New Haven ID program enters second year (CT)

New Haven (WTNH) -- The New Haven program that sparked protests and gained national attention is entering its second year. To date, about 6,000 people have signed up for the Elm City Residents Card program.

With a snap of the camera Luis Pagan is on his way to getting a New Haven city Resident card.

"I think it's good. The city is helping us ID ourselves, who we are," Pagan said.

Hundreds lined up last year when the Elm City Residents Card program was launched. The card was controversial from the beginning because it allows illegal immigrants to get a form of identification.

Pagan is a legal resident but says it's good that the city supports everyone.

"I think it's a good thing they can open a bank account, they have some type of legal identification and which helps them establish themselves in the community," Pagan said. "I think it's sad that a country that has so much, we have some individuals that don't want to share what we have."

Robin Carter is also a legal resident and supports the ID program.

"I think everyone deserves a chance. I don't have a problem with them. The way I see it, they're people just like I am," Carter said.

Carter is happy to have the card because of all the city services it offers including access to the library, city beaches, parking meters and more.

"I didn't know it but it helps with banking so it helps in many ways," Carter said.

To celebrate the one year anniversary, the first 100 people who applied for the card today received a $25 gift certificate to a local grocery store and a free loaf of bread.

If we’re going to be forced to allow “sanctuary cities” and the like, and if our government is not going to enforce the laws and secure the border, my wish is that all the illegal immigrants would gather in those cities that want to so kindly support them. Let all the areas which enforce the law, be allowed to make it tough on illegal immigrants and not allow them to suck up “benefits” and “entitlements”, so that they’ll all congregate in the areas which want to use taxpayer’s money to support them. Let them put their money-and lots of it-where their mouths are.
But being liberals. they’ll want to force everyone to support illegals. They’ll want to use other people’s money to fund their “sanctuaries” for illegals.

It’s a funny world in which liberals can take other people’s hard-earned money to break the law.

What do these liberals have against all the poor people of Bangladesh and Somalia and other poverty stricken nations of the world? Why don't they give all of them ID cards so they can work in New Haven? Why limit it to just the ones who were fortunate enough to live close enough to break our immigration laws in person?

Giving them this card prepares people to accept their status as legitimate, and paves the way for liberals to grant them a complete set of privileges: money, voting rights, working rights, medical care, victim status.

I might be inclined to argue but it really is hard to refute such intellectual brilliance.
