Obama trounces McCain ... in sales of T-shirts, badges, caps
AFP ^ | 22 July, 2008 | Karin Zeitvogel

WASHINGTON (AFP) - \Barack Obama is trouncing John McCain in the race for the White House -- at least in sales of T-shirts, badges, baseball caps and other campaign merchandise.

"Everyone is going for Obama," a sidewalk vendor whose stand was smothered in Obama and McCain T-shirts, along with garb for visitors to Washington, told AFP.

"We sell about 70 percent Obama stuff -- way more than McCain," said the vendor, who asked not to be named.

Obama-embroidered baseball caps sat in the center of the stand; the absence of a McCain equivalent was striking.

"I don't think our wholesaler makes McCain baseball caps," the vendor said.

On the Café Press website, where users create and sell products to express their political passion, Obama garb made up 66 percent of sales in the week from July 13; McCain kits made up 14 percent of sales in the same seven-day period.

McCain didn't do that much better than Hillary Clinton, who racked up nine percent of sales on Café Press -- and Clinton dropped out of the race for the nomination in June.

At Capital Noveltees, a wholesaler that supplies campaign merchandise to retail outlets around the United States, sales of things Obama were also making revenues from McCain goods look pale and flat.

I thought BO’s voter base was nothing but “poor” people. Where is “the poor” getting all this money? Especially with the “bad economy” thing going on.

That’s a lot of carbon credits when they dump those loser merchandise at the city dump when Obama loses to McCain.

Exactly. The well dressed moonbat has to have an Obama shirt to go with their six Che shirts to round out the week's wardrobe.

Obama's the Che for the 21st Century and McCain can't compete, no matter how hard he tries to be a socialist.

The vast majority of people who buy this stuff are young voters who support Obama as a cult but at the end a majority of them will not show up to vote on Elections Day.

Go back to your dreamscape, JV. People who spend money to wear political messages and put bumper stickers on their cars usually follow through to vote. That goes for ALL parties. You McCainbots had better figure out a way to sell or giveaway a boatload of crap. I know, maybe you guys can throw in some refreshing koolaid first. People will be more apt to buy in when their drunk on that stuff.

I live in an NC county that tilts red (54-46 Bush last time) and I rarely see a McCain sticker. I probably see ten times as many BHO stickers. No question he is losing the bumpersticker war badly. Thankfully our elections aren’t decided by bumperstickers. I think he has more excited and fervent supporters than McCain who seems to have few conservatives excited but BHO also has a substantially higher number of people who can’t stand him than McCain does.

Perhaps McCain supporters put higher priority on paying mortgages and school tuition than on buying t-shirts.
