Boxer Unwilling to Compromise on ANWR Drilling
businessandmedia.org ^ | July 21, 2008 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 07/21/2008 1:59:40 PM PDT by Rufus2007

Even if you offer Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., what she’s been pushing for – taxpayer investments in “green” or renewable energy – she’s not going to budge in her opposition to opening federal lands to oil and natural gas exploration. Talk about willingness to compromise.

MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough asked Boxer July 21 about a hypothetical compromise with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, in which Hutchison would agree to investment in “renewable energies like wind and solar, and, and have the federal government get involved in a new type of Manhattan Project,” if Boxer would agree to opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to drilling.

“I don’t think that you throw the Alaskan [Arctic] National Wildlife [Refuge] into oil drilling,” Boxer said. “You don’t need to do it. If you look at what’s in there, it would keep us going for six months when you can do so much more. I mean, with the acreage that is already in the oil companies’ hands. So, I think there are certain American values and you don’t throw them away for something that is so obviously necessary.”’

She paraded her tail feathers about her so-called tri-partisan Boxer-Lieberman-Warner global warming hoax bill. I guess that type of compromise only works when it suits her agenda.

Why doesn't someone refute this nonsense. 10 billion barrels are not going to be used up in 6 months.

Gee, I read somewhere over the weekend that California uses more gaoline than China. Could that possibly be true?

But back to Boxer and her other “9%ers” who are in that elite club of being a member of the 110th congress that have 91% of We the Peoples (us taxpayers) disapproving of what they’re doing.

What the 9%ers fail to comprehend is that other countries are going to be drilling off the coast of their beloved California and these other countries don’t have to get permission from anybody.

Look its real simple. These socialists can not allow drilling to happen. Now or ever. Drilling would prove that they were lying to American citizens for the past 30 years and that they are the reason we are paying such high cost for gasoline.

You’re right, Boxer, we can do so much more and we must. We should drill in ANWR and everywhere else that shows potential for crude production. It’s actually kind of silly to talk about ANWR so much as an individual thing. It has to be just one part of a massive drilling program, plus ASAP development of viable alternative energy sources (and I really think we need to end these biofuel from food crop programs).

Barren land caribou roam the barren lands of ANWR. If Baxter is opposed to drilling a few thousand acres there; but she's in favour of drilling in millions of acres elsewhere -- does that mean she thinks the land "elsewhere" is less environmentally important than the barren lands?

Good grief! What is it with representatives from CA: Pelosi, Feinstein, and Boxer. Is it some kind of infection (i.e., the dreaded Dumb Virus originating with Harry Reid next door in NV) that's creeping in over the state line? Where does Boxer get her statistics? Six month supply? For whom...the entire planet? And does she think the 2000 acres that is proposed for drilling will impact the 19 million acres in ANWR? Gees...you're setting aside a tract of land the size of the LA airport from an area the size of South Carolina. Plus, it's so far north, nothing is there...even in summer there are no animals, just mosquitoes. Does Boxer really think this is a tourist attraction to the point she hold the American consumer hostage?

Man...I sure hope you people in CA do a better job of electing representatives in Nov, because the current crop sucks.

"Why doesn't someone refute this nonsense. 10 billion barrels are not going to be used up in 6 months. "

That's one of their one trick ponies to say it won't last but for six months. The truth is that 16 billion barrels at 1 million barrels per day would last 43 years and would reduce current import rates by about 10%.

Someone should point out to them that you cannot get 10-16 billion barrels of crude out of the ground in six months.

The agenda is:
Drive up prices till the public will accept “anything” to get relief
Nationalize the oil industry.
Use control of energy to force nationalization of transportation - especially airlines.
Divert the flow of dollars now going from US taxpayers to arabs into the coffers of the left (i.e., democrats)
Once they have control open up drilling, shale, coal and nuclear (with government control) and maintain prices as high as possible while touting themselves and AlGoreManiacs as saving of the planet. (You will be surprised how green carbon based energy will be found to be when they are reaping the rewards)

Simple!

The dems have some type of sophistry playing out here.

I find it extremely difficult to believe they don't understand blocking drilling is a losing proposition in the upcoming elections

My gut tells me they are trying to find a way to wait until the very last moment to make a political move to snatch any sort of victory from the GOP and Bush / McCain right before the election.

Boxer, Pelosi and Finklestien don’t want prices of gas to come down. California has a 7.5% tax on every dollar of gas that is sold. They loose money if prices come down. That’s what’s behind their refusal to allow more drilling.

You maybe right, dems always overstep

Virtually every person I know thinks Congress needs to address the energy crisis and the overwhelming majority of them thinks drilling is a good place to start.

So let the dems block drilling it will cost them in the long run.

Republicans need to be running adds.

They base their “6 months” on the “proven reserves” (they haven’t allowed exploratory drilling so we are using old numbers), estimated as if we stopped using all other oil and just used the ANWR oil at 20 million barrels a day for 180 days. Note that is about 3.6 billion barrels of oil.

If in fact there are 10 billion barrels, it would last about 3 years if it was our only source of oil.

And of course, we are unlikely to get more than a million barrels a day out of it. Which means it will last, as you say, for decades.

This is a self-evidently stupid argument she makes. Someone should point out that we have major oil wells pumping in the THOUSANDS of barrels a day, that only have a few million barrels available, and wouldn’t last a day. So why are we pumping them at all?

This woman is a total fraud. The same goes for her ambulance chasing lawyer husband. It was bad enough when she lived in Marin County. Now, we have to put up with her face since she bought a home in Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs area).

Do not ever waste your time communicating with her if you are a California resident. I have witnessed her in action on US EPA Superfund matters. She accomplished nothing for the communities. It took a Republican Congressman to get legislation through Congress to help move the remediation forward. And guess who showed up for all of the publicity photos - her royal highness (or in her case, considering her height, shortness).
