Despite plummeting mortality rates for most infectious diseases over the last century, a group of largely overlooked bacterial, viral and parasitic infections is still plaguing the nation's poor, according to a report released this week.
Many of the diseases are typically associated with tropical developing countries but are surprisingly common in poor regions of the United States, according to the analysis, published in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

third world people bring third world diseases with them....
I did a word search on the original article and the two words “illegal” and “immigrant” were not found. More agitprop from the LA Times.
And the poor is all America’s post-marxists care about.
i think its the proleteriat you speak of
Under Obama there will be a free medical for everyone !
“surprisingly common in poor regions of the United States, “
Surprising if one disregards the fact that a good number of these poor people are either from a developing tropical country or are closely associating with someone who is.
The common feature isn’t poverty but 3rd world imigrants.
They aren’t AMERICAN poor, they are third-world immigrants (virtually all of whom are illegal, or who have come in intimate contact with illegals). Our out-of-control immigration problem is going to result in all kinds of epidemics.
I ride the train into town (Chicago) every day for my job. You would not believe the number of third-worlders who get on the train who are coughing up lungs and showing other overt signs of illness.
And they are preparing and serving your food.

“And they are preparing and serving your food.”
...I live in a county that’s 97% white and native born.
I’ll say it again: illegals are bringing their diseases with them. We have NO IDEA what is coming over our border.
STUPID LIBS, PAY ATTENTION BECAUSE THIS IS SERIOUS.
“The ‘el,’ or the Metra? Just curious....”
METRA, actually. West Line.
