It's 6 a.m. in Rittenhouse Square, one of Philadelphia's most elegant parks. As the sun rises, its overnight summer residents - more than two dozen homeless men and women - are asleep on benches. --snip-- And while homeless people say they like the comforts of the high-end neighborhood, the Rittenhouse Square residents, managers of nearby businesses, and Fairmount Park Commission employees who maintain the grounds complain that the resulting problems have gotten worse this summer, making their jobs and neighborhood life more difficult

at least a buncha kids didn’t build a wiffle ball park, now THAT would be unacceptable!
Why did you use the term NIMBY? The libs in this article don’t appear to have a problem with it. Would you? I would.
I have heard that rittenhouse square was on the edge of an empowerment zone. So for the tax benefits that they receive, a few homeless people, who do not bother anyone isn’t so bad.
Why is it unacceptable? As Boortz would say, these "urban sportsmen" choose to be where they are. They are not looking for jobs...they choose not to be employed. Just the other day I was waiting at a stop light and a man was there with a sign saying he was homeless and needed food to eat. I had just come out of a grocery store, about 100 yards away, that had signs they needed stock boys. So, I rolled down the window, pulled up to the homeless man and told him about the job opening. His response: "F#$k you!" and he flipped me off. If these people don't want to help themselves, I fail to see why I should help them either directly (give them cash) or indirectly (having my tax money aid them via the city).
Have them summer in Denver.Every-thing in Denver!! sung in
Rita Moreno voice.
Bwahahahahahahahahahaha! CLASSIC!
Don’t want lowlifes sleeping on your park benches? Set your sprinklers to come on for 15 mins. of each hour, 0400-0700. That oughta do it.
Some place elegant in Philadelphia? Somehow I just can’t imagine.
You're right...I stand corrected.
That WAS his "job". He probably makes more money than you do.
He didn’t have a sign saying “Advice wanted”. Give him cash for some “food” and keep driving. The man’s trying to earn a living.
When I worked at the Homeless Shelter, the manager once told us “When you give money to a homeless person, you are paying them to be homeless”. The liberals were aghast. The liberal response is “I don’t care what happens to him as long as I feel better”.
True, but now that I'm retired, that's one of my favorite pastimes.
