Swedish clothing company Ellos has pulled two-piece bikinis designed for baby girls and apologized for the products after widespread protests.
The bikinis, which were designed for girls as young as 2 months old, were pulled from stores after children's and women's groups complained that the revealing swimwear contributed to the sexualization of the bodies of small children, Swedish news agency TT reported Thursday.
Ellos is a family company. We do not want anyone taking offense from our assortment, Ellos representative Per-Olf Gustafsson said. We have erred in this case and we will do our best to ensure that there is no repeat.
What’s wrong with that?
These people are crazy...
Somehow, I just don’t see anything even vaguely sexual there.
Am I abnormal?
“...revealing swimwear contributed to the sexualization of the bodies of small children..”
That does occur, but I don’t think this is by any means an example of that sick practice.
That swimsuit looks very much like the ones my girls used to wear at that age. It is a practical two piece swimsuit, by no means one of those extreme bikinis.
I thought maybe the offensive swimsuits were thongs with some kind of weird itty bitty top.
But that swim suit in the photo is cute.
It’s pretty cute.
These aren’t babies...they are just little girls and the suits are cute. My first thought was that it would be hard to hide a diaper in a thong. :-)
Like, *PING*, dudes.
I thought European kids ran around naked on the beach anyway.
Cute song !!!!
They’re just little bitty girls, all little girls wear suits like that. These people are getting way too carried away.
I remember as a child of 5, all of us kids in the neighborhood ran around in our underwear..outside! Nobody looked at us, nobody cared. Everybody was out on their lawns in chairs and swings...talking to each other...and yelling at the occasional teenager driving too fast down our street.
They were offended that they covered up the girl’s chest. /semi-sarc
In Europe, lots of young toddler girls don’t have tops to bathing suits. They have no idea of sex, they don’t care, they don’t need support. It was 1991 and I was over in Britain and got my pictures developed locally, and on the cover they have a family on the beach, the little girl had no top on.
There’s nothing to look at anyway. That’s what is so surprising, that they think this two piece is sexualizing things.
Actually what I’m thinking is if they’re thinking this way, they have their heads in the gutter themselves.
I wonder if it was a “certain minority segment” of the population that complained.....like burka wearers.
“...children’s and women’s groups....”
I’m a little surprised about the “children’s groups” because those are usually family-oriented groups with reasonable guidelines.
The ...ahem.... “women’s groups” on the other hand....
A real shame to see this company’s president spontaneously crumble and instantly admit guilt saying they don’t want to offend “anyone”.
Am I abnormal?
Nope, what you see is a little girl in a bathing suit. What people with evil minds see is a slanderous sexual photo!
we had bathing suits like that when I was little.
I have pics of me when I was little holding fish I had caught wearing jeans and no shirt. Never thought anything of it back then. I had nothing to show.
