'As Goes Paris, So Goes Wheeling, West Virginia'

Many McCain fans are no doubt bracing for the waves of European adulation that are about to break over Barack Obama. With polls showing Obama with a 50+ percentage-point lead across the Old Continent [the French leading the Obamaphile way at 64-4%], the Dem candidate is assured of ecstatic crowds wherever he goes. Euro-Obamamania begins in Berlin today, with a speech by the candidate at the "Victory Column" in Tiergarten park.

But could all the adoration backfire? That emerging theme has found expression in two very different ways this morning. On the one hand, a scholarly exposition by Prof. Thomas Madden, writing at NRO, who draws parallels to the world of ancient Greco-Roman politics, and in more colloquial fashion by Joe Scarborough.

Here's how the Morning Joe host put it today at 6:34 AM EDT, in an exchange with Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist. Republican strategist Mike Murphy got in a good line at the very end.

Unless the Obamanation is running for Anti-Christ/13th Imam, there’s no reason for him to be taking this world tour. What is he trying to do exactly?

Campaigning around the globe for President of the U.S. is just odd.

I wonder what language his speech will be given in?

merci beaucoup.................

Obama in Israel this week ... "This, this, uh, this past week we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to, uh, call for divestment from Iran."

The only problem? The U.S. Senate Banking Committee isn't Obama's committee. He doesn't serve on it, nor does he serve on any of its subcommittees.

The question seems to be ... If elected POTUS would Obama-Lama-Ding-Dong even be aware that he was POTUS, or would he think he was still a Senator, from the once great state of Illinois, serving on his committee?

Mike Murphy nails it at the end ..

SCARBOROUGH: OK, yeah. As goes Paris, so goes Wheeling, West Virginia.

BRZEZINSKI: Alright, be quiet.

MIKE MURPHY: He could be the next Jerry Lewis if he plays his cards right.

Mika never disappoints, does she?

Joe seems schizophrenic sometimes. Not 15 minutes after this exchange he’s the one fawning over Barry.

“Europeans could love their candidate to death”>>>

That is a great line! Europeans have become so ungrateful for all America has done for them that I personally don't give a flip what they think.

There was another thread about Obama receiving campaign funding from overseas. He needs funds

While the French temporarily regained their senses when they elected Sarkozy, they previously elected Chirac and large numbers voted for near fascist, Le Pen. Their support of Obama should come as little surprise.

We came to Europe’s aid three times in the last century, and they reward us by cheering this most anti-American of American candidates. There are good reasons why most of us are former Europeans.

I think I’m like most Mericans. I have contempt for politicians who go fawning over the Eurotrash.
