I think we all knew this...
Sorta like not reporting the name Mohammed or that a corrupt pol is a D.
It’s like the old Soviet Union where what’s not said in the press is more important than what is.
To: madison10
I’d provide a source but my other thread got pulled, we cannot post the AP stories. Though Drudge seems to be able too? But ya, go figure, now the press will try to make excuses for our Mexican friends who have no vaccinations, go to the bathrooms in the fields and have no hand washing facilities ....

what the FDA doesn't want you to know. Actually, it's the FDA reporting the possibility that Mexican jalapenos may be responsible. It's been on the news all day. Where you been?
To: madison10
Isn’t that the truth. Nevermind hundreds if not thousands of our fellow citizens got sick because our government played footsie with this.
Trade! The almighty god of our leaders. What do a few citizens matter when there’s a buck to be made by big contributors?

Oh, well, I’ve been around? This just ticks me off. Why do we import food from China and Mexico? Do we long to die or what?

So in your mind should we not trade with any countries for food? I’m sure that would do wonders for our economy.
To: DoughtyOne
Exactly, they could have banned Mexican produce, like Hello? But instead we search old ladies in airports rather than than target the usual suspects (bad analogy?)

Yes. That is exactly my though, since when does America need to import food? Give me a break.

Wild boars? The 2006 outbreak of E. coli in spinach, for example, was caused by such animals getting into the fields.

It's called comparative advantage. You know, basic economic stuff and all. Let us focus on what we do best, trade with countries that have a comparative advantage in other things, with every country involved being better off. If we grew all of our food ourselves, it would necessarily divert resources from other areas, leading to a decrease in overall supply and a steep rise in prices.
You are also aware that the UK has had to import most of its food for well over one hundred years, yet they're doing just fine

Look, don’t be silly. If we have health and safety rules governing U.S. growers, then we should demand those regulations be adhered to in foreign growers operations. We are exposing our populace to illness and death. I know you don’t support that.

Fine? In what way, their hospitals are full of the sick, dying and unhealthy, their hospitals are extremely dangerous full of antibiotic resistant staph and other bugs. I wonder if their immune systems are tanked by eating all this GMO, pesticide laden garbage.

We are exposing our populace to illness and death. An extremely small amount of the populace has gotten sick. Now, if we banned Mexican imports of food, what do you think that will do to food prices here in the U.S. You think people would like paying ridiculously higher prices just to have an even smaller chance of getting sick than they already have? I wouldn't.
To: silentreignofheroes
No, it’s called weighing both costs and benefits

(British) hospitals are full of the sick, dying and unhealthyAs opposed to American hospitals, which are filled with people who are perfectly healthy.

FWIW, the strains of E. coli that cause serious human health problems are not usually carried by humans. They’re carried by herbivores such as cattle and pigs.
I’m not saying that poor sanitation by workers might not be the cause, but that’s not the way to bet.

If there’s no excuse for producing vegetables with critters here that will make people sick, then there’s no excuse for allowing produce with critters from Mexico to enter our nation.
I never said or intimated that I supported closing off all food sources from outside of the United States.
I do question an over reliance on any foreign born product. Do we want to become 70% dependent on foreign born food? Hell no!
If the oil situation has taught us anything, it’s that self-reliance is of prime importance when it comes to necessities.
