Why has China bought Mugabe a mansion?
UK Telegraph ^ | July 20 2008 | Christopher Booker

may not be surprising that, as befits any mad dictator, President Mugabe is now the proud owner of a palatial £4.5 million mansion in Harare and a similarly lavish country hideaway, each fitted with the latest electronic security systems, including anti-aircraft missiles.

But why should all this have been provided for him by the People's Republic of China?

The explanation lies in a deal struck in 2005 whereby Mr Mugabe handed over to China his country's mineral rights, including the world's second largest reserves of platinum, worth £250 billion.

For the sake of the Zimbabweans, it would be better if China just took over now and got rid of Mugabe and his murderous henchmen.

At least China is learning what a market system is like and wouldn’t be stupid enough to try to print more money to fight inflation.

All those Americans who favored MFN for Red China should be so proud. Look what all their new prosperity enablers them to do. And, let’s be honest here, this would not have been possible without all those trade (jobs for cheap labor) arrangements with the USA. Now, the Chinese have billions to pursue all sorts of national goals.

And, how are those programs to develop weapons and tactics to defeat US aircraft carrier groups coming along? They’ve sure got lots of new technology to work with.

What’s our trade deficit with China now? $200 billion plus?

Shades of the movie "Dogs of War"....

So where in the heck is Bob Geldof and Paul Hewson berating the Communist Chinese dictatorship for not providing more aid to the starving and poor Africans.

And here in this country we have the empty suit candidate that wants to spend billions more of our tax dollars to fight poverty overseas while the Communist Chinese prop up the dictatorial governments who have more to do bringing poverty to their citizens than any other factor.

Oh, stop it...we're Americans...we don't have to deal with reality!

We can spend and spend and devalue the dollar and borrow and spend some more and it doesn't mean a thing!

Talk about colonial exploitation of the native Africans!

Heck, they could have been giving the US debr relief for our efforts in their own backyard after the tsunami. They could be sending troops to Iraq.

I think that President Bush ought to hold a press conference to brag to the American people about the mineral rights our borrowing from the Chinese bought them! (Note that China has few mineral resources itself, so this is a huge shot in the arm for them, and it means that we can see further progress in China to compete with us.

Oh, it's not so bad. Mugabe got lots of weapons in return. >sigh<

On the positive side, it seems like some people are finally waking up.

Good point......as well any attack on Mugabe now will be looked at as an attack on a China resource......he sold that country for the price of a lifetime party for him and his Zimbabwe zombie zoo of supporters. Only thing that will solve improve that 3rd world cesspool for now is a bullet to Mugabes noggin from one of his own citizens.

That rabid critter needs to be put down now !

Must be because of ...inflation... cause Mugabe got screwed.
Those Chinese are so inscrewtable.

A depopulated country, with rich farmlands and incredible mineral wealth ... what’s not to like, from China’s standpoint? They’re rewarding their “change agent” for a job well done.

“That rabid critter needs to be put down now ! “

That’s true, and it would have been justified at most any point in the past ten or more years.

And, we see that the wonderful Republic of South Africa still supports him, as do other African nations with only a couple of exceptions.

But if anyone wondered what sort of international citizen China would be once they had the cash to operate, well, now they know.

Didn’t Mubabe just issue a billion dollar bill? I understand that it can purchase about four oranges. (Sigh, I recently bought a few bills $500,000 and $750,000 on eBay for $19 US dollars).
