No smoking hot spot (CO2 doesn't cause globull warming)
The Australian ^ | July 18, 2008 | David Evans

I DEVOTED six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian Greenhouse Office. I am the rocket scientist who wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia's compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, in the land use change and forestry sector.

FullCAM models carbon flows in plants, mulch, debris, soils and agricultural products, using inputs such as climate data, plant physiology and satellite data. I've been following the global warming debate closely for years.

When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty good: CO2 is a greenhouse gas, the old ice core data, no other suspects.

The evidence was not conclusive, but why wait until we were certain when it appeared we needed to act quickly? Soon government and the scientific community were working together and lots of science research jobs were created. We scientists had political support, the ear of government, big budgets, and we felt fairly important and useful (well, I did anyway). It was great. We were working to save the planet.

But since 1999 new evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming, and by 2007 the evidence was pretty conclusive that carbon played only a minor role and was not the main cause of the recent global warming. As Lord Keynes famously said, "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"

Not to me, Bucko. And I'm not even a "rocket scientist".

Science: First you start with a hypothesis then you set out to prove or disprove the hypothesis.

Words like “seemed” and “assumed” have no place in science, but I hear them all the time now.

The onus should be on those who want to change things to provide evidence for why the changes are necessary. The Australian public is eventually going to have to be told the evidence anyway, so it might as well be told before wrecking the economy.

There appears to be an ever increasing number of former "alarmists" who are starting to regain their senses. Bad news for Algore's bank account.

So many of these warmers seem not to pay attention to basic biology. Carbon is plant food. As atmospheric CO2 increases, green plants flourish because they have more food. As the number of green plants increases due to additional food supply, that food supply (CO2) is reduced, bringing everything into balance.

Seems obvious. Global warming (and cooling) have been cyclical for hundreds of thousands of years. While we have some suspicions we don't know what causes the cycles, although we now know pretty conclusively CO2 emissions do not.

But for the politics, this wouldn't be hard.

Man, are my siblings going to be upset!

They’re really in love with the agenda this fraud supports.

The focus was on CO2 from the beginning because that provides the excuse for draconian controls on carbon as it relates to energy sources that drive western economies. Kill the energy sources and the economies die. The socialists don't care about the facts. It is all about destroying western capitalist economies that are sensitive to energy costs.

This is the part about the attempts at correcting the data to make it fit that bothered me more than anything else that has been done;

“When the signature was found to be missing in 2007 (after the latest IPCC report), alarmists objected that maybe the readings of the radiosonde thermometers might not be accurate and maybe the hot spot was there but had gone undetected. Yet hundreds of radiosondes have given the same answer, so statistically it is not possible that they missed the hot spot.

Recently the alarmists have suggested we ignore the radiosonde thermometers, but instead take the radiosonde wind measurements, apply a theory about wind shear, and run the results through their computers to estimate the temperatures. They then say that the results show that we cannot rule out the presence of a hot spot. If you believe that you’d believe anything.”

Doesn’t change the fact that it is a scam.

I would say pay off to Al Gore.

The Australian public is eventually going to have to be told the evidence anyway...

Not if the grubbing leftist politicians and their partners at the mainstream media 'Ministry of Truth' have anything to say about it.

Presenting evidence is so 19th Century anyway. What is important today is presenting feelings and noble intentions. < /s >

Sounds to me like this bloke is trying to cover his B hind.

Talk about a blowhard...

And, he knew or should have known better... but those governments and big budgets for research put stars in his eyes.

Finally and forever... 4th grade science --> the sun is responsible for climate change... not enough... Meteorology 101 states the same FACT.

Exile Al Gore NOW...

I remember back when I got all caught up in the Y2K Scare. Everything was supposed to go to hell one minute after midnight on December 31, 1999. I was pretty concerned about it, so I put together some contingency planning to deal with the emergency.

My plan was that if I were to get hungry on New Year’s Day, I would go to the Kroger grocery store and get me a couple of steaks.

Imagine my embarrassment when it all turned out to be a bunch of hooey. I had done all that planning for no good reason.

Nevertheless, since it is better to be safe than to be sorry, I have constructed an even more elaborate plan to deal with Global Warming:

If it gets too hot, I will adjust to thermostat on my AC to accomodate. As an emergency back-up plan, I will take a dip in the pool if necessary. Ice chests with refreshing adult beverages will be stationed nearby.

"But since 1999 new evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming"

Let me correct that for you, sir:

"But since 1999 new evidence our failure to continue the cover up of the real evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming"

Disappointing and irresponsible. I went out and got the steaks - it's a win-win-win solution. I had food in case civilization collapsed for several hours, I had food when it turned out to be a bunch of bologna, and I got to irritate PETA. I have the same solution for global warming, weekly steaks, so I'll be ready whether or not it's a bunch of hot air.
