Are Twin Cities ready for 'sleeping dragon'? Dream on (RNC)
StarTribune ^ | 7/22/08 | KATHERINE KERSTEN

Posted on 07/22/2008 8:02:50 PM PDT by ButThreeLeftsDo

The Twin Cities and Denver will face a common challenge for the next five weeks. As host cities for the Republican and Democratic national conventions, both are girding for battle with "sleeping dragons" and other tools of mass disorder.

There's one significant difference. Denver's City Council is considering an ordinance to defang the dragons. Minneapolis and St. Paul are biding their time.

Denver City Council's public safety committee will vote today on an ordinance that would bar protesters from carrying items such as weighted PVC pipes, carabiners and quick-drying concrete.

These are the raw materials of the sleeping dragon -- a maneuver that can lock protesters into a human barricade, create traffic nightmares and produce chaos.

Denver's public safety committee chairman Doug Linkhart has strongly urged the ordinance's passage. "In other cities, [protesters are] not just handcuffing themselves to each other," he said, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "They put their handcuffs inside PVC tubes, which are inside concrete. They've figured out ways that keep the police from just using bolt cutters to cut them apart. They also use buckets of urine and feces and various noxious substances to pour on themselves or the police."

Denver's proposed ordinance -- supported by the police chief and the mayor -- would bar protesters from carrying any object that can be used to obstruct roadways, sidewalks or building entrances and would also ban possession of noxious substances.

One might wonder why Denver is so concerned about disorder. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee-to-be, has called for an end to the Iraq war and otherwise adopted a leftist's dream agenda. But anarchists and anti-globalists are not satisfied. One group, Recreate 68, has vowed to make the street clashes of Chicago's notorious 1968 Democratic convention "look like a small get-together".......

The cities invited these “ Shows” so let them control them, I think it will be wonderful, and wait until Hillary steals the nomination, ( by hook or crook,,, don’t count her out)then we will really see some discontent. The Summer of our Discontent.

No, you don’t want to be there. Ever been in a riot? It is not fun. In high school we had a small race riot in the stands at a football game. We put the cheerleaders in the middle of the team and our coaches instructed us to keep our helmets on. Coaches and bigger linemen were on the outside. Happily, the police broke it up reasonably quickly and the really ugly stuff never reached us. People lose normal, healthy inhibitions in these crowd scenes and innocent people get hurt. Only someone who has seen too much of this crap on TV from the comfort of an easy chair would hope for such a riot.

I returned from Denver last night - the 16th Street outdoor walking mall is filled with cretins and young wannabe freaks. I told my son (resides in Steamboat) that the Dimocratz would remove all those people and freedom would not reign. He didn’t believe me but he will see the contrast with Minnehaha.

In Minnehaha, the GOP will tolerate all the freaks who come into town because they actually do believe in and put up with free speech even when it comes from the leftist freaks and perverts including Code Pink and MoveOn, sorry if I repeated myself.

It’s hard to win when we are reasonable and follow the law while the other side is anarchist.

all the talk of violence and civil disobedience does nothing but demonstrate my resolve to not be intimidated by their threats. They don’t want a democratic society, they want anarchy and these people aren’t capable of ruling a zoo.

Oh, I would never wish for violence...I was being facetious only...sorry! I just hope that these fears are not realized. I was
just thinking of the rhetoric that will be going on inside
the buildings! THAT circus!

I think these huge conventions have outlived their usefulness
when the nutjobs can totally disrupt them & they can’t even
do the business that they came together to accomplish!

Mostly Minneapolis moonbats run amok. KK is usually right-on with her oped pieces. The responses are typical of the everyday letters to the Strib. I ony see the paper occasionally, and I rarely see a conservative letter. The Strib has been so obnoxious for so long, that they no longer have very many non-liberal readers.

There has been no welcoming of the RNC to St.Paul by either mayor in the Twin Cities or their city councils. The emphasis has been on being open to the protesters and their “rights”.

Recently, the two Dem mayors were whinging about the lack of volunteers signing up for convention duty.

Why would they??

That is considered assault when they throw it at cops.

Return volly and let the anarchists get themselves out of their trap themselves even if that means chewing off their own legs.

I can take that stuff in very small doses, and the only
time I really pay attention is when the end comes and the
candidate of choice gives his closing speech....and the
balloons drop!

The rest is just posturing and schmoozing for the press!

We have already had too much of that!

They don’t want “anarchy”. They want anarchist revolution to usher in Socialism. Go to AKpress.org and read up on the HARD left.

They don’t support “free speech”. They are attempting to deny the GOP the Constitutional RIGHT to peaceful assembly to select a Presidential and VP candidate.

They are despots. Unlawful agitators. Smack them down hard when they strike; they have come prepared for violence.

Anyone that doesn’t have business to attend to there would be best advised to avoid the area. Useful idiots have no place to stand when they “claim” that they were part of a “peaceful nonviolent protest”. In reality they are human shields for black flag waving anarchists and die hard Communists. Useful idiots marching with fellow travellers.

They outlived their usefulness in 1968 when this same bunch of agitators first co-opted the conventions to attend to their own media event. And there was subterfuge within the Democrat convention too as the minority opinion (who represent the majority of Todays Democrat leadership) sought “equal time” from the networks.

The whole primary process was co-opted too saddling us with a candidate that the party doesn’t want (Democrats for McCain were successful as were Moonbats for 9-11 Truthers er Ron Paul).

If we don’t fix our nomination process soon we won’t have a country within 1 or 2 more election cycles.

The only pleasant surprise to come out of a party convention in recent years was Zell Miller crossing over to speak at the Republican convention. Given what he accomplished in Georgia, I wish McCain had the good sense to consider him for VP. That would pull in the Regan Democrat votes. They have to be just sick from Hillary and Obama...

That was truly a moment to remember. He would be wonderful...
except he’s even older than McCain, I think, and we really
neet a younger conservative VP that can take the reins of the
government when McCain is no longer there. Let’s face it.....

I am sick of the whole bunch of our current crop of politicians. All of them seem more interested in their own personal power than solving our country's problems. The use of steriods in baseball is such a national tragedy and the Congressional hearings accomplished so much... NOT.

I suspect in the liberal cities of Denver and Minneapolis, the police will be serving milk and cookies to the anarchists in exchange for a promise they wont cause a disruption.
and the police will be so surprised when the anarchists turn disruptive. And the police will be under a restraining order not to use deadly force if necessary. And parts of those cities will burn.

Obama will come outside and lift his hands in the air and the protesters will drop to their knees. He will appease them like he will appease his muslim brothers.

does it sound crazy? maybe. but in this day and age, with all the nutcases and freaks roaming, we could be looking at some very serious personal protection exposures.
Keep firearms and ammo ready at all times.

The use of steriods in baseball is such a national tragedy and the Congressional hearings accomplished so much... NOT.

Remember when they tried to manufacture the vote in Florida2000 behind closed doors? Today maybe one of those days as the Democrats have ginned up a private hearing to "settle" Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac with a blank check; I hear that Barney Frank got a $500,000,000 set aside for ACORN in the legislation which supposedly cannot be amendend; just voted YAY or NAY with a minority of Republicans who would lose the vote anyway.

The shadow government has defeated democracy. They have politicized everything including edumacation to ensure generations of victory.

Money is being looted. And we need to know if athletes used steroids. No investigations if police officers use steroids and suffer 'roid rage from too much testosterone. Nope. Go back to American Idol, Real World Skanks, and Peyton Place 2008. What happened to this country?
