress for permission to initiate a bailout. Specifically, Mr. Paulson would be able to allow each of the ailing companies to withdraw, from the government, more than the current limit of $2.25 billion. He also could arrange for the government to buy Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac stock if they fall short of capital. His game plan "would bring the Treasury closer than ever to exposing taxpayers to potentially huge new liabilities," the Times said in a front-page article Monday.
Time will tell whether the all-is-well chorus or the alarm-sounders are right, but the record isn't encouraging. Sen. Dodd has a long record of being wrong, beginning with his assertion as a congressman in 1975 that the Cambodian people would be better off disarmed. His view prevailed, and the result was Pol Pot's killing fields, in which 2.5 million died. Years later, he called Ronald Reagan's vision of the Cold War "folly, pure and simple ... a conflict that can't be won." His preferences in Central and Latin America helped usher the likes of Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua and Evo Morales of Bolivia into power, much to the detriment of U.S. interests.
After MSNBC reported Sen. Dodd's first assurances of peace and prosperity at the two lending institutions on Sunday, a respondent called Pearson Drudge nailed it in just 11 words: "Now this concerns me. Dodd has gotten exactly nothing right ever."
Perhaps it wouldn't matter so much congressmen say stupid things all the time but Sen. Dodd is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, where he's positioned to turn his blunders (and, if the Countrywide scandal continues to widen, something far worse than mere blunders) into public policy.
Ping to a Republican-American Editorial.
If you want on or off this list, let me know.
What a jacka$$!!! How does this guy keep getting elected!!
LOL! Though I admit I had to click on this thread right away -- just to see which of our illustrious scumbags it was this time!
When fools are granted the privilege to vote -- they elect those in their own image.....fools, or worse!
Please Obama, pick Dodd as your running mate.
Pretty please.
Waitress sandwiches for everyone!
The truth is that liberals have been wrong on everything since (at least ) World War Two. They make up whole mythologies to misdirect the fools from this fact. Remember, these are the “best and brightest” we have to offer.
I don’t remember if the woman was ever named, and I wouldn’t want to drag her into the limelight at this late date, but wouldn’t it be great if she came forward voluntarily?
“Hi, my name is Sweet Polly Purebred, and I used to be a waitress ...”
Icky poo!
Or should I say a Fannie Mae-Freddie Mac waitress sandwich?
Kevin Bacon was in Animal House?
Ooops, yeah he sure was. My bad.
When are people going to accept that Dodd hasn't been wrong at all when in fact he's been highly successful at promulgating such disastrous consequences?
It's intentional. He's evil. Deal with it. Call it what it is.
This bastard just tried to sneak into a HUD funding bill a provision requiring EVERY electronic transaction in the whole country to be reported to the government, a violation of civil liberties without peer in the entire history of this country. He belongs in a jail cell awaiting trial for treason. To call him "stupid" or "wrong" misses the point entirely.
By making money for the right people.
When I was a sales manager hiring salespeople we had a saying. “You recruit in your own image and likeness.” That’ what Connecticut got.
Please, so Rell can pick a Republican for his seat. Chris, you aren't your dad - a military liberal!! You are SLEAZE!!
How did a worthless POSdunderheadmoronjerkwaddipsh!ta$$holedillweed like Cristopher Dodd get to be the chairman of the senate banking committee?
Yes. He played one of the ROTC guys.
Yes, fair question it is! Leaves you w/ a poor impression of the CT electorate. Either Dodd really represents them or most are completely asleep and dont want to be awakened.
Seniority.
“a violation of civil liberties without peer in the entire history of this country”
Well, this comes pretty damn close:

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

He Represents Connecticut ,Home of Legions of Guilt ridden Left wing Loons ,more commonly known as DEMOCRATS .
More depressing is the fact that there are those well known Independents who just wait for someone else to tell them which way to go and with a state that is controlled from one end to the other by these bleeding heart MORONS ,the Result is a Christopher Dodd
At least the libs, being the ideologically and morally consistent lot they are, will hate him and call for his ouster the same as President Bush, for this grievous violation of privacy.
/bitter highlight of hypocrisy
