How big of a Democratic gain will occur in the Senate come November? We know that this is the right question to ask in a year of a spirited Democratic primary, much enthusiasm in the party of Jackson and lopsided Senate terrain. Twenty-three Republican-held Senate seats are up for grabs, of which five are incumbent retirements, compared to just 12 Democratic seats and no Democratic retirements. Enthusiasm plus tilted terrain equals big problems for Republicans.

Norm Coleman losing to AL FRANKEN???
And the Sheep will do it, too. That’s what sheep do.
I no longer have any faith or confidence in the Sheep.
Norm Coleman losing to AL FRANKEN???
The Democrats are not going to give in and allow us to become energy independent.
I may be wrong, but my guess is this election is going to see a low turnout at the polls. I don’t think either side is enthused with the choices for the top slot.
I plan on showing up, but I have a very strong drive to vote.
Others are nowhere near as driven as I am. And I think we’re going to see that reflected in the total numbers of voters this fall.
It will also be interesting to see the numbers of people who go vote, that don’t cast a ballot for the Presidential slot.
Could the two major parties have picked less appealing candidates? Well, it would have been tough.
Damn right! Elizabeth Dole may regret her votes for bridges to nowhere and her free med for illegals. But then she is busy with the social scene in DC and probably doesnt matter to her...win or lose.
I would love to be a fly on the wall at the national RNC headquarters. Well, we got what we wanted. Now what?
This type of talk is stupid and unproductive. Does Ensign think that having barack mcgovern wrapped around the neck of the rat candidates like a flaming gasoline tire, is NOT a advantage to be exploited?
You are 100% correcto. The trouble is only a very few have a backbone.
I think the Rats are in for a big surprise come Nov. Of course, if what they are predicting does not come to pass, they will say it is b/c Americans are racist.
Apparently the two sides “operation chaos-ed” each other. That’s the only way I can explain having these two for choices.
Are the 33 toast or what?
In June, I sent this letter to the editor of four Chicago-area newspapers:
“I heard Sen. Obama say that the 2008 elections should cause change, and I agree. We can change the government by electing more Republicans.
Democrats control the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Illinois Senate, and Illinois House. If Illinois voters want to change the government, we’ll ensure that Republicans regain control of those four houses. If that happens, those politicians will decrease tax rates, decrease spending, defend us from terrorists and discourage illegal immigration.”
The letter was printed by three papers.

According to the guys at Powerline, not likely:

I agree 100%! The “R”’s have been given a gift in the form of the Dim’s liking high gas prices. Now with the D’s wanting to raise the gas tax by .10¢....if the R’s don’t hang this around their neck they will have given the opportunity of regaining control of the Senate up and gains in the house. We can do without controling the house but the Senate and White House are a different story.

———————————Thanks. I hope not, but, like I said, nothing surprises me anymore.
Newt Gingrich should be heading the RNC and driving things.
JUST DRILL! TALK IS CHEAP - GAS COST $4.00/GAL!
Republicans have the winning ticket if they will just “DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, DRILL ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, and TELL THE ENVIROS to go to CHINA and WHINE! The time for letting everyone else drill in OUR BACKYARD while we do nothing but spout feel good, save our environment crap is OVER!

Were there any responses?
That had been my thought too. Did we give each other the worst candidates in the history of this nation? Well, someone sure did.
Yes, the websites of two papers got about 15 comments, each. About 2/3 of the comments were from Democrats who said that Republicans don’t care about decreasing tax rates or spending or that Republicans wouldn’t protect the country from terrorists better than the Democrats.
Kinda makes me wonder where they get their “facts”. Then again, I think I know...
I don’t buy it.
They have been saying Susan Collins in Maine is vunerable - she’s running against Tom Allen, arguably the least effective Congressman - in 8 years or something the guy never passed a single bill.
Collins will run all over the guy.
I heard this morning that Coleman is up by 9%.
And with a 9% approval rating for Congress, do you think we could POSSIBLY see either a lackluster turnout for the lesser names on the ballot (absolute "don't care") or a backlash ("throw the bums out") vote against all encumbants?
If Illinois voters want to change the government, well ensure that Republicans regain control of those four houses. If that happens, those politicians will decrease tax rates, decrease spending, defend us from terrorists and discourage illegal immigration.
If anything, Republicans as a whole have shown that they can't be trusted with our wallets any more than Democrats. And discourage illegal immigration? W and McCain would beg to differ.
I'm starting to think that divided government is the best we can hope for - they spend half the time fighting each other, less time for spending our money.
The Republicans deserve to have their ass handed to them for spending too much and failing to reduce the size of government. Lying bastards!
Some republican politicians want to increase spending, but I think that the majority of them want to decrease spending. Some republican politicians (including McCain) want to help illegal aliens, but I think that the majority of Republicans want to deport as many illegals as possible, as quickly as possible.
A few? Probably.
More than individual democrats? Obviously.
But the majority? No way. Certainly not the leadership, who would truly benefit from a takeover by (R)s.
I’ll vote for individual Republican candidates who deserve it, but the leadership is too corrupt to reward.
I agree that too many Republicans are too liberal. My congressman is Mark Kirk (of IL). He says that he’s a Republican, but he’s pro-spending increases, pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge. I emailed him four times, and I asked why he’s a Republican. I haven’t received a response.
Do you think that Sen. McConnell and/or Rep. Boehner is corrupt? If so, why do you have that opinion?
I agree that we should only vote for individual republican candidates who deserve to win. My congressman is Mark Kirk, a Republican who is more liberal than many Democrats. I usually vote for no one, in that race, since he’s as liberal as all of the Democrats who opposed him.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
A liberal vote by a republican congressman is as bad a a liberal vote by a democrat congressman.
