BERLIN (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told a German magazine he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months.

In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible.

"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes."

And countless scoffers here who predict a McCain landslide, still refuse to believe that the Press still has the power to manipulate the outcome of Public opinion.

Mark my words, they will spin this around to their advantage and Obama will get the credit. This is also why he is on World tour, to give the impression how well the entire World will love us again with him in office.

We ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.

Given the fact that the AP misrepresented Maliki’s prior remarks on this issue and never actually corrected it (the BBC did), I will wait until I have a source that is more credible.

You may be right to do that. But I think this is the real deal. And it's the beginning of the Obama love-fest in the Middle East.

>i> Obama was against helping Iraq from the beginning! How soon everyone forgets, now that we have almost completed the job.

Typical dhim move, try and take credit for anything good despite the fact what ever they try never works, yet the sheeple will follow them over the cliff.

Let’s just go ahead and pull out now. The first ones to likely die will be the leaders like this idiot. Let them have a civil war. Let them die. Screw them.

Maliki did not say this. It was a mistranslation and the filthy commies have continued to lie about it.

Believe it or not you can find it on the BBC.

Maybe Israel will call out what Obama is really all about.

But all of those people who live and die by who does well on American Idol or Survivor will eat it right up without questioning it.

If the media says it, it has to be true, right?

" Wait and see: Obama is going to declare victory in Iraq, and say we need to withdraw now."

Nah. Bush beat him to that. Obama will declare that nation building is complete and go on to get AQ and Bin Laden dead or alive. But if McCain is elected, he will say the same thing. No matter who is elected, it is 'out of there' by the midterm election of 2010 when the motto will be 'it's the economy stupid'.

Frankly, I hope we can pull our troops within 16 months, at least out of the actual operations.

Obama wanted to pull troops 16 months from two YEARS ago, meaning he wanted them all out by March of 2008.

Now he’s only saying 16 months because he thinks that shows a measured pace of withdrawal (and it’s probably about as fast as we could reasonably pull the troops out and still keep the remaining ones safe).

At SOME point, Obama will be “right” about 16 months. It’s like waking up every morning and saying someone is going to die today. Eventually you will be right, but it doesn’t mean you have a clue.

I'm not so sure, Fox. But I value your opinion. So let's keep our eye on this and see which way it goes. If I were the PM of Iraq, I'd be hedging my bets given the fickleness of the American voter. When it came right down to it, what percentage of us believed that we had to see this through to success and that we could do that if the President didn't turn tail. Thank God he did not.

I'm going back to an interview with Russert and Hillary. I believe we had just rolled into Iraq.

Hillary stated: It has been the policy of the Dem Party to take out Saddam. They wanted to claim this was their war from the beginning and the victory would be theirs.

AND THEY ALL VOTED FOR THE WAR.

In 1949 our troops pulled out of S. Korea, 4 years after freeing it.

In 1950, when the unstable and militarily weak S. Korea was invaded and occupied by Communist N. Korea, Truman sent our military back to S. Korea to free it.

Truman said he was merely sending our men to fight a "police action" against "bandits," but, in reality, 30,000 Americans died in Korea in the remaining 30 months of Truman's presidency.

How about ungrateful ingrate?

We should call Maliki's bluff, and order a strick 16-month withdraw timeline. (not really, but...).

Then, as the 16 month drop dead date gets closer, Maliki will start peeing his pants at the thought of the Iraqi's having to protect HIM without American help.

Perhaps it would teach him to never trust the likes of Obama and the Democratic fantasy machine.... ever again.

"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes."

If this is a true quote, then I suspect most highly that Marxist Obama's operatives got to him.

The timing is especially "convenient", what with Marxist Obama's visit.

Could there be a few million $s and a villa in the south of France (the land of ingrates) for Mister Maliki?

This is a question for Marxsist Obama.

Here’s the Der Spiegel article/interview with Maliki. Sure enough on the second page Maliki throws Bush under the bus. SOB!

I guess I see it like this: whether Maliki said this or not, it’s what he believes. I think he believes this thing is over, and that Iraq is now in position to fully take care of themselves. Of coarse he wants enough of our troops around just in case he’s wrong, but each day that goes by gives him confidence in the idea that Iraq is self sufficient.
