Are reporters in the business of reporting facts or rumor? Andrea Mitchell, for one, has no problem sending along "scuttlebutt" that if true would be deeply damaging to John McCain.
Barack Obama's cancellation of plans to visit injured military members at bases in Germany has drawn considerable attention and criticism. On today's Morning Joe, Mitchell passed along a rumor that McCain used his Pentagon connections to sabotage the Obama visit.

Oh please.... like Obama wouldn’t have stated that as the reason from the beginning. He had to know this would look bad for him. Sounds to me like they are scrambling for an excuse now.

UPDATE: A very interesting email from a source I must protect suggests that Obama’s visit to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center had the green light until a campaign staffer raised a stink about going with Obama. (There are rules meant to ensure candidates do not use soldiers or military bases for campaign purposes, and they state that personal and committee staff may accompany a sitting senator on a visit but campaign staff may not.) I am told that when one of Obama’s campaign staff was told he or she would be denied access, the visit was canceled.

When you step in it, start slinging it.
Why would John McCain do that? Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic Negro, is perfectly able to sabotage himself, with no assistance whatsoever from McCain.
The problem lay with the ratio of white to black servicemen who were to be found at the military hospital in Landstuhl. It is roughly the same as the whole ethnic makeup of the frontline combatants.
There were simply too many whites being held at the Landstuhl facility. Not good for photo op purposes.

The notion that McCain interfered in this is simply ludicrous.
I heard that one of his political advises threw a hissy fit when told no advisers or reporters would be allowed to film, making sure it was not used for political reasons.

There is NOTHING, nothing that Obama can say, do, etc to get me to vote for him. I don’t care if McCain vomits at a town hall meeting with the man, any sane person will not vote for this guy.
He is not anything special in my mind. In fact, he’s less and I’m expecting that soon the lid is going come off this guy’s facade.
He’s done nothing in the Senate up till now, and is lack of experience shows.
Obama’s excuse for not visiting the troups was that it would be ‘inappropriate’.
Team McCain responded by chiding Obama for using that excuse.

If the rumor pans out and McCain was behind the Obama/Pentagon cancellation, and then Team McCain chides Obama, that will show McCain as petty and vindictive and manipulative.
It will be interesting to see how this story and the ‘rumor’ develops.

If McCain is behind it, he is going to lose a great deal of respect.
If McCain is NOT behind it, HE (not his staffers) needs to be out squelching this rumor THIS morning.
It’s all beyond absurd. Obama wanted to bring a CAMPAIGN staffer with him. That would turn it into a political “event”. There was no good reason why Obama couldn’t go alone with his secret service.
This is at least the 4th spin on this and I’m getting dizzy.
None whatever. I think we all know that Obama has no concern or care for our military men and women. Remember, he wants his own "civilian" corps, as well financed and as powerful as the military. Isn't that the oddest thing you ever heard?

I noticed that with one of his military appearances. It was obviously orchestrated to be a black soldier only photo op.
It is interesting to see the white reporters fawning for Obama’s racism.

Listening to Mitchell “choke” on getting this bit of BS out was illuminating. She clearly (to me) was aware of the total fabrication of the point she was making and it took her till the very end to mention the words,
Republican”, “operatives” and other buzz words after rambling in that direction for some long minutes.
In the end she felt the need, due to her obvious weak position on the veracity of her claim, to call it what it really is, paranoia and scuttlebutt.
Desperation is beginning to set in among the media elites.

Is it just my current caffeine deficit, or did Andrea’s expression change markedly when she switched to the rumor? Like she was thinking “I know it’s completely unethical to report this baseless rumor, but after all I’m just a Beltway ho and my candidate Barry needs a little help on this trip.”

My main problem in watching this stuff is a bit of acid reflux, but I get by with a daily Prilosec! Meanwhile, my tagline says it all.
Exactly. One of the most bizarre aspects of the coverage of Obama is that I have yet to hear of any reporter asking Obama directly about his civilian defense corps or what future combat systems he wants scrapped...etc..etc.
Where are the recent poll numbers?
My sense is that the more America gets to know Obama, the more they reject his candidacy.
I was speaking with an elderly Hard-Line democrat here in Ohio the other day. Her response about Obama was “NO WAY!” She said he had no experience.
