This is what the Democrats are doing.

All of that puts the U.S. in a position that war for oil or
complete economic collapse are our only choices.
You can't frustrate every source of domestic energy
without consequences. Our enemies will blackmail us
to the extent that we are vulnerable to blackmail.

So what exactly are we moving to?

Pelosi Says Drilling for More Oil “Not the Answer”

House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said calls by Republicans to drill for more oil “is not the answer America needs.”

“Making gasoline more affordable would be the exact opposite of what we need to do,” Pelosi asserted. “We need to wean the country off of its dependence on fossil fuels. We can only do this if we discourage Americans’ love affair with their cars and put an end to the frenzy of excessive and senseless driving.”

In support of her contention that Americans’ driving habits are “excessive” and “senseless,” the Speaker pointed to a recent study showing that rising fuel costs were linked to declining highway fatalities. The study by two university professors looked at fatalities and fuel prices over the 1985-2006 timeframe and concluded that fatalities dropped by two percent for every ten percent increase in gasoline prices.

“The fact that the peak gasoline price in 2006 was $2.50 a gallon tells me that at today’s $4 a gallon we’re saving even more lives,” Pelosi conjectured. “Rather than undermine this salubrious trend by attempting to reverse the rising costs of fuel we should be celebrating our good fortune.”

Just outlaw driving. That will solve everything. Sometimes the most complicated situations have the simplest solutions.

Why Democrats don't want to lower gas prices..

Because if you think the oil companies are making out like bandits they have nothing on the Government who make much more on a gallon than the oil companies do..

And there is a knock on effect in additional tax revenues from EVERY transaction as prices go up on everything because of increased transportation costs.

Who the hell do these arrogant Democrats think they are to DICTATE like Kings and Queens that we shall have no oil? They are elected by the people and have to listen to us, the people of the United States. Bring Congress to its knees melt down their phones. Flood their e-mail boxes. Hold them as political hostages. The ransom demand is to unleash the free market to begin exploring and pumping domestic crude oil and getting it to market as fast as possible. We’ve got two months to make our voices heard. Let’s make history by bringing this recalcitrant body of elitists into compliance with the will of the people and the rule of law.” TELL THEM THAT YOU DEMAND THEY OPEN UP DRILLING, AND TO STOP THE DELAYING TACTICS OF THE LONG WAIT FOR LEASES AND TO STOP NUISANCE LAW SUITS BY ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS.

To find your representatives phone number check your phone book or go to either www.senate.gov or www.house.gov.

“Why Democrats don’t want to lower gas prices?”

Because the Lefties want us all using government mass transit and oil companies owned by the government.

The arrogance of this statement is mind-boggling. It's the equivalent of "let them eat cake."

“She and her cronies will think twice about this in a few months when the poor and downtrodden whom they are forever pretending to cherish and protect start having difficulty paying for gas and oil to heat their homes”

You do know that the libs will have a solution for that problem too? They will just give them more of our tax money, more wealth transfer. You wait till this winter and all the hard luck stories about people not being able to pay for heat.

We’ve got to “Burn Down the House” on this(note this is not a literal incentive to violence). They are ignoring emails. Phone and fax are the best way to get attention.

Fax a letter, gas receipts, etc. to the House. ‘Burn’ out the fax lines.

Call, call, call! You can reach members of the House by calling 202-224-3121 or 202-225-1904.

If fewer people are working and fewer business are operating, where will they get the money?

The heating aid funds are pools and the more people who apply, the smaller the individual grant. At most, they will have enough money to give a portion of those applying a portion of what they need this winter. They will also have to raise the food stamp allotment at a time when they can’t even afford to enact meaningful COLAs. The perception of poverty engendered by home equity losses and retirement savings/pension fund losses is going to make higher taxes on those still working a bitter pill. If those people are union and government workers, it will amount to a penalty on their own base. Come winter, this situation is going to snowball out of control of even the DC elite. They will be forced to consider capping energy prices, at least for home heating, which will lead to shortages. There is a feeling out here in the Midwest that we could have an early frost, meaning food goes up. It isn’t only going to be the poor and downtrodden who can’t afford heat and food, it is going to be everyone.
Those hard luck stories will be real, for a change, and they will resonate as everyone is coping with the same situation.

Anecdote:
A friend who is a custom builder with a loyal cliental in Chicago and Boulder and a former income in the 6-figure range, has lost his jobs for the foreseeable future as his clients called him in June to postpone their projects. These folks have seen an asset decline and are having difficulties getting loans. The taxes paid by the clients and the builder will both be much less this year. I do not think these are isolated incidents.

There are no magic money trees.

Where do you think they will get the money? It’s very simple. They will get it from us, the 50% of the population that actually pays taxes. They won’t stop till they get all our money.

At some point, the political penalty will be too high. With less tax revenue and more takers, they will hit bottom quickly. The choice will be between enacting sensible programs and losing power.

You cannot get blood from a stone. They can tax and tax until there are no more earners to tax. They can go after assets and engender political wrath, especially since all those assets have declined because of their policies.

Their policies are going to lead to energy and food shortages as they attempt the usual Marxist programs of capping prices and mandating production, along with attempting to paper it over with handouts.

At some point before the ultimate bottom, they are going to run out of money and the electorate will have not only been bled dry, they will vote them out.

At best, people will see this coming and elect McCain and fiscal/energy conservatives to Congress and we will dodge the bullet. At worst, we will all be broke, the country will be ruined and in two years Obama will face a fiscally conservative pro-production Congress.

It will take us 3-5 years to rebuild after that, IMO. Meanwhile, the voters may have had a harsh economic and political lesson.

YMMV
