Monegan says he was pressured to fire cop (MSM going after Sarah Palin)

Former Department of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan on Friday said that since Gov. Sarah Palin took office, members of her administration and family pressured him to fire a Palmer Alaska State Trooper to whom her sister was involved in a bitter child custody battle.

Monegan said phone calls and questions from the Palin administration and the governor's husband, Todd Palin, about trooper Mike Wooten started shortly after Monegan was hired and continued up to one or two months ago.

The governor herself also had a brief conversation with him about Wooten in February, Monegan said.

The new assertions from Monegan, who has been mostly silent on his abrupt firing July 11, conflict with what the Republican governor said earlier in the week. She said she never put pressure on

Key word here is former. Why do always these "pillars" of ethical behavior wait until they get fired to come up with this stuff? If his morality was bothered indeed he should have said this WHILE he was still on the job.

The reason is that the 527-MSM wants their chosen losers liberals on the ticket.

Not Guilty

There is but one logical choice.

The "Warrior and the Woman" (will Win BIG
attacting a large fraction of the pro-Hillary frustrated Democrat women.)

Shouldn't that read "with whom"?

And why is the time-reference in front of the verb ("on Friday said")? If we replace the title and name with a personal pronoun, we get "He on Friday said that..."

Wouldn't "Monegan said on Friday that.." be better?

Regards,

One has to read most of the article before finding out that the ex bro-in-law trooper is a real piece of work.

Illegally killed a moose, tasered an 11 year old, was collecting disability although healthy enough to operate a snowmachine. The ex wife (gov's sister) is afraid of him, and he apparently threatened the gov's father.

Gee I can't imagine why Palin's family doesn't like the guy.

I’d be more interested in finding out if the Obama machine is paying Monegan, or offering him a future job, to make this accusation against Gov. Palin. This certainly smells like Chicago Democrat politics.

He is “former” because he was FIRED by the Palin administration just a few days ago prompting all of this to come to light. No explanation was given for the firing. Instead of just waving pom poms with the beauty queen do some homework. Mr Monegan has an impeccable career as a law enforcement officer in Alaska. He did not come forward until the Palins responded to the news that they did not pressure him to abuse the power of his office. There is more to come out on this story and I think there will be a special investigation as there should be. The thin veneer of the Palin superiority is about to wear off. Even the Kalifornia based Anchorage newspaper is starting to relent and is today reporting on this.

Waving pom poms was never my thing :) so chill out. My point still stands, I always have had issues with ANYONE coming forward with allegations after they were no longer associated with their former employer (Scott McClellan comes to mind). Monegan should have come out with these issues while he was a commissioner instead of after his firing. It takes more courage (and I am not implying he lacks it) and it is the right thing to do to blow the whistle on unethical/illegal/immoral behavior by organizations while these actions are occurring.

It’s a local paper and a local story. Hardly a smear campaign.

Gee I can't imagine why Palin's family doesn't like the guy.

With a record like that it makes you wonder why anyone would have to apply pressure to fire the guy. I'd think he would have been history in the normal course of events. He certainly doesn't belong in a police uniform.

He is a poacher and a child abuser, so why should he be in law enforcement? I would not call that “impeccable”!

Sure you're not being just a leeetle paranoid on that? Palin isn't anyone but a governor of a state Obama has no chance of winning.

Anyone who read the entire story knows that the governor’s husband was involved in this thing, and admits meeting with Mongegan at least once. The incidents being discussed took place in 2005, and the governor took office in 2006.

The beginning of all this was a bitter divorce and custody case involving the governor’s sister. What is there even alleged that should not have been left to the courts and local law enforcement? Why is anyone associated with the governor mucking around in this situation, completely outside the channels where such things are normally handled?

Doesn’t look too good. Seems some are acting like they were elected royal family rather than merely being the family of the governor.

Strange definition you have of an impeccable career as a law enforcement officer.  Must be a Romney supporter.

What the heck is wrong with you people? Don’t you read before you post? Monegan and Wooten are two different people. Monegan wasn’t pressured to fire himself, and he wasn’t married to the governor’s sister.

Read, people read!

Better read it again freeplancer. The brother in law of the gov was called a poacher and a child abuser not Mr. Monegan. It was Walt Monegan I referred to as a impeccable and who refused to fire a trooper under pressure from Palin. For the record if you are interested the poached moose was butchered by Palin’s father and distributed and eaten among the Palin family. It was only two years later when the Palin family brought it up. Not much hypocrisy there right? As for Taser incident you might want to read up on that too. Not too smart but it was not how it was presented. Remember the Palin family filed over thirty complaints against the brother in law, all of which were investigated and only two were found to have any merit.

Smacks of same old Ak politics.

Honestly though, Alaskans have been watching for years Palin's own Republican Party's attempts at destroying her future. Why do you think she received 50% of vote to the incumbent Murkowskies 17% in the primary several years back? I think the people of Alaska will give Palin the benefit of doubt, reason being she for the most part has been cleaning up years of Repub corruption & filth, no joke it was bad up here. Heck, I was wondering if all the Repubs were heading off to the big house, nobody wants to see the Dems coming back in power. The Repubs are scared of Palin because she forces them to be accountable to the people, honest, and is such a breath of fresh air from all the Repub corruption over the last 10 years.

People up here will give her a pass on this family dirty laundry. If the Repubs try to do to Palin what they have done in the past; there will be hell to pay in November and you'll see Repubs heading to warmer climates. The only people who hate Palin up here, are the other Politicals.

More important than the Gas Pipeline(s) at the moment. Might be as many as four pipeline projects at the moment, each ignoring the others and only two with anything like State approval.

'Gee, you are not biased are you? "

Not biased, just informed. I live in Alaska in the town where Sarah used to be a mayor. I have followed her career and have been involved in it regrettably. I supported her, contributed the maximum amount to her campaign and voted for her. The more I leaned about her the more disappointed I have become. I know some of the characters involved and did not just read this in the local news. BTW, the local paper is a McClatchey paper owned and run from Sacramento. They have steadfastly adored and supported Sarah until forced to run this story by a local blogger. Why do you think a Kalifornia paper would so adore Sarah if she is such a strong republican?

McClellan was a twit looking to cash in on his boss by selling out to the left. To put him in the same category with Monegan is wrong. I don’t think Monegan would have come out with the story if the gov had not denied the allegations that involved him. He initially refused to comment. While I agree with you about back stabbers like Scotty boy I just want to point out that what is going on here in Alaska is in no way similar. If this has been painted as a disgruntled employee seeking revenge on his employer then it a travesty created by our friends in the MSM.

But didn’t she 1) show character in rebuffing the advance of the former classmate in the hotel bar, 2) solve the crime, 3) shoot the dirtbag, 4) arrest him single-handedly, 5) transport him to jail, and 6) all while in her third trimester of pregnancy?

Give me a doer over a sound biter any day.

Not to mention that according to Halcro's blog, the only complaints filed against Wooten during his 8 years as a trooper came from the Palin family. Funny no one else in the community noticed this "rogue" trooper in their midst.
