Al Gore's Doomsday Clock - (Snake Oil Salesman Extraordinaire)
WSJ. On Line ^ | July22, 2008 | BRET STEPHENS

Posted on 07/22/2008 7:10:46 AM PDT by yoe

Al Gore gave a speech last week "challenging" America to run "on 100% zero-carbon electricity in 10 years" -- though that's just the first step on his road to "ending our reliance on carbon-based fuels." Serious people understand this is absurd. Maybe other people will start drawing the same conclusion about the man proposing it. The former vice president has also recently disavowed any intention of returning to politics. This is wise. As America's leading peddler of both doom and salvation, Mr. Gore has moved beyond the constraints and obligations of reality. His job is to serve as a Prophet of Truth.

In Mr. Gore's prophesy, a transition to carbon-free electricity generation in a decade is "achievable, affordable and transformative." He believes that the goal can be achieved almost entirely through the use of "renewables" alone, meaning solar, geothermal, wind power and biofuels.

And he doesn't think we really have any other good options: "The survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk," he says, with his usual gift for understatement. "And even more -- if more should be required -- the future of human civilization is at stake."

What manner the catastrophe might take isn't yet clear, but the scenarios are grim: The climate crisis is getting worse faster than anticipated; global warming will cause refugee crises and destabilize entire nations; an "energy tsunami" is headed our way. And so on.

Here, however, is an inconvenient fact. In 1995, the U.S. got about 2.2% of its net electricity generation from "renewable" sources, according to the Energy Information Administration. By 2000, the last full year of the Clinton administration, that percentage had dropped to 2.1%. By contrast, the combined share of coal, petroleum and natural gas rose to 70% from 68% ………

Didn’t he say we only had 10 years ago about 4 or 5 years ago? Subtraction might be beyond is math capabilities, but he should be down to 5 or 6 years before the end of the world by now.

Gore is a sappy-headed hoax. (I salute him for stopping his people from instigating race riots during the election-2000 “debate” — but enough is enough!)

algore.....213,000 kWh of electricity used in his home per year? Geeze...he's probably got those special glow lamps that marijuana growers use to grow their Maui Wowie indoors.

The narcs should pay him a visit!

I remember Jaques Cousteau used to claim that the oceans would be too polluted to sustain life in 15 years.

He was making these statements in 1975. I was a kid and was a bit alarmed when I heard him say these things.

It will always be 8 to 10 years away. Enough time to elect a Democrat who will do nothing in their first term so as not to hurt the economy and thus their chances for reelection. And then in their second term they will make draconian proposals that will only come right at the end of their second term so as not to hurt their economy but foist it off onto the next president's term . Most likely a Republican who will be under the economic burden of implementing idiotic liberal policies. Meaning the Republican most likely won't be reelected and a Democrat will take control again.

I challenge Al Gore to reduce his own "footprint" to the equal of the average American within 1 year. If he were telling the truth he'd already have done so...is actions prove he's intentionally lying.

Heard ole georgie stephinuphisnose remark that if we don’t get off fossil fuel the world will come to an end.

He’s all for Pickens’ windmills.

In his useful book “Gusher of Lies,” Robert Bryce notes that “in July 2006, wind turbines in California produced power at only about 10% of their capacity; in Texas, one of the most promising states for wind energy, the windmills produced electricity at about 17% of their rated capacity.” Like wind power, solar power also suffers from the problem of intermittency, which means that it has to be backed up by conventional sources in order to avoid disruptions. This is especially true of hot summers when the wind doesn’t blow and cold winters when the sun doesn’t shine.

At least Costeau woke us up to the dangers of so much ocean dumping. It was never a vehicle to enrich himself.

With albore, it’s all about getting rich off the gullible and harming America’s economy.

We have cleaned up our environment in many ways and there is nothing wrong that for it’s own sake. It’s the snake oil BS about global warming being our fault that is so devious.

Does anyone remember when the Goracle was pushing “waterless” toilets? It was such a great idea, that they proposed all new construction have waterless toilets AND backup plumbing “just in case”....One of his other snakeoil schemes that would result in “everyone else” living with the stench and inconvenience...
http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/4/22/150901.shtml

—snip
Former Vice President Al Gore joined the board of a waterless urinal company late last year (2003) to further the dry toilet cause and to help avert what many environmentalists believe is a looming international water crisis.
—snip
‘Primitive Worship’

But Robert Bidinotto, publisher of ecoNOT.com and a critic of environmentalists, dismisses such notions as “primitive-worship.”

“Incredibly, some environmentalists actually prefer that the foul messes we normally capture in diapers and landfills spill instead onto our linoleum, carpets and even our children,” Bidinotto told CNSNews.com.

Paging Dr. Freud

Noting many greens’ opposition to flush toilets and now baby diapers, Bidinotto said environmentalists’ have a “strange affinity for bodily wastes,” and he believes they have become “obsessed with toilet issues.”

Al Gore is desperate for a legacy that is his alone. The Nobel Prize is not enough. (looking at some of the recipients the Nobel has been tainted before) Issuing a “Challenge”, (A TEN YEAR one)in Al's mind, will put him in the same league as JFK. Nice try Al,”you are no John Kennedy”.

A more interesting question is why Mr. Gore remains believable.

After his "Live Earth" damp squib he came out in public and repeatedly claimed two billion people participated worldwide.

A subsequent tabulation of TV ratings, internet stats, and ticket sales for the concerts accounted for less than 40 million worldwide, that's TWO PERCENT of Gore's claimed participation.

Where's the other 1960,000,000 people Al?

Absolute proof that he is an outrageous liar.

I say we tell him we will set out on this goal.

How long will it take to permit & build the 1000’s of wind towers, the new transmission lines?

How fast can we install the acres and acres of new solar panels we will need when we no longer use any fossil based fuel?

Will AlGore be able to help expedite the permitting process for these new wind & solar farms?

Will we be able to build any wind towers in New England or are they too sensitive to have to look at one?

How about offshore, or will they kill birds?

Where do we put these wind towers, Al?

What about the nuclear power plants currently producing power?

What about the coal plants?

Do we abandon all the drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico right now or in ten years?

Do we retro fit our homes that heat with nat gas to now heat with ‘what’?

"a kid"

Maybe you remember Paul Ehrlich of "The Population Bomb" infamy. He was on all the talk shows with his number one bestseller in the late sixties prophesying hundreds of millions of starved to death humans by the 1990's. It never happened. And I've never read anything in Big Media by lib reporters who regret being played for fools by that charlatan. Ehrlich is still a big name in the enviro-wacko movement. Apparently in the leftist movement when you get proved one hundred percent wrong, it elevates your status.

Rush had a clock on his website counting down to THE END according to Big Al.

Not sure if it's still there since he revamped the site. He also had a graph showing how much “the rich” and everyone else paid in taxes.
