Murray: U.S. Oil Reserve Should be Used
Web India 123 ^ | 07.19.2008 | UPI

Posted on 07/19/2008 10:10:10 AM PDT by Coffee200am

Congressional Democrats want the United States to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help bring down oil prices, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray said Saturday.

Murray said during the Democrats' weekly radio address that with gasoline prices reaching new highs, it is time to use the emergency reserves and urge oil companies to drill on leased federal lands.

We believe it's time for the oil companies to use that land and to make sure that it stays in America instead of shipping it to the highest bidder overseas, Murray said.

Democrats also think it is time to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Right now we have more than 700 million barrels of oil sitting underground in Texas and Louisiana that can be used in times of emergency.

Murray also called for increased regulation of energy trading, which she contends is being affected by speculators seeking to profit from rising oil prices.

Democrats, she said, believe we must rein in Wall Street and traders who are unfairly driving up oil prices.

With regard for nothing but their own profits, some traders are bidding up oil prices by buying huge quantities of oil just to resell at an even higher price, she said.

I have said it before and I will repeat it. President Bush has four months left until the election. He should call the bluff of these idiotic Dimocrats. He should release 25% of the reserve each month until it is empty and then let the Messiah deal with it. In the meantime he could be blasting the idiots by saying he is doing all he can to lower the price of oil including the removal of the drilling ban.

He should just play tough.

Using our emergency oil, that will bring down prices. But drilling, no, you can’t drill your way to lower prices.

These guys are geniuses.

Tap the STRATEGIC oil reserve because spoiled Americans have to cut back on their casino visits, cellphone usage, and other highly elective pursuits? Does you have any concept of the meaning of the adjective “strategic”?

oil’s down $15 per barrel since Monday’s Presidential announcement. (I bet he would have made it earlier if he hadn’t had to go meet with greenie-weenie G-8’s last week). Since the drilling ban has to be re-upped by Congress by September 30, and that won’t happen, oil’s going to slide to its true price fast , right?

The emergency is having a Congress which sits on its collective ass and does nothing. The reserve holds about 45 days of oil. Tell me the emergency that can happen to completely stop oil imports. I still say go ahead an draw it down and dare Congress to say it fixed anything. Let the Chosen One then have to deal with it.

"Patti Murray: U.S. Oil Reserve Should be Used"

Murray would've issued this press release days ago, like Pelosi and Reid, but spare parts for the obsolete 380 chip that occupies her brain had to be located. They finally found them in a tribal librarian's office in rural Mongolia, and rushed them to the US,

Just kidding. But Murray hasn't had an original thought in her life.

You should see the brand new holes they are punching in the ground out here. I thought the Kern River Oil field was done for, but from what I can tell, it must not have been economically feasible to extract some of it until the recent run-up in prices.

“We believe it’s time for the oil companies to use that land and to make sure that it stays in America instead of shipping it to the highest bidder overseas, Murray said.”
To date it has proven very difficult to ship land overseas no matter how high the bid. So I expect efforts to keep the leased land in America to be successful.

Hey Patty!
What part of “Strategic” don’t you understand?

The SPU is there in the event that America’s access to oil is cut off.
It is NOT for temporary and theorhetical, political manipulation!

The oil markets will NOT perceive any SPU release any type of remedy. Therefore, NO IMPACT ON PRICES AT THE PUMP!

This is different than authorizing offshore oil leases which is, in fact, strong evidence of increasing supply.

What part of the below statements do the Democrats not understand?

1) Increased domestic production reduces oil imports.

2) Reduced oil imports reduces the trade deficit.

3) Reduced trade deficit strengthens the dollar.

4) Strong dollar lowers world wide crude oil prices.

ECON 101

The democrats claim that drilling will not help our situation, yet they want to release the SPR. Which is it? Increase supply or increase supply?

It is said that the strategic oil reserves by used. It might be considered noteworth that this oil, which represents about 33 days of USA usage, is in subsalt dome caverns (in the ground) in 4 different places...in Winnie, Texas, Freeport, Texas, Baton Rouge, Louisianna, and Lake Charles, Louisiana. In order to access this oil we have to pump it from the undergound salt dome caverns. Yet the dems say we cannot pump from known existing sites. They want to 'replenish' the oil taken from these strategic oil reserves. Will it take more than 5 years to replenish this oil....if so, isn't that taking a terrible risk with our national security, and if not, why can't oil be quickly moved to 'another site' other than the four storage facilities mentioned to say a refinery to be processed to benefit the American people? It seems Ms.Murray wants us to forget other aspects of the problem and remember what she wants us to remember.

So which is it Murray....take a risk with national security reserves only to be replenished 5 years later OR replenish quickly, within days or weeks which begs the question, "why not just move that oil to refineries". Someone is not being truthful, Ms.Murray, and it seems to be the democrats.

On one of the earlier 'reserve drawdowns' perpetrated by Democrats, ostensibly to drive down home heating oil prices for the winter, it turned out that the Dems forced this oil to be brokered by 'minority' oil-middlemen.

What they ended up with was one 'connected' minority (African American) who became an oilman overnight, worked his deals from his apartment, and promptly sold it on the open market overseas -- he made a killing, and the heating oil for the northeast Dem consituents got squat. Bwaaaaahaaaaaa, don't you just love it?

I think both the US and Europe should release each half a million barrel of oil a day for the next 6 months to a year. I think Europe has as much strategic oil reserve as the US. In the meanwhile the Congress ban on oil drill will expire on September 30 2008 and because President Bush already removed the executive ban on drilling and because there is over 95% chance that Congress would not have the vote to renew the ban then oil companies will be able to drill starting on October 1 2008 inland and offshore of the US.

Also new regulations should be enacted to prevent crazy oil speculations. Speculators must pay 50% down for the oil they are buying and not just 5%. They also should not forecast for more than 2 months.

Ms. Murray is one of those [millions of] liberals that believes that “electricity” comes from a plug in the wall. And not from power plants fueled by coal, oil, natural gas, or nuclear power.

She also seems to think that “crude oil” comes from “reserves” in the ground. And not from contraptions called “oil wells”, be they on land or on sea.
