Why McCain Must Win
canadafreepress.com ^ | 07/19/08 | Bruce Walker

President McCain in 2000 I must be one of the few conservative writers in cyberspace who never feared a McCain presidency. When Senator McCain looked like he might win the Republican nomination in 2000, I asked what, exactly, my friends were so worried about. McCain was honest, like Bush, while Clinton and Gore were steeped in moral slipperiness. McCain was pro-life, like Bush, while Clinton and Gore were pro-abortion. McCain, like Bush, supported a strong military, while Clinton famously “loathed” the military and Gore followed him like a trained poodle. McCain’s ACU (American Conservative Union) voting record is conservative and was even more conservative in 2000. Who did I favor for the nomination in 2000? Bush, because I liked him more and I thought he would win, but was I afraid of a McCain presidency? No, I was afraid that the nation could not survive a third Clinton term. Has anything happened in the last eight years to change my mind? Not, not really. September 11, 2001 has driven all politics since then, even energy (remember how recently gasoline was cheap?) and while I can conceive of McCain handling the war on terror differently, in some ways, than Bush, I cannot see either man being particularly better than the other. Although we are sometimes loath to admit it, McCain appeared more prescience than Bush on Iraq: McCain supported the Surge, asked for the Surge when Bush was reluctant, and McCain was dead right. The Left would have vilified President McCain just as it vilified President Bush and for the same reasons: It wants America to lose all its wars.

I don’t like McCain at all, but I’m beginning to agree with the author. Obama has shown himself, and I believe an Obama Administration would be a complete and total disaster that could take a generation to correct. Sure, McCain believes in amnesty for illegals, among other things I detest, but with Obama I will get those things and much much more.

(it may be getting time to change my tagline)

Well, that is the worry of many conservatives: that the only way to make McCain look conservative is to compare him to immoral marxists, and ignore his tendency to enjoy working with the marxists over conservatives in Congress.

Five Choices

1.) Vote for Green Party
2.) Vote for BHO
3.) Vote for McCain
4.) Write In
5.) Stay Home

# 3 SOUNDS LIKE THE SAFEST TO ME

So, voting for a candidate because he sucks slightly less than another candidate is the ‘mature’ thing to do? BTW, I’m not planning on voting for Obama, so who does that count for? I have to ask because I didn’t get the Happy Meal with the election vote counter decoder ring like the McCainiacs.

McCain at WORST is about 50%.

Yep... I agree... 4 years of Hussein should bring about the rise of true conservatism again. McCain will destroy the United States quietly, and we’ll go like lambs. With Hussein, at least people will get mad and fight back...

Fine. You can support a candidate that is a fifty percenter, yet you want to call a conservative immature for disagreeing with your choice. That makes abundant sense.

You won’t be able to get cities back after hussein guts the military/intelligence on a scale that clinton could only dream of..

At least we know McCain won’t do that stuff. That *alone* makes it worth voting for him. If you gotta have a 100% rightwinger or nothing, that’s incredibly childish.

“obama is THE MOST LIBERAL SENATO”

Think of what he would do to the Supremes? If he is elected, say good bye to the Second Amendment. He is rabidly pro-abortion. He would gut the military in time of war.

Sure McCain is a weeny, but at least he is pro-Military and wouldn't trash the nation outright with stupid socialized medicine.

Liberals in Canada and Europe are begging US voters to elected BHO so they won't be alone in the land of nanny statism where Big Brother knows best.

Uh, no... his voting record and the bills he's authored support him being someone that will destroy the United States every bit as much as Hussein. Fact... you can't argue with his record... McCain is a huge, stinking liberal, that no conservative can stand to vote for.

Look folks, Hussein is dangerous and I'm terrified as is my wallet of him, but what I know is that the people of the United States will rise up against him and vote in true conservatives in 4 years. With McCain, we'll lose the same stuff, but give it up willingly.

Conservatives and those that love America will not vote for Hussein OR McStupid.

The only thing we can do this year is nominate a true conservative. McCain seems to be leaning towards another America hating scumbag liberal, Mitt Romney, as his VP running mate... if this doesn't show you McStupid's true colors, I don't know what will.

Here’s what I said to another Obama enabler on another thread; I believe it applies to most of them:

I like McCain about as much as I like a punch in the nose. But Obama is a different story. McCain is a liberal but Obama is a Marxist. It’s like choosing between JFK and Krushchev.

The refusal to vote for McCain is purely emotional. You’ve made it all about yourself and and your perfectionist view of who you should vote for, according to an idealized image of yourself. That tells us who has to get over what.

LOL - 2006 happened because people percieved no difference in the two parties and voted for the one acting Liberal and not claiming to be otherwise. 2008 is likely to be a worse result because the Liberal Republicans took the wrong lesson from 2006.

Absolutely wrong if you go back and look at the exit polling and other post mortem data. Intuitively first: if the 100% Conservatives taking their marbles and going home were to blame, why did so many heroes of that same group go down in flames? It was the Reagan Democrats and other Social Conservatives that saw no difference between the two parties, much like the two head candidates this year, and they voted for the newer or more genuine Liberal.
