McCain's rejected New York Times op-ed piece (FULL TEXT, AS WRITTEN)
CNN ^ | July 21, 2008 | Sen. John McCain

Posted on 07/21/2008 11:52:24 AM PDT by FocusNexus

Here is the op-ed piece written by Sen. John McCain that the New York Times declined to run. The piece was released to CNN by the McCain campaign:

In January 2007, when General David Petraeus took command in Iraq, he called the situation "hard" but not "hopeless." Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80% to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation now is full of hope, but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains.

Progress has been due primarily to an increase in the number of troops and a change in their strategy. I was an early advocate of the surge at a time when it had few supporters in Washington. Senator Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent. "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there," he said on January 10, 2007. "In fact, I think it will do the reverse."

Now Senator Obama has been forced to acknowledge that "our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence." But he still denies that any political progress has resulted.

It's good that at least CNN published it. Now it actually gets more publicity.

“The piece was released to CNN by the McCain campaign”

And CNN didn’t spike it? They mustn’t have gotten the memo from the DNC.

So, Obama releases his "plan" for Iraq before talking to our military commanders or the Iraqis themselves. His plan is simply another regurgitation of what he has always proposed...a full and headlong retreat.

All of which the NYT publishes without question, but then refuses to publish the Republican rebuttal?.

Despite the fact that Obama would take an ajbect victory, which we are in the process of obtaining, defeating enemies intent on defeating us there and brining the fight here, which is creating a much better future, much mor eliberty, and self-determination for tens of millions of people...which could create a beacon of hope and liberty in an area that has never known it, and in the process destroying tens of thousands of our abject enemies...he would take all of that and throw it to the wind in a perverse effort to get himself elected.

Obama is a self centered, marxist power monger and his true colors are showing more and more each day.

Not only would he betray the people we have liberated, not only would he betray our own long term interests and security here at home, but he would also abjectly betray the brave men and women volunteers who have sacrficed, suffered, bled, and died to make these gains possible.

The word of who Obama really is and what he represents MUST spread and it is we who must spread it because the MSM and the DNC are complicit in the lies regarding him.

This is clearly McCain’s strength (seemingly one of few, if you’re a conservative).

...or searching for family (or familiarity) in PLO territory...?

I guess that years and years of backstabbing Conservatives for sake of getting some print in the New York Times didn’t pay off.

Are you kidding? It was probably their idea, since they think the Right will whine the same way they do when they don’t get their hearing.

Better to do it this way. Let the times choose what they run, and then be judged by it.

Get ready for a long campaign season. Obama is the MSM and Rats JFK and after Obama is elected he will be the savior of all while McCain is forgotten.
Faux News is also reporting it but all they're doing is pretending to be fair while throwing McCain a bone.

The McCain List.

In a move of ideological arrogance and electoral bias, a New York paper refused to publish an op-ed by John McCain because it supposedly did not "mirror" Obama's earlier op-ed enough. However, it was a foolish move on their part as it will only bring more attention to McCain's piece and only further confirm the paper's shrinking power and influence. McCain's editorial is reproduced in its intended form here.

I’m sure their editor ran his response by the DNC before he made it. Can’t have anyone treading on the Messiah’s message now, can we?

Yep - just release the editorial to CNN, Fox, and talk radio. With the notation that we certainly would have liked to run it in the NY Slimes, but hey, they didn’t have, you know, ROOM for it.

I'm surprised CNN even published it. There's not unity among the Drive Bys at all. The New York Times has just quietly admitted its a PR broadsheet for Obama and has dispensed with even the appearance of fair coverage. Then so has the Big Three among the MSM. They are losing viewers, circulation and audience share and they have no idea why Americans hold them in such low regard. No one cares about their 24/7 Obamafest.

You sure hit the nail on the head with your cartoons.

And this is a sad, but accurate summary of liberals:

“Liberals would rather President Bush lose the war on terror, even if it means we all die”.
