Obama's aides furious at McCain for blabbing about Dem's Mideast trip
New York Daily News ^ | July 19th 2008, | KENNETH R. BAZINET/DAVID SALTONSTALL

Posted on 07/19/2008 8:04:30 AM PDT by vietvet67

For weeks now, Barack Obama has closely guarded the details of his planned fact-finding trips to Afghanistan and Iraq, citing security concerns.

But Friday, the Democratic presidential hopeful's Republican rival, John McCain, may have let the secret out of the bag - infuriating some Obama supporters and putting Camp McCain on the defensive.

"I believe that either today or tomorrow - and I'm not privy to his schedule - Sen. Obama will be landing in Iraq with some other senators" who make up a congressional delegation, McCain told a campaign fund-raising luncheon. "I am sure that Sen. Obama is going to arrive in Baghdad in a much, much safer and secure environment than the one that he would've encountered before we started the surge," McCain added.

While refusing to confirm or deny anything about Obama's schedule, his aides were furious with McCain's comment. They noted every major news outlet has resisted speculating on the timing or location of Obama's war-zone maneuvers out of safety concerns.

As of late Friday, it remained unclear if McCain's information is correct.

Former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, a decorated Vietnam vet and big Obama backer, said he was "surprised" by McCain's apparent breach of protocol.

"I've been around enough of these trips to know that I'm leery of saying anything for security reasons. End of story," Kerry told the Daily News.

Aides to McCain insisted their boss wasn't saying anything that hadn't been publicly reported. They pointed to a Baghdad dispatch Friday afternoon from MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, who indicated Obama would be arriving in Iraq "shortly," although she explicitly did not mention any specific days.

It has been all over the news, since the broadcast news anchors are on board.

They haven’t kept it a big secret.

I heard one radio news item report that they were ‘in the air’.

Now, Team Obama whine about the information getting out????

What a bunch of babies. LOast I heard, al-Qaeda and Hezbollah are pro Obambi for president supporters. What are they worried about?

Not to mention, Hillary is tanned and rested and ready to go.

So wait, the old media can announce troop movements, CIA operatives names, internal top secret memos and national secrets, but we’re not supposed to know about a muslim candidate going to the middle east?

Somehow it doesn’t add up.

Maybe McCain should reiterate to the Iraqi people that this is Obama, the former Muslim teen, who brags about converting to Christianity and who feels offended when anybody suggests he is Muslim, will soon be visiting their cities amidst his campaigning to rule over the armed forces occupying their nation.

Because there is nothing of substance that the Odumbo campaign cares to mention out loud (or, they have to backtrack from it whenever they slip and do mention it) it is important for them to express their “outrage” every chance they get. By November people are going to be numb to this—if they aren’t already.

And by criticizing McCain they only confirmed his speculation. Thus showing Obama’s folks lack of security awareness to either not commenting at all to protect Obama’s schedule or saying the old “I neither confirm nor deny the information.” “known as the “Glomar Defense” under FOIA law.

But BO’s arrival in Afghansitan is in the news this morning.

Democrats couldn’t get away with half of what they do if they hadn’t the MSM in pocket.

McCain should not have qualified Obama’s arrival time as “either today or tomorrow”. Enough to just say he was going since it was common knowledge, just that he was going. Not necessary to pinpoint it so specifically.

However, the specific knowledge will have put Al Qaida in a difficult position. Should they take the opportunity to off an American politician, or should they arrange a parade and marching band of Muslim terrorists to greet and cheer Obama on? What to do, what to do . . .?

There’s a lot of security involved when they have to move that teleprompter to new locations. I would think anyone would know Obama’s next venue just by following the teleprompter movements.

You know, “where’s the teleprompter now? Kabul! Oh okay, Obama will be going there next.”

Liberals are constantly doing and saying things that endanger our troops and even our nation. Now with the prophet on his way to get a few photo ops and to confirm his prejudices about Southwest Asia, Iraq, and al Qaeda we're all to accept the claptrap that McCain has endangered the young know-it-all by stating what everyone knows. He's going to Afghanistan and Iraq (been a few hours in the former now). These Liberals are the same people who don't want SDI, don't want to annoy the terrorists at Gitmo, don't want to stop the mad mullahs from getting nuclear weapons, don't support our troops in Iraq whenever there is a chance to smear them as murderers (Murtha, for example), don't mind the New York Times exposing what our spies know or our nation's secrets, and don't want to have the best weapons available for our nation.

Well the WHINE is working. Everyone is talking about the the “whine” and no one is talking about the substance of what John McCain said. Obama is going to Iraq in safety because of the military surge which he said would not work. If Obama had had his way , troops would now be out of Iraq and civil war chaos would prevent him or anyone else from traveling to Iraq.
The “whine” was calculated and it has worked.
