'Airplane!' Director Eyes Michael Moore - (new conservative comedy blasting Michael Moore)
politico.com ^ | July 23, 2008 | JEFFREY RESSNER

Posted on 07/23/2008 11:36:33 AM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

The comedy director who gave us such immortal movie lines as “Oh stewardess, I speak jive” and “Don’t call me Shirley” is now leveling his sights at documentary filmmaker Michael Moore.

David Zucker, the director and writer who helped create “Airplane!” and “The Naked Gun” franchise has called on Hollywood’s tiny but tightly knit Republican A-list crowd to help him make a broad yet unusually right-leaning political satire titled “An American Carol.”

The low-budget indie co-stars Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer with Oscar-winner Jon Voight, cinema icon Dennis Hopper, model-heiress Paris Hilton and frequent Zucker stooge Leslie Nielsen in minor roles. Release is planned sometime by year’s end; the director suggested Friday, Sept. 12, to coincide with the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Zucker and his associates have been keeping the film under fairly tight wraps for months. When hyping the usual casting updates to showbiz trades, those associated with the production would only describe the movie as “a spoof of ‘A Christmas Carol’ and contemporary American culture,” avoiding any mention of its political perspective.

Zucker had, however, mentioned the project to a handful of reporters and talk radio hosts, telling one columnist at the Wisconsin State Journal, “It outdoes any movie I have ever done in tasteless, offensive, un-PC humor.”

Yep. Dennis Hopper’s been a conservative for the past 20+ years. After he cleaned up from his substance abuse problems.

I think he was already a conservative by the time he made Colors about LA gang wars.

I think Kelsey plays the president in this movie “Swing vote” that is coming out soon. The uncharismatic Kevin Costner plays a guy whose one vote will decide the whole election. Hard to believe the movie won’t tilt to the left but I would hope with Kelsey in it the film will be balanced. Not that I plan to see it anyway.

Paris Hilton is on our side? That’s not good, unless she is willing to spend millions on a 527 perhaps.

I never was a Dennis Hopper fan til I found out he was a conservative. Robert Duvall is another.

"Dennis Hopper, a conservative?"

Not only that, he's a big golfing fan. He's a big supporter of George Bush. The funny thing is that his wife is still an uber liberal. Remember, he's a true rebel. Living in Hollywood and being a conservative is about as rebellious as it gets...

Note the "A" list cast. Given the miniscule budget, they have to be doing this for the pure joy of giving Mike Al-Moor (aka Lumpy Riefenstahl) the Airplane! treatment.

Oh yes James is another favorite of the right though he might not be much of a social conservative. Dennis Miller also.

Bruce Willis is a Republican though I don’t think he advertises it much lately. Drew Carey is another libertarian conservative type. Then there are the “GOP babes” whose pictures someone compiled on the web. Besides Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and the talking heads, that list included actresses like Janine Turner and Bo Derek.

The only movie worth seeing in the last three months is “Mongol”. As soon it gets nearby I’ll see it. Nothing from Hollywood sucks me in any more. No surprises anymore. I can predict most of the plot twists and many of the plots are re-dos. The actors are boring and don’t become the characters

Christian Bale was great in “Shaft” but I refuse to be bored by a Batman movie. I’m too old for that garbage

sounds like a must-see ONCE.

There, I fixed it...my husband wants to watch Airplane every time it comes on TV, LOL! Fortunately, I designed our house with a living room with a TV and what we refer to as the "ball room"...a 14 X 27 room where the guys hang out, play video games and watch sports that has 3 TVs...so we don't argue any more about what to watch.
