Obama's $845 billion U.N. plan forwarded to U.S. Senate floor
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | July 25, 2008 | Bob Unruh

The U.S. Senate soon could be debating whether you, your spouse and each of your children – as well as your in-laws, parents, grandparents, neighbors and everyone else in America – each will be spending $2,500 or more to reduce poverty around the world.

The plan sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the office of president, is estimated to cost the United States some $845 billion over the coming few years in an effort to raise the standard of living around the globe.

S.2433 already has been approved in one form by the U.S. House of Representatives, and now has been placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar for pending debate.

WND previously has reported the proposal demands the president develop "and implement" a policy to "cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief" and other programs.

Cliff Kincaid at Accuracy in Media has published a critique asserting that while the Global Poverty Act sounds nice, the adoption could "result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States" and would make levels "of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations."

BTTT.

Not only is there no provision in the Constitution to do this, there really isn't one to do so here at home. Besides that, we have plenty of poor people here (not counting those here illegally and on the government teat).

Looked through my copy of the United States Constitution to find the place where the president is empowered to impose a tax on American citizens to stroke himself with a case of the warm fuzzies by feeding the entire planet; couldn’t find it.

They all agree on this spending, and dare anyone not pay taxes because it is not in the United States Constitution...

This sickens me. Our economy is in the toilet, the Dims won't let us drill to ease the burden on our own poor and suffering, and our national security is in jeopardy because there is no Northern or Southern wall - and he panders to the world?

I don't much care what the UN thinks of us because I think they are an evil, hypocritical, unnecessary and dangerous organization. And our citizens have done so much to help the poor and suffering around the globe that if others don't know that by now - shame on them. Really. Since I'm not a Socialist, I believe taking care of the poor (starting right here at home, btw) should be done my private groups and individuals - not the government spending our money in ways that don't benefit us and without our consent.

I DON’T want to raise the standard of living elsewhere in the world. This is America. We need to raise the standard of living HERE. The government needs to take LESS of our money and interfere less with our lives. Those who want to advance themselve should not be held back by the leeches of society and government.
Americans work hard for their money. It shouldn’t be given away by so-called leaders who want to impress the UN.

Obama's $845 billion U.N. plan forwarded to U.S. Senate floor
your in-laws, parents, grandparents, neighbors and everyone else in America –
each will be spending $2,500 or more to reduce poverty around the world.

That will only be enuf at the beginning. Eventually, as the spending approaches $40,000 per year per American,
Americans will be forced by the UN to give up their homes (for the illegal aliens continuing to take over America),
and in return, all native Americans will be sent to concentration camps run by the UN and Obama's "New American Civilian military police"
in their shiny robin-blue hats.

Anyone bother to actually read the legislation? It's like any other POS coming out of Congress these days, long on rhetoric and short on specifics. It doesn't look like it commits us to anything more than what President Bush has already done.

Billions to be allocated to raise the standard of living of a tiny number of kleptocrats and UN officials and probably Algore and, of course Hussein O’Bama.

Yes, I've read it. One thing that strikes me is that at NO time are the words “United Nations” used except at the end,

“Sec. 5. DEFENITIONS

(4) MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS- The term `Millennium Development Goals’ means the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).”

ALL other references to the UN have been stricken from the bill.

So what exactly are these Millennium Development Goals?
Aside from the writing off of all debt owed by developing nations, it proposes to halve the number of people (1 billion) that live on $1 or less/day and those (1.6 billion) that live on less than $2/day. (I'm sure we aren't going to eliminate them, so this is going to cost TRILLIONS by 2015...all controlled by the UN)
The MDG also charge the UN with nuclear disarmament, gun control, AIDS/HIV, tuberculosis control and compliance with Kyoto.(just to name a few) Don't believe me? Then read it for yourself.

http://209.85.215.104/search?q=cache:Vr_WfuAsBwQJ:www.un.org/millennium/declaration/ares552e.pdf+United+Nations+Millennium+Declaration,+General+Assembly+Resolution+55/2+(2000).&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

Everything in this will be above and beyond what Bush has already done.

Now think about this. Do you really want the UN this deep into the workings of this nation?

The Global Poverty Act of 2007 (S. 2433), which currently has 23 Senate cosponsors, would commit the United States to spending 0.7 percent of its gross national product (GNP) on foreign aid, over and above what we already spend. The bill references the United Nations’ Millennium Declaration (from 2000) which calls for countries to dramatically increase aid and sign onto many dangerous treaties, including the International Criminal Court, the Kyoto Protocol, CEDAW, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Three Reasons your Senators Should Oppose the Global Poverty Act:

It carries a price tag of $845 billion of American taxpayers’ money. The U.S. already spends $16.3 billion on foreign aid per year. The Obama bill calls for an additional $845 billion to be spent over 13 years. This amounts to a tax of over $2,000 per American taxpayer.
History tells us that exporting large amounts of money to third-world countries has little effect on eradicating world hunger and poverty. Foreign aid dollars very often end up lining the pockets of those developing nations’ corrupt dictators. One recent example of this was the infamous Oil-for-Food scandal, where the UN’s humanitarian aid program ended up with Saddam Hussein pocketing billions.
It is part of a much larger UN scheme. The Global Poverty Act is simply a first step in adopting the provisions outlined in the UN’s Millennium Development Goals , which includes additional assaults on American’s wallets in the form of “currency transfer taxes,” “fees for commercial use of the oceans,” and “taxes on the carbon content of fuels,” just to name a few.

I'm well aware of what you say. Although I've read elsewhere about the .7% of GNP, I couldn't find it in either S. 2433 or the MDG so I did not include it in my post. Not saying it isn't there, just that I couldn't find it. It's not so much that TRILLIONS of dollars will be poured into third world hell-holes, but that it will be given to the UN to distribute. This Act is a far reaching bill that must be stopped. The only problem is that NO ONE except for WND is talking about it. Those here at FR who claim that it is just “rhetoric” do themselves and America a disservice.

I believe this is treason. Our congress cares more about foreigners than it does US citizens. Our country is financially failing and Congress continues to spend like there is no tomorrow and send our money (borrowed no less) to governments foreign to our own.

Everyone needs to defend the US Constitution from: enemies foreign _and_ domestic.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Why do that. Let’s just lower the American standard of living instead. After all we’re responsible for all the shortcomings throughout the globe. /s

Taking the War on Poverty world wide because it worked so well here at home.

Is this what Obama meant when he said that funding the Surge and winning in Iraq was a waste of funds that could have been used for better purposes?

The following link is a good summary of the Global Poverty Act as well as the UN Milleneum Goal.

http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0708/0708unbarack.htm

People really need to understand how our rights are being slowly removed. It reminds me of the old adage “warm the water slowly, and the frog will swim till it dies. Throw it into hot water and it will jump out.”

We the people are being “warmed slowly” in the waters of Socialism! (my new tag line)
