JERRY BROWN'S WAR ON CALIFORNIA SUBURBS
National Center for Policy Analysis ^ | July 23, 2008

Posted on 07/24/2008 9:37:47 AM PDT by calcowgirl

Former Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown is waging war on California suburbs because of global warming, says Joel Kotkin, a presidential fellow in urban futures at Chapman University.

Brown is concerned about the alleged environmental damage caused by the suburbs. He wants to compel residents to move to city centers or to high-density developments clustered near mass transit lines:

• Brown has threatened to file suit against municipalities that shun high-density housing in favor of building new suburban single-family homes, on the grounds that they will pollute the environment.

• He is also backing controversial legislation -- Senate bill 375 -- moving through the state legislature that would restrict state highway funds to communities that refuse to adopt "smart growth" development plans.

The problem is, Californians do not want to leave the suburbs for the cities:

• For two generations, residents have been moving to the suburbs, attracted to the prospect of good schools, low crime rates and the chance to buy a home.

• A 2002 Public Policy Institute of California poll found that 80 percent of Californians prefer single-family homes over apartment living.

Ali Modarres, associate director of the Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Institute of Public Affairs at California State University Los Angeles, points out that there is little evidence behind the science used to justify the drive to resettling the cities -- and plenty of power behind the argument that suburbs are better for Mother Earth:

• Forcing developers to build near transit lines, a strategy favored by "smart-growth advocates," does not mean residents will actually take the train or bus; in fact, a survey by the Los Angeles Times found that only a small fraction of residents shunned their cars during rush hour.

• Several prominent scholars have found there is little evidence linking suburbanization to global warming, pointing out that density itself can produce increased auto congestion and pollution.

“When was the last time Jerry Brown made news being happy about anything?”

Bingo. Liberals simply are NOT happy people.

Mayor Moonbeam will NOT be forcing me to give up my private, mountain life. Never.

I don’t know. They were buildable lots at one time, but Aptos instituted very strict building laws about 30 years ago. And building permits are granted on a lottery basis and you have to put up a huge amount of money up front.

Give it ten years or so under Obama

If we have ten years of Obama, that means the shooting will have been going on for at least two years...

:O)

The increased costs for mandated green construction would will push up housing costs ...

Arnold Schwarzenegger, 07/17/2008:

"By adopting this first-in-the-nation statewide green building code, California is again leading the way to fight climate change and protect the environment. This is literally a groundbreaking move to ensure that when we break ground on all new buildings in the Golden State we are promoting green building and energy efficient new technologies. Cars and buildings are two of the leading users of energy - we're already addressing cars, and these new building standards will ensure that California remains at the forefront of reducing our carbon footprint and conserving valuable natural resources while also protecting our economy. We have already committed to making our state-owned buildings more green and energy efficient and this statewide code will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency and conserve water in all new buildings.

"With today's action, California continues to lead the nation and I commend the hard work of the Building Standards Commission to adopt the first-in-the-nation statewide green building standards."

This is all anyone needs to know about "Global Warming."

The primary evidence, the essential necessary evidence, that the greenhouse effect, and by extension CO2, is causing global warming doesn't exist. If the planet is warming this is proof positive that it isn't because of the greenhouse effect.

No Smoking Hot Spot (The Australian)

This is a short and easily understandable article showing the plain truth. The hinge pin that links global temperature to the greenhouse effect is missing. It is easily measurable and hundreds of probes have done so.

Written by the man who "DEVOTED six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian Greenhouse Office."

Before he was elected, there were articles saying that he would continue to live in (crime-ridden) downtown Oakland.

Jerry has a wonderful future planned for all of us in California. See, with a little bright paint we can all feel better about living in the bleak vertical concentration camps the socialists have in mind for us. Photobucket

I'm sure the 5 million-plus Republicans in the state appreciate your support in fighting liberalism. /s

“Why do we even post stories ABOUT California? The whole state is certified nuts.”

And what conservative state are you from?

The whole state......listen, friend, this country varies a lot and so does California. My county in California votes 68% GOP. How’s yours?

I haven’t read it yet, but heard on radio that Arnold wants to cut 100,000 state employees back to Minimum wage...the fed minimum of 6.? per hour not the California 8.00 an hour. If so, I think it’s great! The dems will never let that happen.

IMO, it’s a PR stunt that just adds to the media circus by riling up the union workers and others. He’s run out of cash to pay employees, so now is proposing “minimum wage” instead of just cutting back. FYI, he still has to pay them the full amount, retroactively, once the budget is passed so any pay reduction is purely temporary.

Pete Wilson had to issue IOUs when he couldn’t get the Republicans to go along with a tax increase and get the budget passed on time. This is a similar move. (Petey’s IOU solution was judged to be in violation of labor laws).

This is what made me so extremely upset with Schwartzenegger's Sierra-Nevada CONservancy (another box not blown up, but created by the liar) since it is a vast part of this agenda of "Moonbeam's!" This is all a part of "The Ahwahnee Principles" contrived at the beginning of the '90's at Ahwahnee Lodge at Yosimite by a bunch of Moonbeam's comradicals!!!

Gray Davis was one of his comradicals and even he was too embarrassed with the audacity of duplicating the huge CA Coastal Commission with another mega sized state agency controlling suburbs and causing "rural cleansing" in all property, public and private in the eastern 1/5th of CA, and vetoed the bill TWICE!!

Arnold has trumped a lot of individuals and groups that had won these two battles with Davis (and Moonbeam), only to finally lose the war by way of the SchwartzenKennedy Trojan Horse who hijacked the grassroots conservative Recall!!!
