McCain ad targets Obama inaction on NATO panel

Sen. John McCain's campaign on Friday announced its first negative campaign ad of the general election that accuses Democratic opponent Sen. Barack Obama of failing to do his duty as chairman of a subcommittee charged with oversight over NATO, which leads war operations in Afghanistan.

"Barack Obama never held a single Senate hearing on Afghanistan," the ad's announcer says, adding that Mr. Obama is now changing positions on the success of the military surge in Iraq "to help himself become president."

Mr. Obama's campaign called the ad "patently misleading" and said it tarred Mr. McCain's calls for a campaign based on issues.

"Given his calls for a civil campaign, it's disappointing that Senator McCain has slipped so easily into the same, tired campaign tactics that have become so familiar to the American people," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Stating facts about the Obamamamessiah is considered a negative ad. Wow, since when is the truth a “negative attack ad”.

How could Obama support NATO when he doesn't even support the United States?

Boy it is gonna be a tough season for McCain, You can't run adds that tell the truth, you can't run adds that show what the Obamalator and his Mrs said, you cant run adds that ask him any tough questions like where Kentucky is located or how many states are in the union!!

This ad backfired, IMO.

McCain was already skewered in the press today. Here is one:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/07/hearing-gate-ex.html

ABC News’ Z. Byron Wolf reports from Capitol Hill: The McCain campaign criticism of Sen. Barack Obama’s hearing record on Capitol Hill led us to put the shoe on the other foot.

It turns out that presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain has attended even fewer Afghanistan-related Senate hearings over the past two years than Obama’s one. Which is a nice way of saying, McCain, R-Ariz., the top Republican on the Senate Armed Service Committee, has attended zero of his committee’s six hearings on Afghanistan over the last two years.

(snip)

But there’s a difference here between McCain and Obama, Obama is the chairman.

"Mr. Obama's campaign called the ad "patently misleading" and said it tarred Mr. McCain's calls for a campaign based on issues."

It's about judgement, which, if I recall correctly, Obama has stated is a MAJOR issue.

Not doing your job in the Senate is a real issue. And talking about what Obama does will almost always be negative, because he's done almost NOTHING positive.

I’m not sure how McCain could ATTEND fewer hearings than Obama chaired in his subcommittee, since Obama had NONE.

I guess they meant that there was a full committee hearing on Afghanistan which Obama attended and McCain did not.

But nobody cares who ATTENDS the stupid meetings. The point was that Obama was given a leadership position, and did NOTHING.

Wrong comparison (though I’m sure the MSM laps it up since they are whores for Obambi).

Obambi is CHAIRMAN of his subcommittee which has done absolutely zilch, and there is not the slightest evidence that Obambi has done ANYTHING or Afghanistan or Iraq or WOT outside of the moribund sub-committee, either.

OTOH, no honest person could question John McCain’s enormous dedication to visiting troops in the field (and in hospitals) many, many times, meeting with various commanders, working tirelessly on defense and military issues, etc.

The fact that John McCain may pass up some DEMOCRAT hearings chaired by the execrable, loathsome socialist ‘Rat Senator Carl Levin means nothing about McCain’s knowledge and dedication, since ‘Rat hearings in the past two years have been nothing but worthless propaganda sessions anyway.

The point is that Obambi knows nothing, does nothing, learns nothing. No one can possibly say anything similar of John McCain on military issues.
