The gas crisis threatens to cripple our economy because our nation’s leaders have failed to move America toward energy independence. The first vital step is to expand our domestic capacity. The President has lifted the Executive Order banning additional offshore oil drilling, but Congress continues to drag its feet.

Grassfire is launching this National Petition demanding that Congress lift the legislative and funding ban on Offshore Oil Drilling BEFORE the August recess.

No Summer Holiday For Congress Unless The Offshore Drilling Ban Is Lifted!

Congress’ month-long summer recess is scheduled to begin August 9. Join tens of thousands of citizens who are demanding action by Congress BEFORE they break for summer. In fact, Grassfire is asking members of Congress to PLEDGE to stay in session this summer until the life on offshore drilling ban is passed.

Petitions will be delivered every Monday to Republican and Democratic leadership in Congress. Sign today and demand that the ban is lifted before the Summer Recess.

Well over a million signed Newt’s. These petitions are useless. Congress ignores them.

Our Congress has a “Screw them” attitude towards us.

The good news is that during the summer recess Congress can’t screw anything else up (hopefully).

They don't ignore the will of the people when they speak out loudly enough. That's exactly what happened when Congress critters backed down on granting amnesty for illegal aliens twice last summer. The same can happen by pressuring Congress critters to support tapping into all our available resources. Congress critter ping!

During the Middle Ages (not sure of EXACT date), a conclave was held to select the next Pope. After a year, there had been no decision. The people banded together and tore the roof off the building, exposing the cardinals within to the elements. Then they cut off all food and water.

Needless to say, a decision was reached rather quickly.

Perhaps, our august and imperial governors (not resentatives any more)need a dos of the same to let them know who’s really in charge.

The ONLY thing that MIGHT motivate the self-serving
in Congress is a new Constitutional amendment which directs
the American people to select, then publicly execute,
the worst of them each year.

Reminds me of former GE CEO Jack Welch’s approach. Every year, drop the 10% least profitable divisions.

I am willing to sign the petition, but have heard that on line petitions have no effect on Congress. True or not??

While I of course agree with drilling, I’m getting annoyed by even the good guys casting the debate in “lift the ban” terms. The ban doesn’t need to be “lifted” because it expires on Sept 30 on its own. The proper way to cast the debate is “Tell the d@mn donks not to renew the ban!”

The way a debate is cast can have a significant impact on its outcome. Lets start pushing for it to be cast in the proper way!

At the very least it can't hurt but more likely it can only help. Congress critters backed down twice last summer when the people spoke loudly enough in their opposition to granting amnesty for illegal aliens. Petitions were at least part of that process. There is no reason to assume they will have no effect with convincing Congress to lift the offshore the oil drilling ban.
