A former college student who was sentenced to 12½ years in federal prison today broke down crying as he apologized for his part in a rare domestic terrorism plot to kill Jewish civilians, as well as attack U.S. military sites and recruiting centers in Southern California.
Gregory Patterson, 24, of Los Angeles pleaded guilty in December to two counts: conspiracy to levy war against the United States through terrorism and conspiracy to possess and discharge firearms.
"Your honor, I'm thoroughly embarrassed and appalled by my actions," a shackled Patterson told U.S. District Court Judge Cormac J. Carney. "I don't even recognize who I was three years ago. Never before in my life before meeting these people, did I believe in violence or targeting innocent civilians."

Plotted at 21, sentenced at 24 and will get out (at the latest) when he’s 36. His twenties and most of his thirties are gone. Doesn’t seem like a lot of time, but that’s a sweet-spot of life that he’ll be missing out on.
It should be stressed that despite his anglophone name this terrorist is a MUSLIM!

Oh NOOOOO, say it ain’t ain’t SO!
I thought Islam was a religion of PEACE!?!
Crying? There is no crying in terrorism...
Hope he packs enough KY for prison if he is this big a cray baby, he will really need it...........
And in prison ... YOU’RE one of the 72 virgins. Have fun.
H
By our standards it can be called a sweet spot of life but in regards to this creep it depends on what the definition of life is. He was willing to kill and cause terror so I don’t think he is capable of a sweet spot of life. And when he is out in almost nothing flat... whose sweet spot of life will he take away?
This young man, chose his sides and was caught before he could kill someone, but plead guilty to conspiracy to levy war against the United States through terrorism .
IMHO he should swing or fry. Either, I do not care which, but the sooner the better. That's what should happen if we were sane about defending this nation and our liberty and way of life.
Yeah, we’re thoroughly appalled and embarrassed by your actions, too. Step this way, please.
Say hello to Spike, your new cellmate. He’s gonna teach you how to bend over and face Mecca!
True.
But he will probably receive the Anally Injected Death Sentence in short order.
Patterson was one of four men in Jaimi'yyat Ul-Islam Is-Shaheeh, or JIS, who wanted to make a political statement regarding the alleged persecution of Muslims worldwide. Their manifesto, titled "Blueprint 2005" listed eight responsibilities for members, including learning Arabic, recruiting others and acquiring firearms for the attack.
Keep crying bub! You're going to do a lot more of it in San Quentin!

You know I honestly believe his statement. Somewhere along the way he was brainwashed, then de-programed. I am impressed he saw the light. I am only sorry he fell into their hands in the first place.
That's illegal?
I think it should be life personally; just saying that it’s not 30 days either. The sad thing is that he’ll likely come out worse than he was going in.
Can you go 12 years without ever dropping the soap?
I have to wonder, what Mosque got a hold of him and why have they not been charged? I mean come on, you know there are more out there. This is scary. These people should be stopped and the Mosque burned down!
This was a federal case. He may be going to the federal hoosegow. I have the impression that they aren’t quite as rough as state-run accomodations.
“This was a federal case.”

Yea it is called “Supermax”
Okay, I’ll add a third option to my list in my post at 9. Swing, fry, or be shot.
Okay, I’ll add a third option to my list in my post at 9. Swing, fry, or be shot.
Right. Otherwise known as the crazy train.
Should have been more.
And in prison, he’ll continue his Muslim studies...
Honestly I think he is going to wish they have hung him after the verdict.
Message to defendant:
Take your medicine like a man you Effin Wuss! If I were judge, you would be in front of a firing squad before sunset! Twelve years isn't long enough for the crime.
He'll have to have a pallet or two of KY. Crying will just make him more attractive.
O-O-OO - that baby face will be very welcome where he’s going
Profiling little sh*t you ought to be ashamed of yourself.... /s
That picture of Obama dressed in the same type of bed sheets that terrorists hide behind sent chills down my spine. There are a million things I hate about McCain and I truly believe the Republican party and our nation will become even more liberal with him as President, but that split screen picture of the two of them really is a reality check.
Something about the look on Obama’s face in that picture is so creepy. With all of McCain’s faults, in that picture, he looks idealists but patriotic and noble. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but it sure is a no brainer.....no matter how much the man McCain has become makes me sick. How in the heck did we get to the point of having to make such a choice?
“12 years don’t sound like much. Maybe he was crying from laughter. “
Wrong prosecutor. Should have gotten Johnny Sutton. He got a border agent sentenced to 12 years of solitary for doing his job.
He learned from Obama how to throw someone under the bus. In this case, it's himself.
“We’re at war with people who want to destroy our nation and kill as many of us as possible.”
And we’ve got good ol’ boy federal prosecutors like Johnny Sutton getting Ramos and Compean as much time in prison as this repeat felon who committed TREASON. What has John McCain said about that? There isn’t a dimes difference in John and Obama except the color of their skin. Neither on of them is red, white and blue. NEITHER.
They requested protective custody, they didn’t get sentenced to protective custody.
He also fought and suffered for his country and knows what that risk and sacrifice are all about. With the connections that he had, with his father as the Admiral over all US Naval forces at the time, it is certain that McCain could have avoided the deadly risk of flying "down town" to Hanoi if he had wanted.
But he didn't and took that risk for his service and he was almost killed, and was terribly tortured as a result, and helped and led the men who were captured with him admirably while there.
Obama has none of that...no even partially redeeming conservative issues, no real sacrifice and suffering for this nation...and certainly no experience (as in good experience) as to how to deal with our enemies.
In fact, to the absolute contrary, Obama has dealt on a friendly basis, using that friendship to launch his intiial political career, with domestice terrorists and enemies of this nation.
...and he says he will talk to and negotiate with our enemies. I bet he will.
Here's another good side by side of the two as they "matured" politically:

Also, take a look at the following link:
It is a shame and a disgusting travesty that we have to choose between these two.
Having said that, there are other areas where there are stark differences between the two men. On the issue of abortion, the actual aborting of a baby in the wound, the difference is great. On the issue of the war against Islamic Jihad and pressing that fight overseas, the differences are great.
There differences on the 2nd amendment are equally strong as are their views and plans for the economy and for taxes.
Mind you, I am not saying that Mccain is a godsend in these areas, but he is markedly different from Obama and offers in those areas some ground we can hold while we try and rebuild and get solid conservatives on the ticket next time, and support those in the congressional and state elections this time.
You are so right! McCain is really misguided on some issues. Same with Pres. Bush. But they do not hate America. Obama, I believe, does. I think there is a whole lot we don’t know about him and his past and the look on his face in that picture where he’s wearing bed sheets is freaking creepy. It’s the same creepy feeling I get when I look at the eyes of pictures of radical islamists, terrorists, and violent criminals. It’s something in the eyes that is dark. I don’t mean that their eyes are brown. I’ve seen the same look in the eyes of people with blue or green eyes. It’s like their evil soul showing through. That’s the only way I know how to explain it.

Terrorist plotter
mind if I use those 2 pics in #9?
others...HERE
very effective...thanks
It’s been asked ebfore, but what kind of choice IS that?
We’re being asked to pick between one guy who didn’t learn enough from his past, and another guy who learned too much.
The one never learned how to take practical steps to express love his country, and the other learned too much about how to take practical steps to express hate for it.
This Presidential race is like some nightmarish, National Level “have you stopped beating your wife, yet?” kind of thing.
Please, God, let me wake up and find it was all a bad dream!!
“It is a shame and a disgusting travesty that we have to choose between these two.”
I don’t have to. You are either part of the problem, or you’re not. Your choice. Haven’t you had enough of these phony candidates and elections? I won’t be a part of it and the more of you that do play their game the worse it will get. I want no hand in that.
As for abortion, McCain has said also he wouldn’t want Roe vs. wade overturned. Depends on which day he’s talking, Jeff.
How do you think he’ll behave when he’s the boss being he’s such a jerk now? That’s a rhetorical question.
“This Presidential race is like some nightmarish, National Level have you stopped beating your wife, yet? kind of thing.”
Exactly.
I respect your choice, and thank you for your concern and commitment to our Republic, I hope you undert=stand that my own choice is out of that same love and commitment.
My choice is much more about opposing and preventing Obama than it is about supporting McCain.
Actually, I had a tough time chosing between “Have you stopped beating your wife, yet?” and “Paper or plastic?”
No prob, bro. Obama must be defeated and kept from the Presidency.
