MONROE, Wash. A would-be robber armed with a gun was no match for a husband and wife and their baseball bat early Thursday morning.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says the 24-year-old Monroe man entered the home in the 21600 block of 164th Drive SE around 3:30 a.m. He apparently got in through an unlocked door.
The crook allegedly confronted the couple in their bedroom with a handgun. The couple fought back, beating the intruder on the head with a baseball bat.
The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious head injuries. Once released, he'll be booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
The couple has only minor injuries.
Even though the couple won in the end, sheriff's deputies say the incident is a reminder to lock all your doors and windows.
Harborview is a critical trauma horsepistol. He must have been hit for an in field blooper.
They got all of that one!!!!!
Must not have been swinging for the fences. Lightweights . . . .
Civil lawsuit coming.
“What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy?”
“BASEBALL!”
Pelosi and Reid will now be calling for congressional hearings to ban all baseball bats in the U.S.
“Civil lawsuit coming.”
Not when they have a gun in evidence.
Perfect game!
Bigtime - they’re going to end up paying him for life...
Right On!
SWING BATTER!
See! See! You don't need scary guns to protect yourself and your family! Now let's get back to banning them!
;-)
No self-respecting Seattle citizen would ever fight off a criminal; this happened thirty miles away, across the county line, and more rural where everyone is not a Seattle sissy/wimp.
I hope it was a 32-ounce Louisville Slugger model.
That’s a better average than the M’s have at the moment. Sign ‘em up.
The robber made the mistake of bringing a gun to a bat fight.
Correct. My wife was taken to a localhospital by ambulance, then airlifted to Harborview, where she passed.
If you’re in Seattle, and something happens and they say they’re taking you to Harborview, better have your Will written.
I mean it’s a good hospital and all, but this one is for serious chit!
Should read:
“Once released, the ACLU will take his case as he is suing the homeowners for aggravated assault.
Every damn state in the union need to have a Texas law that says criminals cannot sue victims for injuries they receive committing/attempting to commit a crime.
“Tell Merrill to swing away”
smarmy lawyer will still attempt to make a case. Hinges around how much force was needed to stop the threat, did that level get exceeded and then self-defense turned into a beating?
Trust me, some slimy, smarmy lawyer will argue this. You get enough imbeciles on a jury that watch Oprah and you’ll have a shot at it.
Which is why you never let the criminal live. “I feared for my life, and I did what was necessary to stop the threat.”
Oh, aye......
There are lawyers everywhere that will take something like this on.....
It’s getting tougher to find a jury that will convict in cases like this. The tide is turning against punks like this. I find it refreshing......
They should have had a gun. They could have been killed by this stupid tactic. Good for them but still, buy a gun, learn how to use it. Shoot a**hats that break into your home. This serves two purposes, it keeps you from being killed and saves the next victim of this criminal from having to deal with him.
Good on ‘em! Of course, now we will see a clamoring from the leftists to license baseball bats...
Was the bat registered with the State?
A few more hits and he wouldn’t have been around to sue them. We Texans try not to leave them around to complain. Enter our house and it’s curtains for the intruder.
Criminal prosecution, too, for premeditated beating of a home invader. After all, who (over 12 years old, anyway) keeps a baseball bat in their bedroom unless they intend to use it on someone?
(Is the < /sarc > tag really necessary?)
SEATTLE MARINERS needs the bats

“Which is why you never let the criminal live. I feared for my life, and I did what was necessary to stop the threat. “
EXACTLY!!
In some nanny states or in Englandislam the couple would have been the ones arrested.
Wood. Has to be wood. The decline of sandlot baseball in America is directly traceable to the introduction of the aluminum bat. It’s not the physics or the economics of the thing, it’s the sound. There is no sound so satisfying and invigorating as the “cr-rack” of a nicely-shaped piece of ash perfectly placed on the horsehide. The one that you can feel in your hands when you hear it from 2 blocks away, that makes you pump your fist in the air because you know it was RIGHT and PERFECT!! Aluminum bats do not “cr-rack”. They “tink.”. No one ever pumped their fist over a “tink.”.
I assume this is also the case when the horsehide spheroid is replaced by a criminal cranium. It is probably worth an extensive laboratory testing regimen, though. I’d volunteer to be on the David Ortiz end of things.
Preferably with the wood, though. Got to be wood.
Nothing is stupid if it works.
yes, it worked this time but against a foe armed with a gun, a foe who knows how to use it, the bat would be useless. I am maligning this couple for doing this, and give them kudos. However, if they had a firearm and faced a similar foe who knew what to do with his weapon, they would stand a better chance. We agree that this worked and I am happy it did but a shotgun is better than a bat.
Guns miss most of the time. Even at point blank range they miss. A one shot that’s a hit is not a take down. A bat with swinging room — a better bet in a close fight. The bat makes the shooter duck and miss or miss fire — jam for limping his wrist. Talking regular pistols.
I’ll bet they are shopping for one now. Crime victims don’t want to go through that again. I hope they get good security doors, his and her’s shotguns and his and her’s pistols.
They can keep the baseball bats for backup. LOL.
This story reminded me of the “Sports Science” segment in which they
tested the force on wired dummy heads when hit with either a hockey stick
or a wooden baseball bat.
(This is on Fox Sports cable channel)
The wooden baseball bat is the hands-down winner if you want the
perp to go down.
And even maybe stay down for good for a “dirt-nap”.
Awesome
Ban Bats!
“Civil lawsuit coming.”
Yep, they should have made sure he was dead.
Ooh! Never thought of that! Much as I would prefer wood personally, I hope for the crook’s sake it was aluminum.
“wood or aluminum?”
I was wondering ash or maple. Over 1/2 the bats used in the majors now are maple. Hickory is making a comeback too, that’s what Babe Ruth used to use.
Maple breaks different than ash. I saw a bat shatter in the last game on TV and it looked like the thing exploded.
These days when I go to the cages my "weapon" of choice is a 32.5" (with a -5 drop) aluminum TPX.... I pretend I'm Donnie Baseball (the original #23) hitting hot shots over the 2nd baseman's head :-)
#23 Plano (Texas) Yankees.
