Terrified workers at a mining compound in one of Russia's most isolated regions are refusing to go to work after a pack of giant bears attacked and ate two of their colleagues.
At least 30 of the hungry animals have been seen prowling close to the mines in northern Kamchatka in search of food, where the mangled remains of the two workers, both guards, were found last week.
The co-workers at the compound in the Olyotorsky district are trapped and frightened: the gruesome discovery has left them too scared to venture out. A team of snipers, with orders to shoot the bears, is now being dispatched to confront the invasion after government officials authorised an off-season hunt.

“...ate two Kamchatkan miners!”
Great, now I’m starving.
A “pack” of bears? I thought bears were pretty much loners? “Giant” bears? Aren’t most of them huge? lol
Bears kill Russians. Holy irony Batman!
Geez. Horrible. Don’t go into the woods without a large bore weapon.
Kamchatka is a remote place
A woman in Caliente CA was attacked this morning or yesterday by a bear while walking her dogs. She made it to her car and made it to some paramedics, leaving the dogs to distract the bear while she slipped away.
(Did Karl Rove forget and leave the seismic/weather machine in ‘Bear Mode’ last night? It’s that little switch down by the headlights...)
(Why the bear was walking her dogs, I’ll never know.../Groucho Marx mode off)
These were just displaced Polar Bears trying to find food because all the ice has melted at the North Pole. Don’t blame the bears, it is all due to global warming.
“Today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic...”
Seriously. That’s the first time the Bears have done damage to anybody’s guards since Ditka.
Ohh, golly gee!! I'm appaled. Did anyone check to see if the bears are "endangered?"
Almost spit my drink laughing at that one.

Kamchatka Brown Bears can grow to over ten feet tall and weigh in excess of fifteen hundred pounds. They make the black bears in my neck of the woods look tiny in comparison.

“Arent most of them huge?”
not like Arctodus

This sounds like something out of Solzhenitsyn’s “Gulag Archipelago”, and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that those Russian slave labor camps are still operating.
The article, for instance, speaks of “guards”; without indicating any possibility that any “miners” might be armed.
It wouldnt surprise me. It is sparsely populated and used by the military
King Vanity has a HUGE bear phobia.
Cant even have a picture in the house.
(we have them in the county but none in our exact area but he says how does anyone know for sure)
I just read him this article and he is like yeah SEE!
Yeah someone explained to me that once a Mama is preggers if she has two cubs the oldest gets the boot and is out on his own.
Maybe dim Russian bares are differnt, Yogi.
they used to be cute, you’d see them at trash cans in the Smokies, stuff like that. They seem a whole lot meaner now, I guess because there’s a lot less casual contact since the rangers cleaned up the trash, and the way they make the news is invariably tragic
“I attack Kamchatka from Irkutsk with three armies!”
I suggest a 12 ga slug
>>>Arctodus
>>>>>Like so much of the Pleistocene megafauna, the record of the short-faced bear stops at end of the last ice age around 10,000 years ago.
End of last ice age -—> Gore’s fault.
use these guys:http://www.bruddabear.com/photo/BearCavalry.jpg
You carry what you can.
The bigger, the better.
There coming down around population big time this year in out County too..
Usually dont start coming down to feed on the apples and berries untill September/October.
Lil down South from here they have been taking out window of houses and other property damage to get to food.
” Did anyone check to see if the bears are “endangered?” “
No checking needed since the snipers were dispatched, it’s now guarnteed!
Its a Bear thang yall wouldnt understand it.
What about the wolf packs? They are big dogs and can take down a bear.
Same here down south from us that town has a dump and in the last few years the land is being developed so they have begun going to older homes in the area where they use to shy away from.
Gal told me she saw a cub eating her Chickens feed scraps and the chicken flew the coop. : L )
Yeah, I’d say the caption is pretty much right on.

(link).
To own a gun in Russia you need to hold a hunter's license, and that is a trivial thing to get (involves mostly safety and rules.) Many people in Siberia own and use guns, and this thread clearly shows why. Siberia is a very large place.
I’d rather have a Garand.
Don’t you think it would be wise to be prepared to meet the bear? If there is a bear?
LOL. My first thought exactly when I read that. You should probably seek some type of help, lol!

That ain't no bear.
THIS IS A BEAR!

Ain't nothing goin' to stop him when he's hungry.
Not me.

Sorry, but one of my friends blew him up years ago with a cherry bomb. ;-)

PIUTE-CA, at approximately 10 a.m. , on Tuesday July 22, a local resident out walking her 2 dogs was attacked by a bear. Unfortunately one of the dogs was killed; the other was able to escape. The woman received severe lacerations to her head and face in the attack. However, she was able to walk back to her car and drive 3 to 4 miles to the local Kern county Fire Station, Station 78 in Piute.
The fire crew provided medical care to the woman for her injuries. A Medi-Vac helicopter was used to transport the victim to UCLA hospital in Los Angeles.
Kern County Sheriff Deputies and Animal Control Officers arrived on scene to try and identify the exact location of the attack.
Anyway, she tells us one spring that during the winter, a bear had come through her front door and began coming into the bedroom where she was under the covers at the time. She awoke with the noise of the bear and grabbed a bedside rifle and shot the creature almost point blank.
She said she tried to contact Fish and game or park rangers or who-ever to come and get the carcass, but after three days of no one coming out to her place, she took matters into her own hands and ended up with a bear rug.
I believed the story, she was an Annie Oakley type, but definetly not as homely. There was a guy who fancied himself a Mountain Man and took up with her, but only last a short while because four hours from the trailhead and then a two hour trip to the liqour store after that was too much to be that far from ciggies and booze...
She would tell us how she had to use pack mules to get anything to her cabin...what a gal, wonder what happened to her...
...... it will make it less painful when the bear takes that gun from you and shoves it up your backside!
How are they supposed to accomplish this feet? (pun intended)
SOMETIMES YOU EAT THE BEAR.
SOMETIMES THE BEAR EATS YOU
This is what sets the US Citizen apart from the world, at least THIS American!
I'll be danged if I would wait for some guberment teat sucker to tell me its OK to kill a danger to me or anyone near me!!!
I recently saw an article referencing marauding monkeys.... ya, right.
