'100 months to save the planet'
A "Green New Deal" is needed to solve current problems of climate change, energy and finance, a report argues.
According to the Green New Deal Group, humanity only has 100 months to prevent dangerous global warming.
Its proposals include major investment in renewable energy and the creation of thousands of new "green collar" jobs.
The name is taken from President Franklin D Roosevelt's "New Deal", launched 75 years ago to bring the US out of the Great Depression.
The new grouping says rising greenhouse gas emissions, combined with escalating food and energy costs, mean the globe is facing one of its biggest crises since the 1930s.
Its members include former Friends of the Earth UK director Tony Juniper, Green MEP Caroline Lucas and Andrew Simms, policy director of the New Economics Foundation (nef).
In an article for the BBC News website's Green Room series, Mr Simms warns that the combination of the current credit crunch, rising energy prices and accelerating emissions are "conspiring to create the perfect storm".

This is mass madness.
Was their some mass tulip hysteria in Holland long ago?
We’re all going to need medication when they’re done with us.
Ayn Rand once said that these environmentalist catastrophes are always “about ten years away.” Close enough for concern, far enough so that if it doesn’t happen, people will forget who said it would.
Gotta keep people in a perpetual state of panic to get their agenda through.
Or a miracle.
The Blue Man Group could not be reached for comment.
That’s about what they said 100 months ago, isn’t it?
These people are starting to sound more and more like used car salesmen. “Act now—the offer is only good for today!!”.
8.3 years...hmm, wasn’t it about 5 years ago the EnviroTards claimed we had only 10 years.
Somebody needs to take remedial math.
You would think that people contemplating predicting doom on a certain date, due to this or that, would take a look at history. Then they might see just how stupid all the others before them predicting doom looked when the time came and went.
Funny stuff from a 5/7/08 Walter Williams Column....
At the first Earth Day celebration, in 1969, environmentalist Nigel Calder warned, "The threat of a new ice age must now stand alongside nuclear war as a likely source of wholesale death and misery for mankind." C.C. Wallen of the World Meteorological Organization said, "The cooling since 1940 has been large enough and consistent enough that it will not soon be reversed." In 1968, Professor Paul Ehrlich, Vice President Gore's hero and mentor, predicted there would be a major food shortage in the U.S. and "in the 1970s ... hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death." Ehrlich forecasted that 65 million Americans would die of starvation between 1980 and 1989, and by 1999 the U.S. population would have declined to 22.6 million. Ehrlich's predictions about England were gloomier: "If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000."

They don't have a friggin' clue, but their followers slop it up like hawgs at the trough.
Hey Al-when you go personally go “off the grid”- and can keep my cost per kwh at no more than 20% over what I’m paying now we’ll talk.
Hey Al-when you personally go “off the grid”- and can keep my cost per kwh at no more than 20% over what I’m paying now we’ll talk.
AGWers in a panic that the climate will become colder without society following ANY of their recommendations. If they don’t get some actions underway, they will not be able to claim success in 8+ years.
Until next year, anyway.
Does anyone remember when the Goracle was pushing waterless toilets?
http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/4/22/150901.shtml
snip
Former Vice President Al Gore joined the board of a waterless urinal company late last year (2003) to further the dry toilet cause and to help avert what many environmentalists believe is a looming international water crisis.

Primitive Worship
But Robert Bidinotto, publisher of ecoNOT.com and a critic of environmentalists, dismisses such notions as primitive-worship.
Incredibly, some environmentalists actually prefer that the foul messes we normally capture in diapers and landfills spill instead onto our linoleum, carpets and even our children, Bidinotto told CNSNews.com.
Paging Dr. Freud
Noting many greens opposition to flush toilets and now baby diapers, Bidinotto said environmentalists have a strange affinity for bodily wastes, and he believes they have become obsessed with toilet issues.

Hes just full of great ideas to save the universe!
One hundred months is also the duration of The Great Depression.
I think you nailed it. There is a panicked rush to do anything they recommended so they can they can claim a victory. If we do nothing and the planet cools on it’s own, they will be proven frauds, fools and con men.
It's going to fail because the promoters failed to close off free speech first.
(Though they tried).
This isn’t comparable to the Tulip bubble.
This is comparable to the apocalyptic year 1000 cults in Europe and England.
No matter what the reality the AGW zealots turn up the whine.
BBC has become such an intellectual toilet.
100 months - such a nice, even number. Wonder who got to throw the dart at the dartboard first?
I'm working on some wine. It seems to be working well for me.
In 100 months when nothing has changed, can we round up all these idiots and kick the living he77 out of them? Just asking.
In five years the global warming cultists will be living in armed compounds. Because of their unshakable belief that global temperatures are rising drastically, state authorities will be taking their children away because their kids aren’t being provided warm clothes in the dead of winter. (sarcasm)
Would somebody PLEASE tell me how to embed a photo in a post, so I can post that photo, Aw Jeez, not this sh*t again!”?
...Or, you can just do ot for me. ;-)
‘100 months to save the planet’ has the same intellectual gravity as ‘100 bottles of beer on a wall’.
It passes the time, and there is free grant money, so that’s a bonus!
Isn’t that the truth (ie medication)?
These freaking idiots want us to put trillions of dollars of investment in fossil fuel power systems (electricity, transportation, manufacturing, residential heating and cooling, et al) in the dumper and replace it with some vague and undefined “non-carbon” energy source. What do these loons exactly think this will do to energy prices and food prices?
This is entirely a fabricated “crises” of their own making.
The truth is that the planet is actually COOLING. Within a couple of years, it will be obvious to everyone and the watermelons’ chance to force a change in our lifestyle and revert us back to the 14th century will have passed. Thus their rhetoric gets more and more outrageous every day.
Did Gore put one of those dirt toilets in his mansion?
I’m eating the biggest steaks and drinking lots of beer while waiting for the sky to fall.
Didn’t you hear?
Global cooling is actually caused by global warming. So if it starts cooling off unexpectedly, that means we really screwed up the planet and better do something fast.
Hey, hey, why put off 100 months something we can start doing today? Look at it like a pre-season a$$ kicking, a little tune up for the real a$$ kicking season that begins in 100 months.;-)
No Smoking Hot Spot (The Australian)
That is a short and easily understandable article showing the plain truth. The hinge pin that links global temperature to the greenhouse effect is missing. It is easily measurable and hundreds of probes have done so.
