LAHORE: The repeated assertions by the American and Afghan officials that the tribal areas of Pakistan have turned into a safe haven for Al Qaeda militants have finally been endorsed by the Pakistani intelligence agencies in their recent report to the Prime Ministers Secretariat, admitting for the first time that the number of the foreign fighters present in the Pak-Afghan tribal belt is around 10,000.
According to sources in the PM Secretariat, the revelation has been made in a classified report submitted to PM Gillani recently by the ISI, ahead of his upcoming visit to the US during which he is scheduled to meet President Bush.
The sources said an unusually large numbers of the foreign fighters have set alarm bells ringing in Islamabad as pressure from Washington and Kabul could intensify for launching a joint Pak-US military operation in the tribal areas on the Pakistani side of the Afghan border. The report states that a majority of the foreign fighters are living in the North and South Waziristan tribal agencies which could not have been possible without the consent and help of the Pakistani Taliban.
The report states the number of the foreign fighters in the tribal areas started increasing in 2007. The biggest attraction for these young militant guests from the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe was the increase in the number of US troops in Afghanistan. A lot of young Muslims are coming to Afghanistan to fight the US troops who, they believe, have come to Afghanistan not to fight terrorism but to occupy more Muslim lands, the report states.
Most of them come as tourists and traders directly from Dushanbe, Baku, Istanbul, Dubai, Sharjah, Delhi and Frankfurt to Kabul by different airlines. Many Afghans in Kabul, Karachi, Dubai and Delhi are working for them as travel agents, the report added.
The report adds two US-born Qaeda operators Adam Gadhan alias Azzam al Amriki and Abu Ahmad alias Amir Butt are known in the Afghan Kunar province for making travel arrangements of these young and educated Muslims from the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Canada and Australia.

The report states the number of the foreign fighters in the tribal areas started increasing in 2007.Right about the time the "Surge" was taking effect and al-queda was abandoning the iraq front.
Obviously a coincidence.

Yes,...and that was the surge that Obama says was a bad idea....makes one wonder which side he is supporting...
To: Eagles6
On another thread, Obama is still against the surge.
He said the Sunni uprising and the Surge simply coincided.
One having nothing to do with other.

I’m so sick of hearing about these tribal areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan. We need to give them 48 hours to vacate and then just level the fricking place already. No bigger message to the world can be sent.

John McCain has an ad on the DNA Website....Way to go John....
Has a photo of Obama and asks the question >>>"Is it OK to Unconditionally meet with Anti - American foreign Leaders?"
And Yes and No boxes for voting...it is a Flash Ad however....so I don't think a click actually gets tabulated.

The big attraction for terrorists that Pakistan had over Iraq was that they could get killed in Iraq.

I like your idea! I would suggest one small change. Let's reverse the order of the action from warning -> attack to attack -> warning. It's not a big change but would probably greatly increase the effectiveness of the operation.
If they think they will have a problem delaying the notification by a day or two I will loan them my cell phone. As far as I know it's never gotten a message to me on time.
Either way I say, “Let's roll!”

Hey, I thought Adam Gadhan took the dirt nap a few months ago in a predator strike. Why is he back in the news?

One has to think talks have gone down between the US and Pakistan regarding the FATA. Admiral Mullen and his team surely have laid down the ground rules with the Paki.
And I am sure the Paki where not happy but do realize the terrorist camps must be taken out as well as long term precision strikes on Taliban and al Qaeda and other war lords's HQ and safe houses in this vast region.
The cooperation of the Paki military and Intel is essential in getting the GPS coords for the exterminations. They will number in the hundreds... or more.
One can rest assured, the CVN72 CBG steamed into Karachi for upcoming HVT strikes along with other sorties that will play out.

One has to think talks have gone down between the US and Pakistan regarding the FATA. One would hope so. The Taliban and AQ can cause lots of problems in Afghanistan but they could never get back into power. I think the extremists elements have given up on Iraq and fixed their gaze upon Pakistan where the population is more sympathetic to their cause.
On the bright side we have fought alongside the Pac Army before in Somalia. On the dark side seems to be the Pac intelligence agency which at a minimum is playing both sides if not totally working against us.

Ten thousand jihadists in the most remote region on earth.
Take a page from Obi from Nairobi's Unilaterally Disarm America, and get rid of some of those pesky W-88s in Asia's Yucca Mountain Dead Jihadi Repository.
Don't you just love the smell of burning jihadi in the morning

Your statements seem quite reasonable to me. Let us hope their Intel takes a careful look at the long term, and do not screw the pouch on the short term.
The US and NATO forces are not going away. The longer the Pakistani government (mil/intel included in the mix) allow for goons to do their deeds in Afghanistan, the more probable we shall with or not with their permission increase air strikes within their territory. I hope they are not so stupid. And besides, a lot of aid and military hardware could be cut off if the persist in being hard headed.
Time for them to instruct the FATA regions's populations as how the game must go down.

I don't think it is going to come down to nuclear Phil. It is just not how should I say popular or PC in todays world.
But the new generation big bombs as well as all the mixes of laser guided munitions surely could make a lot of the camel humpers wish their mothers never had em.

Afghanistan hit by record number of bombs Coming soon to a cave near the 10,000 "foreigners" terrorizing Pakistani tribal belt.
Take no prisoners. Take no embeds. Take no jags.
When it's all quiet in Wirziristan, and Dick Durbin rises to resolve that the U.S. is committing war crimes, just clear that side of the aisle--for the duration.
