Liberal Bloggers Brace for Victory
The Washington Post ^ | Monday, July 21, 2008 | Jose Antonio Vargas

Posted on 07/20/2008 8:32:55 PM PDT by kristinn

"Yep, the way it's looking, we might actually win this thing . . ."

That's Markos Moulitsas talking, a.k.a. "Kos" to everyone here at Netroots Nation, the four-day liberal blogapalooza that ended Sunday at the Austin Convention Center. He's got a head cold, which explains his hoarse, strained voice, and by "we," he means the Netroots and their candidate of choice, Sen. Barack Obama. If the Netroots can be compared to high school -- still maturing, somewhat cliquish but definitely a community -- then Obama, as the presumptive nominee, had been voted Most Likely to Succeed.

SNIP

With the Dems taking back Congress in 2006 and the prospect of an Obama victory come November, many liberals are left in a precarious, ambiguous position. They remain influential, no doubt. The question is, who needs whom: Does Obama need the Netroots, or vice versa?

Kos, never one to mince words, is blunt.

"It's not a question of who needs whom. Fact is, the Netroots are not going to be the decisive factor," Kos says, fidgeting with his iPhone as he sits on a lounge chair at the Hilton, across the street from the convention center. "But having said that, we're an activist set of people: We're engaged, we give money, we put boots on the ground. That's why when many of us had a genuine disagreement with Obama on FISA" -- Obama voted for a bill that provided retroactive immunity to telecom companies -- "we let him know about it."

SNIP

As in any community, as in many high schools, Netroots can appear both self-segregating -- black bloggers at one table, Latinos at another and gays at the next -- and not diverse enough.

SNIP

"The Netroots are not going away. It's only going to get bigger," Guzman continues.

SNIP

Liberals are already talking about inevitability. And that breeds hubris.

Well, the race isn’t over until all the votes are counted. And all military personnel voting absentee had better be counted this time!

Have they noticed that Obama never did get a bump when Hillary stepped aside and that Obama has dropped seven (7) points in the polls since then?

Shhhhhhhh don’t tell them if they don’t already know. Most of all, is it me or are we having a lot of “Deja Vu” moments lately? I’m thinking the summer of 2004?

Well, let's see, hubris = pride, and pride cometh before the Autumn, er, fall. Whatever.

That's counting your chickens before Rev. Wright has come home to roost (in the fall).

Captain Queeg and the RNC are too chicken to talk about “Reverend” Wright. Or Hussein Obama’s Muslim ties. Or that he’s the most liberal member of the Senate. Or that he wants to raise taxes, confiscate guns, bring back the Fairness Doctrine... Our guys are chickensh*t and thats why Hussein Obama is getting a free ride. They aren’t even trying.

That's the thing about McCain. He makes it incredibly uncomfortable to be a Republican. But it just might work. If it does it will be the ugliest victory in the history of mankind. But there's something about the shear incompetence he portrays as a campaigner...it make you think...he may just pull this sucker out!

Well, that and the fact that I read the piece in The New Yorker on Obama - and you know he's a) made enemies and b) made alliances with very corrupt Illinois machine folks - and it's going to come back to bite him. Hopefully in time.

I think the left will crumble if he does it, they’re so sure this one is the bag.

seems to me there are a lot of soft numbers out there. Something like only a small percentage of whites view Obama favorably. He has had a lot of trouble in working states like Pen because he has a big patriotism problem. With the economy the way it is, the alphabet soup and nuts networks shelling for him and the Repubs poor performance he should be miles ahead at this point.

That is just nonsense and wishful thinking (I wish it were true). Unfortunately, Obama has lead solidly over McCain by large margins in every PA poll taken since May. At least so far there is no indication that what you are saying is true against McCain. It may have been true against Hillary.

A fair chance, yes. It's likely he'll need some help (Swift Boat type) because the RNC isn't going to do it.

As another poster pointed out, Obama should be way ahead now, especially with the high gas prices, struggling economy, etc. There's also the rumor that Obama does not debate well, but I suspect he has his canned speeches memorized, so we'll see.

McCain can do it without PA. Just when was the last Republican victory there anyway? If McCain does take that state, it will be as part of a blowout.

I'm glad I don't have to bet my life on this race, but if I did, I'd go with McCain. The odds of anything awful happening to his campaign (gaffs, revelations) are small. Barry, on the other hand... The debates, and whether Obama can survive them without looking like the pompous ass he is, will determine a lot. If he gets a bad case of the "Uh Uh Uh Uh" thing he's prone to, he's toast.

Actually McCain has called him the most liberal member in the senate and compared him to the Socialist form Vermont.
Naturally Matt Drudge DID NOT report the comments since he is the Obama media.
The Obama media ignored the comments since they were all packing for the Obama Media Rock star tour.

I disagree with that, Mad Jon went directly to Mitt’s backside over a timetable in Iraq during the Reagen Library Debate.

IMO McCain’s problem is the Obamao is sucking all of the air out of the room, he could say almost anything and the MSM will pretty much 10-22 it.

What McCain SHOULD be doing is shoring up his support among actual Republicans, and biding his time until the debates IMO.

Maybe they want BO to officially get the nomination before starting the fight ? I’m sure the GOP would rather face him than Hillary so they don’t want to do anything to derail BO yet.

That being said, they could indeed be doing much more right now even if it’s in warm-up mode.

Just three words: AND THEN WHAT?

Malcontents will always be malcontents.

Until their dream of turning America into a Utopian Socialist State is realized, they will never be happy. And when their dream comes true, and causes human suffering that cannot be imagined, those responsible will be long gone with only a sea of carnage as their legacy.

This is why we should not fear Onbama to the degree we do. His first two years will be spent doing the thing they all do best, blaming Bush as if Bush is still in power. Look at how little Pelosi and Reid have really achieved. Sure, they’ve continued lining their own pockets but have pretty much lost every major issue before it even got to a vote.

The key thing for us is, by 2010, to be working fastidiously and single-mindedly for a real conservative in 2012. Carter’s second term should be as easy to landslide into Oblivion as his first was. I see 2012 as the Year of the Jindal. We have to start working for CONSERVATIVE outcomes rather than whining about the commie taking over in D.C.

We need to be aligned around a conservative in 2010 and stop the hysteria. It’s conservatism that defeats communism, not liberalism (read, McCain).

There's one thing that Kos, the DUmmies and the Nutroots are overlooking or plain ignoring - the *Elephant In the Room*. That elephant is that liberal voters are like those in New Hampshire.

Going in Barry 'had a lock on winning' by every poll, but what happened behind the curtain? Barry only got 37%, Hillary won with 39% and Edwards got 17%. That's 56% for: 'the white guys'. In short, Liberal Dem voters are closeted racists.

Hillary danced around that point many times with her, 'Obama can't win the 'working class' voters', aka White People. Billy-Jeff did the same.

Barry will win solid blue states like IL, NY, NJ and Mass. There's no getting around Dem vote corruption and their machines. But in blue states where whites are a majority, like: Wis, Minn, Penn and Ohio look out. That old 'I ain't voting for a black guy' will rear its head and McCain will win those by default.

We know libs are phonies, that's already proved by how little the donate to 'the poor' (blacks). They're the same with their vote. In public they're holier than thou, but behind the voting booth curtain they're the KKK.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's right. 4 years of Hussein will give us the momentum we need to rid the GOP of the ultra liberals like McCain and get a real candidate in place by 2012.

Conservatism lost this election, but we should be in good shape for 2012.

I remember Ike and when I was 14 I volunteered for Goldwater. I certainly remember Johnson and the inept Carter.

In any case, I can’t control who wins the presidency this year, nor can the most passionate McCain enthusiast (an oxymoron?) control it. My suspicion is Odumbo will win. If so, we have to deal with it. It will take a coherent, organized conservative movement to defeat the onset of Marxism, and the time to get started is now—whether Odumbo wins or Hillary wins in 2012 after 4 inept McCain years.

We need to start facing reality: the Dems have become a Marxist political party and will eventually win the White House. What we REALLY can’t afford to do is run so scared that we depend on Alexander Karensky (aka liberal Republicans) to save us from Lenin (aka Odumbo, Hillary, whoever). It doesn’t work that way. Never has, never will.

You need a conservative to beat a commie.
