DHP Review: Towelhead
Posted by Dirty Harry on Thursday, July 24th, 2008
During the Q&A, after a sneak preview of Towelhead, writer/director Alan Ball said of child rape, Society wants us to believe thats a soul destroying event, I dont believe that. The context of such an incendiary statement is important and can be found in his film, the story of a thirteen year old Arab girl, Jasira, (Summer Bishil) whos raped by her Army Reservist next door neighbor (Aaron Eckhart), molested by her mothers boyfriend, and sexually manipulated by Thomas (Eugene Bradley), a young man she goes to school with. When its all over, not only is her soul intact but she suffers no emotional or psychological damage whatsoever. To quote Ball, the experience makes her stronger. Shes empowered sexually (at 13) and the film ends on whats meant to be a triumphant note when she decides on a relationship with Thomas.

Alan Ball wrote ‘American Beauty’ and a bunch of episodes of ‘Queer As Folk’
jeez, i really likED aaron eckhart.
Yeesh.
The koran animals and this idiot deserve each other
Another one I'll never see.
Mindlss rape and sex, a young girl. Sounds like the movie “Candy” from the 60’s. All it would need is a sound track from Steppenwolf. Some things never change.

Thanks,
I’m sure the reviews and the academy awards that will nominate it for best picture will say its, “dark, thought provoking, and has nuance”.
And then it will proceed to bomb at the box office and hollyweird will claim its all because of the vast right-wing conspiracy.
Alan Ball cant seem to make a movie w/o insulting the military.
How disgusting.
And Claim that this crap is protected by the Bill of Rights
Terry Southern, RIP.
I was reading the description and thought “sounds like American Beauty.” He always has to denigrate the military.
Roman Polanski will love it.
Sounds like it’s made to order for pedophiles.

I thought there was a Towelie ban?
Here, we have a borderline-porn flick with a storyline attached to it, involving:
- Politically-correct victim/heroine
- Casting of patriotic persons as “evil” through them performing acts of sexual violence/manipulation
- Promotion of liberals (the hippy neighbors) as “the good guys”
- Promotion of “sex = EMPOWERMENT” without even glancing at its consequences
- Copious amounts of gratuitous sexual content via an age-inappropriate channel
It’s the perfect “edgy” lib film, produced by libs and one that’ll be secretly enjoyed by the NAMBLA sect. It’s little wonder it won’t be but a pepper speck on the box office charts. Karma would be yet another blockbuster action flick knocking this disingenuous bit of pr0n into insignificance.

The reality isn’t sexual empowerment, but the use of sex as a means of reestablishing a sense of control over one’s own body, with drug abuse added in as self-medication to numb down the emotional pain of it all.
In the real world, not only would Jasira be dealing with the “nonexistent” repercussions of such abuse, but she’ll also be haunted by the very real prospect of her being killed by the male members of her family if they happen to be relatively devout Muslims, since she has stained her family’s “honor” by being sexually abused by infidels.
