MIAMI-DADE, Fla. -- A homeowner shot a would-be burglar in Southwest Miami-Dade on Sunday, police said.
Police said the man shot was one of two thieves who tried to burglarize a house in the 2400 block of 117th Avenue about 2 a.m.

He was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable condition. The second man apparently got away.
Neighbors said the house, which sits on the side of the street nearest the interstate, has been hit by thieves before.
Police said two children, ages 5 and 9, were inside the house when the culprits tried to break in.
No charges had been filed against the homeowner Sunday.
You come in my house without an invite....you go out on a stretcher....
Why is this even mentioned?
Kudos on the homeowner. We should take up a collection to buy him a larger caliber weapon, and some target time.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Better luck next time.

To show people, citizens and criminals alike, that we have the right to defend ourselves with deadly force.
This only has a few replies.
Ping to Dave, and a bump to the top.
Another happy ending
To create and/or maintain in the mind of the reader the expectation that such charges might, or should, be forthcoming.

Sounds like a public exoneration to me. Although the way it’s intended (after reading hundreds of these things), it’s not ruling out charges in the future. The reporter is just reporting that as of Sunday, no charges were filed.
Can someone explain to me the pros/cons of using hydrashock ammo for a pistol used in defensive situations? What does it do that’s different than most loads? Would you recommend it, say, for my wife’s pistol?
Are you on good terms with your wife?
If not, I’d recommend you buy her a cap pistol.
It sort of still amazes me that the fact that no charges have been filed against the homeowner is a reportable fact. It should be of interest only if charges ARE filed against the homeowner.
I don’t think it SHOULD be mentioned. In fact, it “goes without saying that we have the right to defend ourselves”.
Screw convention of the media.
IF the homeowner were charged THEN they should be mentioning it so we can all all protest loudly
A good outcome with perhaps a recommendation of a little more range time in order to save the taxpayers money.
Burgulary is what happens to an empty house...It’s home invasion when people are in the house.
A man’s selection of his ammo is as varied as his tastes for women. There is many reasons to select one over another. If you suspect that the best odds of you ever having to defend yourself will be at night, then select one that has a small muzzle flash.
There are reasons for using hollowpoints that won’t hold up in winter due to the heavy clothing we tend to wear when its cold.
This is a subject that has hundreds of reasonable opinions from hundreds of experts and they are all correct given the many various options.
It’s something you’ll have to d o your own research on.

I don't think a prosecutor will bring charges against the homeowner because he knows the case would be summarily dismissed by a judge. FL has a good Castle Doctrine law, aka "stand your ground" law, that precludes charges against a homeowner in situations like this one even if the bad guy wasn't armed himself. And if the wounded bad guy or any of his family try to sue the homeowner that same law won't allow them to bring a lawsuit against him. That's very good law IMHO, and we now have a similar law here in GA.
I think so. (Maybe I'd better check.) ;-)
Thanks for the link.
Sounds reasonable -- before you make any ammo buys.
