'Mishap' is a USAF term of art for losses. This is a class A mishap, because it involves the loss of an airframe, and possible loss of lives. Google USAF Mishap classifications for the different levels and thresholds.

7/21/2008 - ANDERSEN AFB, GUAM — A joint effort is underway continuing search and rescue operations to locate the aircrew of a B-52H Stratofortress that crashed off the northwest coast of Guam Monday.

At the time of the accident, the bomber deployed from Barksdale Air Force Base to Andersen AFB, was engaged in a training mission and was scheduled to perform a flyover celebrating Guam’s Liberation Day. There were no weapons or munitions aboard the aircraft. The B-52 was deployed to Andersen as part of the DoD’s continuous bomber presence mission in the Pacific.

The crew was reported missing at approximately 9:45 a.m. Monday. Immediate search and rescue efforts were initiated and continue. The U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, the Drug Enforcement Agency, Guam Fire and Rescue and Police Department are assisting in the rescue efforts.

Six Airmen were on board the aircraft. The status of the aircrew is unavailable at this time. A board of officers is investigating the accident. More information will be released as it becomes available.
