For the first time, they will receive performance-related pay according to the results they achieve on the operating table, with levels dependent on how well patients recover.
Leading surgeons said that this could deter doctors from taking on higher-risk patients, such as the frail and elderly, and from carrying out complex operations.

lol, sounds like grammar school
How many patients have to die before doctor gets an F?
Then I should be given a bonus for just showing up in the morning. It's their freaking job! Now if they went above and beyond that I wouldn't have a problem with it, but this is just freaking ridiculous.
We get graded pass / fail.
The Law of Unintended Consequences in action:
The surgeon that loads up his O.R. schedule with young, healthy patients wanting low risk, elective surgery gets a financial reward and the surgeon that takes on the high risk train wrecks takes a financial hit.
"Too fat? Too old? Diabetic? Heart problems? Complicated case?"
"Sorry. Go see the surgeon that parks his Honda Civic next to my Jaguar in the Doctor's Parking Lot."

There is one benefit. It might actually help to lower Muslim doctor killing sprees...
The officials coming up with this idiocy are the same ones that encourage doctor to refuse certain care, including many surgeries, to tobacco product users.
Anyone who thinks socialized medicine is such a nifty idea should be made to spend some time in a country that has it.
This is a bad idea.
There are movements afoot similar to this in the US. Insurance companies are now expecting hospitals to pay for treatment of infections that occur after an operation.
These infections do occur from time to time.
Now, what’s going to start happening with hospital administrators start pushing doctors to discharge patients immediately after surgeries. Afterall, the patient can just come back in if they develop signs of an infection and be readmitted....
Every action has consequences.
Personally, I think they should do the way they did back in the day. If you die they don’t get paid, if you live they do. I would add that if they f*** you up to the point you aren’t worth a sh** they won’t get paid either. That is the only performance pay I advocate. As it is, they will stop taking patients that might be iffy and let them die without a doctor rather than lose their performance pay!
link died for some reason
